Retro Fighter's spotty quality control aside, unless the d-pad is really good for games like fighters (and going by the render, it doesn't look great), I don't know what the advantage of getting this over a Brook adapter to use a DualShock 4 or DualSense. I use a DualShock 4 with my PS2 via the Brook adapter and feels perfect for it.
I've had a good experience with my DC and N64 controllers from them, especially for the price. I don't know anything about a Brook adapter, but these will allow for better compatibility with PS1/PS2/PS3 games that use pressure sensitive buttons for mechanics and things like that. It depends on what you want out of it.

Does anyone know why it takes so long to view which games are on your storage both internal and external? I went to free up some storage to download Prince of Persia and it took almost 35 seconds to show the games. Took even longer to see the games on my extra 2TB. My Series X shows me the games almost instantly. Why does it take so long with the PS5?

Do you think it would be a good starting point for someone who hasn't played a monster hunter game before? Somehow that series has largely escaped me.

Definitely. I started playing the series with World and I think Wilds is even more streamlined than that. I know some people see that as a negative, but for me I don't think making a good build should be rocket science. If you like the combat then you'll have a good time. This is also the best time to get into it so you can finish the story, unlock what you want and make some good builds before the expansions eventually drop.

Does the MH series come out with ‘complete editions’ and 15 different versions historically?

I really got into World and even Rise to some extent. What are your thoughts on all the people saying that Wilds is too easy? I mean I know that the endgame is tougher, but I got carted in Worlds plenty of times. I don't really want to breeze through the game. I ran into some of that in Rise.

It's designed to be more mainstream friendly, compared to older titles.

The last MH game World was released again with Ice Borne. Very likely Capcom will release it again with more dlc, since the game is quite successful selling 8 million in a week iirc.

I don't think there were that many editions. I remember a deluxe edition and then one that included the Iceborne expansion. I wouldn't recommend waiting for everything to release before jumping in though unless you want to feel overwhelmed. Better to complete the base game and have the builds you want before the expansions drop.

The story is easy, but I've definitely failed some of the endgame fights and I've played with people who have died as well.

Rise and World had deluxe editions at launch (essentially just extremely minor bonus DLC, primarily cosmetic), as well as a major expansion each which you could buy in a package with the base game (and the expansions also had deluxe editions that were also just extremely minor, mostly cosmetic bonus DLC). All of these were also sold separately, though of course the cheapest way to get all of it would have been to wait for the expansion to release and get the package.

There’s also assorted cosmetic DLC and stuff like chat stickers for both games. Really the only thing most people might actually feel the need to buy, and that caused some controversy, are the character edit vouchers that let you go back and change your character from the ground up. You can change stuff like hair and makeup at any time, but if you want to change anything more significant, you either have to use a voucher or create a new save file. This is something Capcom’s been doing for a while (see: Dragon’s Dogma from 2011), and it seems like Wilds is taking the same approach.

Weren't TRs IV-VI generally considered "bad" TR games (and I think III also fell into that category)? Maybe not Superman 64 bad, but like... Mass Effect Andromeda "bad". Surprised this is rated 4.5 on PS Store.
I recall Angel of Darkness getting slammed hard when it came out originally. I enjoyed all the games and would rather talk about "new" Tomb Raider than no Tomb Riader (same stance I have on Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect). I think when the 1st or 2nd game in series releases people ar elike oh wow anazing and then after that it get's slammed for being "repetitive"..

Look at Borderlands 1...Media was excited, then BL changed art and it got slammed. Released and everyone was bloen away. BL2 came out and expectations exceeded. And now everyone is tired of the format and being "samey". Granted there were some missteps with the pre-sequel and the story in 3 was forgettable, but at least the game was entertaining.....Might be a bad exampke because no villian can top Jack🙃

I play games to be entertained and some series I will continue to support. It's kind of like watching Ted Lasso or Schitt's Creek. I want to be entertained and I know what to expect. Same with Friends or Seinfeld (although not fans of those shows, just using as an example.) None of them changed their format every episode (or even over seasons, personally I was more of a Cheers and then later Will & Grace). I don't need some grand gesture or major innovation every outing.

Having played all three now, I dropped Wilds after two weeks because it was definitely way easier than before. I don't even claim to be an amazing hunter but I can count on one hand the number of failed hunts I was on, including into the endgame 5* tempered monsters. Stark contrast to previous entries that would fail because we couldn't carry players that sucked. Doesn't make the game bad though, had an absolute blast with it but they fail to create systems that incentivize helping other players via SOS or participation.

