The VGAs were cool. But in all fairness FF7 Rebirth was completely shafted. That was a monumental achievement in gaming, which greatly exceeded the quality of an already HQ previous FF7 remake entry, and deserved much more recognition.

I think they'll be rewarded if they stick the landing. Think Return of the King.

I also remember reading a couple complaints on here over Metaphor's somewhat rushed art style, or dumbed down graphical detail, so it was somewhat surprising to see that win Best Art Direction. Which is both good and bad: someone else might have deserved to win, but it's also good to see that BotW level of art, cel shading or unique shadow painting with AA dev can win over hearts. i.e. the art wasn't great but the direction was very well implemented.

But the super high quality of Rebirth deserved far more accolade. I feel bad for SquareEnix and this sends the wrong message for future game development.

Just curious, have you played Metaphor?

I beat Rebirth and put 100 hours into it, but I only played the demo for Metaphor so I can't judge but I'd be curious to know how those who've beaten both felt on the Rebirth vs Metaphor categories. Rebirth was just so good, I was shocked to see it win so many categories when, I feel like I've heard just as much mixed feedback about Metaphor as I did about Rebirth.

With all that said, your last sentence rings very true- between SE complaining about the sales and not taking any major awards home, they've gotta be feeling dejected right now. Argue about the changes in the OG story and the filler all you want, but the Rebirth was simply put, one of the most well made games I've ever played.

I have played both and near the end of Metaphor. Both have set stories, but I feel that there is better character building in Metaphor, the stories you go along with your companions on. It is (to me) a better version of Persona 5. Unlocking different classes is not as convulted. You can really create the party how you want.

My biggest complaint about persona 5 was that I never had enough MP to cast spells in the larger dungeons...Metaphor has a work around, kind of (basically have the main character be a mage archetype and run around killing things on the map...get powerful enough and you do not hav to go through the whole fight).

The story (Metaphor) is heavy handed politically (especially from U.S. perspective) so that might turn off a few people. More surprises with Metaphor, but then again I played the original FF7 and not one of those people that recalls everything from a 27 year old game.

Enjoyed both, but with Rebirth, the longer I played the more I was like..ok are we killing Aerith now? How about now? Oh wait, not yet? Now? Was slightly exhausting. I also do not care for being utterly confused at the end of an 100 hour game like I was with Rebirth (and no sense reading about it because I will have forgotten everything by the time part 3 comes out)...course I have not completed Metaphor and Persona 5 really went off the rails in the last 30 minutes (I can not stnad the ending and my son (21) is like come on dad it was epic...damn kids)

Also felt like Metaphor battles are more tactical whereas in Rebirth I kind of simply strong armed my way through them.

PSN Holiday Sale is now live! Psdeals reports 5154 new discounts today, including dlc.

First thing I checked on was the Charlie Brown Christmas table for Pinball FX... still has never been on sale... even for the holidays. :(

I was the most vocal person on here when the demo dropped, and the game released. Metaphor was excellent, an easy 9.5/10. Probably my favorite game this year. But Rebrith was top notch too, with much higher production values and technical achievements.

It was an incredible year. 2024 was the best year for RPGs I can ever remember, and the best year since 2017 releases. I haven't even gotten to Unicorn Overlord yet.

Anyone else having trouble logging in to Sony websites (PS direct, PS, etc.)? Says can't reach server.

EDIT* nevermind, works now.

Still there 10 minutes later and no lines. Prolly not that limited.
It's kind of a tough sell almost a year after launch. I think it's also more popular on PC at this point than Playstation. With the new drop of content I'm tempted to get back in, but not interested in the controller at all. And I've sunk ~150 hours into Helldivers 2.

Target has circle deal: $15 Target gift card when spending $100 on select PlayStation Gift cards. Red card works with it too.

If you have Target Circle check your offers, I had a Circle Bonus for $15 off $80 too.

Are there any "hacks" with PS stars? I am 400 coins shy of the 1250 needed to get a $5 gift card. Most of the campaigns for coins involved buying games but they all seem to be at least $30. I did find one for $10 but it doesn't get me close to the 400 I need. I know, I know, it's only $5 and spending money to get $5 makes no sense but I was curious if there were some hacks to get that much for spending little. I know there is one play a multiplayer game which an option is NBA 2K25 and there is 2 hour trial. Would that count? It only gives 50 coins though. Also, is there some kind of way to filter the campaigns? I can't figure it out if there is. Would be nice just to only see the ones that gives coins. We only have 11 days left before PS stars goes away correct? My 878 coins I currently have get deleted?? Or is that separate from the Sony points?

