If I can get a disc drive I’ll probably get the pro. If not, well, I’ve just got too many physical games I’d lose to bother. I’ve still got a PS4 pro (and lots of other consoles) and it just wouldn’t be feasible to hold on to a base PS5 in addition to the pro

Pro versions of consoles aren't a scam per say, but I rarely find they're worth it. My last upgraded console I bought was the New Nintendo 3DS XL (not the best upgrade for sure, but I just gave my old 3DS XL to my sister). Frankly to me once the games just don't run well on the system at a point (looking at you Switch currently), I just look forward to the next iteration now and don't bother with incremental upgrades. I used my OG PS4 until the PS5 was out too and this happened there too (Ghosts of Tshushima ran like poop at times on that version of the PS4). What I hope is that developers keep using the PS5 as a base and just make things a bit smoother for the pro users. I actually feel that there is some inefficiencies right now for the OG PS5 users and some games are just not running well even in performance mode (why did the Visions of Mana demo chug and slow down at times and also made my PS5 sound like a convention oven with how hard the fans were going). I wont touch the PS5 pro with a ten foot pole unless it goes super cheap, and it likely wont till the very end of the console's life span. Just my humble opinion of course and PS5 Pro is still ugly as sin as the OG one.

Is there a reason to hold onto a PlayStation 4 if you have a PlayStation 5?

Some games don't work well on the PS5 that are PS4 games, but the list is pretty minimal now. Only one I think is still broken that I love is The Warriors PS2 to PS4 playable game.

Sucks about the Warriors game still being broken. Sleeping Dogs for PS4 is very playable but the game will have random crashes. The system will close your game and say there was some error. It doesn't freeze your system. I was able to beat the game on PS5.

Not for everyone, but there are multiple reasons for me. First reason is I have the ps4 hooked up in my bedroom while the PS5 is in the living room. Plus as some other comments mentioned, most but not all PS4 games work on PS5. I’ve got my PSVR1 hooked up to the PS4 as well and at least one of the games that doesn’t work is for PSVR

Oh man.. I ran into that one recently unexpectedly hahah. Bought it in a sale and was like what the hell is going on here :ROFLMAO: some pretty gnarly visual glitches. Luckily I still have my PS4 Pro so wound up restarting it on there and all was well.

Did the PS5 ever get a functional Internet browser? That's a huge reason why I still haven't upgraded ( I also have the Spiderman Red PS4 Pro). I mainly use my pro as a streaming device more than a console.

It sure didn’t.

Also, I’m jealous of your Spiderman pro. I almost, but didn’t, get one. If I had that would have definitely been another of my reasons to keep a PS4 around. I love it so much even though red is one of my least favorite colors

Not officially. There's a hidden way to use it that's pretty easy, but why do you want a web browser on a console? All the streaming services are available as apps except Hi-dive, which competes with Crunchyroll (that's owned by Sony). The browser is mainly used for reading update information for games.

Been playing my first gen ps3 a lot lately and the sound keeps cutting out. It cuts out for maybe 3-5 seconds every 30-60 seconds. Thought I fixed it by switching hdmi cables, but I only got about a week of smooth sailing before it started happening again. The internet says it’s a common problem, but the only real suggestions I saw were to change cables or that the disc/drive could be bad. I don’t think it’s that since it’s happening on digital games too.

Thoughts, suggestions?

My bad. I should of been more specific. I meant I use it to stream sports, and watch anime/animated shows. Basically I use it to go on websites I wouldn't dare go on my laptop to use. I'm aware of the PS5 having an Internet browser by doing some workaround but apparently it's super basic and nowhere near as good as the PS4.

I’m sure consoles are omitting browsers as they present an attack vector.

Attack Vector? Please do elaborate. I always clear my cookies and data and history immediately after going on some website to watch movies (totally legally ofcourse). I always get scared because of all the pop ups I have to close that somehow my PSN account is going to get hacked, but *knock on wood* it hasn't.

Can’t speak for brian, but I imagine he means to find weaknesses in the console’s security, which would let the end-user modify the firmware—ie, hacking the console.

Browsers present a security risk for end users but more importantly for console creators, a potential avenue for hacking.

My first thought is cables. Second thought a physically damaged output (on your PS3) or input (on your TV). Third thought is you're potentially using audio output format that isn't supposed to by the TV. Fourth thought is TV speaker might be damaged or maybe have a loose connection.

Maybe it’s me, but if you aren’t willing to go to those websites on your laptop, I wouldn’t be wanting to access them from my PS4/5.

I would get a Nvidia Shield and sideload whatever you want.

I know I'll be sent to the gallows for saying this here, but as someone who's main gaming platforms for the this gen and last few gens were PS1, GC, PS3, PS4 and PS5... this game would be an insane success on the Switch.
I think it might have way more competition and then ultimately forgotten on the Switch.

What makes it so unique is that that the "Big Boy" consoles haven't had a character action platformer in ages!

Also we know the Astrobot developers should take full advantage of the PS5 controller and the graphics look really fancy. I will be passing on the game (it's too loaded for release dates right now), but I will get the game down the line.

The NS has a huge install base (I think it's nearly at the PS2's levels or have expected to be soon) and I think platformers do well on the NS, not to mention there's many recognizable characters on this vs most non-Nintendo games on the NS. I'd say the bigger hurdle is prob Nintendo console owners basically being Nintendo game loyalists.

Whatever the case, I'm excited for the game and to see how it uses the DualSense.

Sure. There are a couple PS4 games that won't play on PS5.

PSVR1 isn't natively compatible with PS5. You need an adapter that Sony is no longer providing for free to US owners, and while some PSVR1 games have gotten updates to PSVR2 (in the same way the ps5 has free digital upgrades for some ps4 titles), the VR2 is not backwards compatible.

If you have consoles in multiple rooms, you can have access to your digital PS4 library wherever in your home you game, without having to shell out for a Portal.

Lots of reasons. Better question: are any of those reasons relevant to *you*?

I cancelled my Astro controller as well. Not special enough when I paid $50 for my other Dualsense controllers. Also slightly concerned about white thumb sticks holding up.

They are probably going to be on sale for the holiday if they are still around. I am keeping my for my niece since she really enjoyed Astro's Playroom.

I'm not much of a controller guy mostly preferring stock black or white controllers but for what it's worth my Starlight Blue dualsense controller looks absolutely stunning in hand!