Some level of currency for customization would go a long way towards wanting to help hunters other than just for fun. Game needs more goals to achieve if the difficulty is going to be this low.

The Last of Us Part II's No Return mode is getting new characters and maps alongside the PC version's launch:

Additionally, coming at launch for The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC will be a host of new content for our fan-favorite No Return mode. Two new characters are being introduced for the mode – The Last of Us Part I’s Bill and Marlene. Like with each No Return combatant, these characters offer their own unique playstyles, and should offer both new and returning fans an exciting new opportunity to test their mettle. Bill is a “Smuggler” playstyle who can access a custom pump shotgun from dead drops, and receives double rewards from drops as well. He’s stronger against melee attacks but can’t dodge. Marlene, meanwhile, features a “Risk Taker” playstyle that includes a Custom Assault Rifle, “All or Nothing” gambits, can reroute her No Return path once per run, and more.

Four new maps have also been added to No Return. Overlook, which is set high above the city of Seattle and features plenty of verticality, is the memorable site of a Seraphites encounter in the campaign. School is, during the campaign, the abandoned elementary school in which Ellie and Dina face off against the W.L.F. Streets is set in the overgrown Seattle neighborhood of Hillcrest, while Nest will be familiar to players who have played as Abby through an Infected-infested building. We’ve been so overjoyed about the reaction to this mode since Part II Remastered debuted on PS5 last year, and we hope these new maps further offer more variability and thrills as players tackle new runs.

Speaking of PlayStation 5 players, fear not – this new No Return content, as well as accompanying new Trophies and additional bug fixes – will be available day-and-date with the PC launch via a free downloadable 2.0.0 patch.

My stance is competition is a good thing and exclusives are part of that competition.
At the very least it gives a specific reason to own one system over another. Otherwise you'd just pick one of the 3.

These days system exclusivity is going the way of the dodo. Outside of Nintendo anyway since they keep a grip on their ips for a reason. But on the other hand there's little reason for exclusivity if you aren't given an incentive for it.

Agreed. Exclusives give a console its identity. If a PS5 can play all Xbox games but an Xbox Series X can't play Sony games then why purchase an Xbox at all?
GamePass.

With so many of games from first party titles like Doom: The Dark Ages to third party games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 coming day one, it’s saving me a lot of money. And I love it (not that I don’t love my PS5 too).

Subscriptions aren’t for everyone but if you ask why to purchase an Xbox at all, I know tons of people who will say GamePass.

I thought GamePass would be the edge for Xbox but I used GamePass on my PC for 3 months (didn't think it was for me but I got 3 months free for something or another, back in 2020 I think?) and it worked well enough to where I didn't really get why I'd need an Xbox. I just put my laptop near my couch, have a long enough HDMI cable to hook up to my HT system and used a Series X controller I used for many controller based games. And I think now, more and more devices support it without the need for a console?

It's definitely cool but I'm curious if it's making MS any money... not that they need it, but I figure eventually they'll want some ROI from all their crazy ass acquisitions.

I think it depends on whether you were able to stack years of it for dirt cheap. Right now it's just straight up $20 a month for new subscribers since day 1 games are now locked behind ultimate. The $1 1 month trial days are over. I think it's a lukewarm value at best now.

Well, it’s getting pretty much at least one new AAA release a month this year plus other games. If those are games you will play, you’re basically paying $20 a month vs $70 a month for each game (and still get others). I know it’s not as simple as that. But I think it’s a great value. That’s something every gamer has to consider on their own.

It just is the one edge left Xbox has. With their line up coming now, I think they shouldn’t have thrown in the towel on exclusives when they did. But I’m not looking at their finances so…

Exactly, and gamers are choosing PC because of the freedom it provides. I think it hasn't quite caught up with everyone that publishers have outgrown the console market, at least outside Japan. They no longer need the vehicle to deliver their games when everyone is connected via mobile/PC. Those who cling to it have a business model that is going extinct.

Sure. Which makes Xbox by far the most redundant and needless console to own.

Publisher wars are never going to be a thing no matter how hard you try lol.
Never said they were. At best, they are all fighting over attention spans with live service games but given how nothing has toppled the top dogs, I doubt anything short of absolute implosion will ever change that.

Anybody play that Whisker Waters game? I see it's 3 stars on PSN and the reviews on Steam are middle too (lots of complaints abotu wonky camera and seeming unfinished)
Anyone actually have experience with it on PS5?