Did you do this deal and used both promos? I tried it online and only the $15 off $100 would apply.

Marsupilami won't let me buy it because it's the ps5 edition and I already own the ps4 version. Wild.

Palworld @ $22.49, can't recommend it enough. I've been playing this with my wife and son and it's a lot of fun. Take the gameplay loop of multiplayer Minecraft (the base-building + survival aspects, not the lego art) and add Pokemon and woo it's Palworld.

playstation rewards and playstation stars are 2 different things.

The Forspoken DLC In Tanta We Trust is on sale so I'll be picking it up since I'm playing through the game right now.

Helldivers 2 needs a much bigger discount than just 20% off I feel. Also need a really good sale on Stellar Blade.

I just ordered a $100 PSN card. During checkout, it had me paying $95.75 with my red card but my email shows that it automatically applied the $15 gift card so I was charged $80.75. Very cool and almost as good as Costco's 20% off deal last year and better than it's 15% off deal this year.
Image needs to be larger
LOL! I had no idea it would be so large(that's what she said).

Target charges for the giftcard separately, so you should have a charge for $80.75 and a separate charge for $15.

I own both of these. Still afraid of playing Rebirth. I don’t understand how it’s critically acclaimed yet I also hear it’s a horrible experience to play on PS5 and unplayable on certain graphical settings. Unless I’m mistaking it for something else.

As far as Metaphor. Only heard good things. One day I’ll play it… just like persona 5. Just kidding. I own three versions of P5 and never once played that either.

I remember the Rebirth demo, when it came out, didn't run well but they patched that. I didn't start the actual game until like May (~3 months after release) and I thought it looked amazing. But I will say, I kept going back and forth between graphics vs performance modes since I couldn't decide between the (noticeably better) 4K graphics or the smoother fps.

There's a few new trials for Premium members: a 10-hour trial for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and a 2-hour trial for Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Party Dash. If a weeb weekend doesn't appeal to you, there's a 2-hour trial for an Alaskan Truck Driving sim.

I keep forgetting to buy the games I want to give as gifts when they're on sale and so they're all full price now.

I'm a Stupid Ass Gamer.

November to early December is usually the best time to get the holiday sales. Sadge you'll have to pay more, but there is some lesser sales for things around as well.

Or you saw the "sale" prices and subconsciously decided they weren't worth it. Seriously, this years deals were just ass.

Get your price matches kids on the Pro. I did this morning from Best Buy:

Nice, but needs at least $100 off before I even think about it, to make up for the disc drive cost. Close to $200 off is probably my buy price, with some kind of stacking or gift card discount, I do expect that within a year somewhere. The PS4 pro dropped pretty fast, and I think they allowed plenty of room for discount in this one’s starting price.

Agreed. $600 or bust, since the MSRP of the PS5 is basically $400 ish right now. My dealbreaker though is a new limited bundle. I'm done buying plain consoles.

All three are also on PS premium and maybe even extra. Not sure as I just have premium and all three are there.

I let my PS+ go dark for the first time since PS3 days when they raised the prices. I have two years left on Xbox Ultimate for my live gaming needs along with the NSO Expansion on the Nintendo side for Splatoon 3 (Tetris 99 / F-Zero 99) along with the classic Nintendo tiles.

I miss out on Helldivers 2 though.

I had 3 years of Gamepass and I used it twice. Cancelled it, sold my Xbox and now only play on PS5. Now that Xbox is going multiplat, there is zero reason to own one IMO.

Did the exact same thing. Got game pass when the conversion rate was super good at the start or whatever it was. Stacked up 3 years and barely used it. Sent the Xbox packing and primarily use the PS5 now with switch for its exclusives and PC occasionally for cheap games or if there's an Xbox exclusive, PC game pass is easy to get cheap for 1 months.

My problems with Sony this year would be that they are continuing to not make 1st party games for PSVR2 like The Last of US, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank etc and that they haven't remade awesome video game series like Killzone or Resistance for PS5. Here's hoping they do at least one of those things next year.
Feel free to add all the ways Sony has disappointed you over the past year.

~400m PS systems sold. Celebrates 30th anniversary by only making 12.3k Pro 30th edition consoles given how well the 20th anniversary went with the same 12.3k units.

$700 for Pro.

It feels like Sony is getting to that post PS2, pre-PS3 release levels of hubris right now...

Seriously that little? The PS1, PS2, and PSP alone account for like 320 million+.

I didn't bother looking up actual #s and honestly didn't even think about the portables but yeah, it's prob much higher given there was a 500m version of the PS4 (for which Sony made 50k units I think).
