It's mind blowing to me that you played 198 games... but at the same time, what counts as "playing"? Like firing it up to the start screen or actually playing it for like X hours?

Looking again at my summary, it's kind of odd- says I played 29 games but my entire summary is on PS5 which only shows 26 games played. I'm curious why there's a discrepancy... I know I didn't fire up my PS4 at all in 2024 but I did fire my PS3 a few times due to needing to fix the disc drive.
I play a bunch of new releases and play a bit of most of the PS1/PS2/PSP releases that come out on PS+ Premium along with a number of older games I've had, so it's pretty easy to do that. Also had about 95 games played for the Xbox recap, which is mostly Game Pass stuff. I don't beat all of them because I don't have to, but it counts anything you've started.

I do appreciate your reviews!

I'd say for PS all stars or similar programs, 'playing' a game should have a minimum timeframe. Or beating a story mode. Right now, literally going to a title screen counts as playing.

Microsoft does that for MS Rewards, which is why Microsoft Solitaire Collection is my most-played Xbox game of 2024 because it's easy to launch and let sit for the 15 minutes or so it requires to count for most days. I do play some of it most of the time, but it's just more time wasting for something of no real value anyway. My 2nd most-played game was the Xbox game I launch most days to get the same points for a console game.

Excellent! Okami at $5 is my “buy it to not beat it again” price. Now if only Ni No Kuni would drop sub $10…

Fantasian Neo Dimension demo is out now:

I played a little bit of the demo, just wish games modernize with quality of life. Speed settings like gatchas has, no random battles
I'm not sure what point the demo is at, but in the full game you eventually get a device where you can turn off random battles. There's a meter that builds up and you eventually have to fight the monsters anyway (all at once), but it's much faster than going into random battles individually. So it does do something to bypass random battles in a way.

That's nice to hear, random battle are the worse some times I just wanna get to point A to point B and be able to choose my fights.

Yeah I don't get why a game lacks a regular toggle button for encounters if that's been possible since the ps1 gen in ff8 and also ff10-2.

Those weren't in the original games. You must have played the remasters.

I don’t remember X-2’s random encounter system very well, but he’s probably thinking of the GF abilities Enc-Half and Enc-None in FFVIII, which respectively halve and kill the random encounter rate. You can get them through Diablos, which you get fairly early on, but they do require a lot of AP to unlock.

Yeah it was like souffir said. Ff8 was via summon skill from diablo. 10-2 via accessory you equip one to increase encounters the other turns them off. Not toggle via a settings menu specifically But basically encounter options all the same. I should have been more specific.

Here's my PS wrap-up. Rebirth is amazing.

I own rebirth and want to play it based on the reviews and of couse nostalgia growing up with the originals. I'm just afraid to play it on a plain PS5 and 'ruin my experience' as I plan to get a Pro in the near future. I'm sick of having to choose framerate or graphics.

I've played too many games in the past without QoL updates or patches, which is why I have a rule now of not playing any new game within 6 months of launch.

Agreed on Rebirth. As much as I hated some of the things in the latter chapters, I think back to the game and just have too many good memories.

Curious though, how did you spend 65 hrs in Astro Bot...? I got 100% (before all the added content) in 16 hours.
Maybe a bunch of his friends and family played it too?

My niece has been playing it. She's been playing her favorite levels over and over.

Rebirth is one of those games im glad I stuck with through to the end. Still think it had way too much fluff in it but looking back at it I agree the highs of the game were really high. I just also thought it's lows were really low.

Like I said glad I played through the whole thing and excited to see where the next in the trilogy goes and how they actually end / change it from the og. But rebirth didn't leave me wanting to replay it like Remake did

I couldn't see going through and playing either one a second time...too long to complete. I enjoyed both of them.

Kind of worried about the final chapter. I mean the orignal was a classic for many reasons, but killing off Aerith? You can not take that back. Kind of like when Joker killed Jason Todd (well the people did, but I digress). That was such a huge thing.....and yes (SPOLIER) think its dumb they brough him back.

Hope Aerith stays dead and not a happily ever after with Zack and Cloud and Tifa and Aerith starring in FF 18: Simville

The VGAs were cool. But in all fairness FF7 Rebirth was completely shafted. That was a monumental achievement in gaming, which greatly exceeded the quality of an already HQ previous FF7 remake entry, and deserved much more recognition.

I also remember reading a couple complaints on here over Metaphor's somewhat rushed art style, or dumbed down graphical detail, so it was somewhat surprising to see that win Best Art Direction. Which is both good and bad: someone else might have deserved to win, but it's also good to see that BotW level of art, cel shading or unique shadow painting with AA dev can win over hearts. i.e. the art wasn't great but the direction was very well implemented.

But the super high quality of Rebirth deserved far more accolade. I feel bad for SquareEnix and this sends the wrong message for future game development.

Ah shit... I have a copy I had been meaning to sell. Welp, them's the breaks...
Yeah, sitting on games is super-risky these days. I just discovered the Outlast collection for Switch from LRG is selling for $300-400. I got it up on EBay within a couple hours of finding out. I’m not trying to scalp or even buying just to scalp but if there’s a game still sitting on my shelf sealed, there’s a reason it’s still sealed, it obviously didn’t end up being a high priority for me to play.

Just this week a reprint of The Messenger for Switch was announced. Previously the only copies available were selling for $200-300 and now there’s a sub-$30 version available that has even more on the cartridge. Random reprint announcements are brutal to resellers now, they come from nowhere.

Didn't know about Messenger reprint, might pick it up when if it goes on sale.

Wish we'd get more reprints. So if it wasn't for astrobot, wu kong would've been goty? I like wu kong so far its just an 8 for me so far (chapter 3) astrobot was chill and only played a few hrs so far

Nah, I think Metaphor Refantazio would have probably won. I think the only GoTY awards Wukong has/will win are those by popular vote, which it has the upper hand in with the huge Chinese gaming population.

This is the same Outlast game series that has the Outlast Trinity three game collection on Xbox and PS4 for $30-40? Get one less game on the less powerful system for 10x the price. What is wrong with people.
