Heard this yesterday on the radio... R.I.P Proof.

The best thing about D12 is that everyone, espically Proof, outshined Eminem on every track he was in (which actually isn't alot). Proof never got his time to shine, because he was pretty amazing lyrically.
 
Got what he fucking deserved. I can't believe the stupidity of people today, that you would pistol-whip a bouncer and then shoot him in the head. Hopefully Bender survives, but it's not likely... here's some more details for you....

Details

"Proof knocked dude down and stood over him with gun in hand," a source close to Proof told AllHipHop.com. "Proof shot first. The bouncer on the ground didn't shoot Proof another bouncer did. Proof was shot 4 times. Twice in the head and twice in the chest/stomach area."

Police have identified the second man as 35-year-old Keith Bender.

Bender is alive, but is still in critical condition.

"Dude [Bender] is on life support and not expected to live at all," the source continued.

Bouncer surrenders

A 28-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting rapper Proof of D12 turned himself in today (April 12).

Mario Etheridge, 28, of Detroit is being detained by the police for allegedly shooting the rapper during an altercation inside of the C.C.C. nightclub.

Etheridge was also a bouncer at the C.C.C. nightclub. Police said he is a relative of Keith Bender Jr., the bouncer who was allegedly shot by Proof during the fight, which took place around 4:30 am Tuesday.

Police said Proof, born Deshaun Holton, pistol-whipped and shot Bender during the fight. Etheridge allegedly open fire on the rapper, striking him four times in the head and chest.

Authorities are still investigating the incident, but police said the 28-year-old was cooperating with authorities.

Bender, a former Sgt. in the United States Army, is on life support in critical condition.

Hopefully, this guy gets cleared and is able to go on with his life without stupid hip-hop heads and so called gangsters trying to ruin his life. Proof got what he deserved and shouldn't be held in any high regard. I'm pissed I was actually sad this asshole got killed.
 
my friend used to work at the state theater, and he was stuck working club night every saturday night. he said that the proof guy would show up claiming he was on the guest list, and when he got denied, he would start being a complete asshole saying things like "don't you know who i am? i'm proof, let me in" or similar things to that effect (often far more rude).

word on the street is that proof shot the guy because he disrepected him (something about bumping into him and not being impressed that it was proof), so essentially he got what was coming to him.

As fans of D12's Proof gathered Tuesday night outside the CCC Club along Detroit's East Eight Mile Road, where they've erected a makeshift memorial, details continued to emerge about the slain rapper's final moments, the shooting's other victim and the club where the fatal incident occurred.​

According to a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department, evidence indicates Proof shot first and then suffered a gunshot wound to the head around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday (see "D12's Proof Shot And Killed At Detroit Club"); he was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John Holy Cross Hospital. A second victim, who has been identified as 35-year-old Detroit resident Keith Bender Jr., remains in critical condition at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. He also sustained a gunshot to the head.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday. The club — which was operating illegally, after hours — had been cleared out by the time they'd arrived. The club did not have a video surveillance system. Several witnesses have come forward to discuss the incident with investigators, but police had no suspects Tuesday night. Police located several shell casings in a parking lot across the street from the club.

Fans have left tributes to Proof (real name: DeShaun Holton), a founding member of the Eminem-fronted Detroit hip-hop collective D12, around the CCC Club (see "Proof: 'Eminem's Best Friend' And A Vital Member Of Detroit's Hip-Hop Scene"). On a telephone pole in front of the nightspot, fans left stuffed animals and personal messages, and according to The Detroit News, "RIP Proof" was scribbled in red ink at the bottom of the club's sign. The CCC Club was closed Tuesday night while police continued to comb for evidence and clues.

The CCC Club has been a troubled spot for more than 10 years, according to police spokesperson James Tate, who told the The Associated Press that officers have responded to 18 incidents there since 1996. The most recent visit by police came in December, when members of the city's vice squad raided the bar and slapped its owners with six violations, most for serving alcohol to minors.

Several of Bender's relatives spoke with The Detroit News, claiming that Proof shot Bender, and was then shot by someone else. "Some words were exchanged. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time," Bender's sister-in-law Angel Bender told the News. "We're still putting the pieces together."

Bender, relatives said, is a retired Army staff sergeant and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Both he and Proof were at the CCC Club with friends, police confirmed. Authorities have not released any information on what may have led to the altercation, but believe two guns were used during the shooting.

According to ABC News affiliate WXYZ, Bender's brother, Kyle, was one of the many visitors to the CCC Club Tuesday night. "What I don't want to happen is for [Proof] to be glorified as another fallen rapper hero," he told them. "It's senseless violence that's right here in our community and we can't get rid of it."

"I just don't know how to feel right now," D12's Denaun Porter, known within the group as Kon Artis, told the Detroit Free Press. "It's crazy because we're suffering all these losses. We lost Bugz," an original member of D12 who was shot and killed in 1999 during a picnic at Detroit's Belle Isle Park. "Now we lost Proof. I just don't know, you know what I mean? We're all so messed up. Whatever happened, whoever this dude is, is still around. This is just crazy."

In a statement released Tuesday, Proof's label, Interscope, said Tuesday that memorial-service arrangements were still being made and asked that people respect the privacy of Proof's family and friends. The Associated Press reports that Proof's family and friends gathered inside a home on Detroit's Northwest side Tuesday afternoon. Proof is survived by his wife and five children.

2 things about this are very messed up.

1.) Proof shooting a bouncer. If he didn't die there would be no way he wouldn't be in jail serving at least 10 plus years for murder.

2.) The other bouncer shooting Proof 4 god damn times.

I get it already - rappers love making money, rappers used to be poor, rappers love spending money on cars and jewelry, rappers love bitches, rappers love hos, rappers want to be or already are pimps, rappers will get violent if you say something they don't like, rappers love weed and rappers hate the police. Is there anything else?

Yeah, but there are a decent number of rappers who aren't like that. Jurassic 5, Slug from Atmosphere, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Rakim's older stuff, Sage Francis, Eyedea, Brother Ali, Kanye(to an extent), Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Nas(for the most part), MF Doom, some of 2Pac and Biggie's stuff even...

But the majority that is displayed to everyone is that gangsta shit that is just that: shit.

Edit: I could definitely add to that list of rappers, but I was just making a point.

There are a few artists I still listen to but most are just painful to listen to. Even a lot of underground rap is just as stupid. I still like the beats (I download lots of instrumentals still), but the lyrics are a huge turn off. It's pretty bad when the only retort to mainstream rap is ALWAYS Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Common. Nothing against those guys, but there should be more alternatives that are well known and until that happens rap and hip-hop will suffer.

I agree with you, but at this point in my musical life, I tend to not take anything the general public thinks is good seriously. Call me pretentious and all that shit, but c'mon, anything that gets really popular almost always turns to shit. 50 Cent is a perfect example of that because before he got big, his stuff was pretty damn clever and funny. Now, it's all the same.

It's cool. I know exactly where you are coming from. 50 Cent's "How to Rob" is so funny and clever that it blows away everything he has done since. The only song he has done mainstream that I like is "21 Questions".

At least somebody knows something about rap besides what they see on MTV. Most of you douchebags have no idea what you're talking about. Oh man, I love that word most. Jurassic 5 is pretty good. They have a whole lot of white fans though. Thier concerts are pretty much usually filled with white ppl.

Ugly duckling, Murs, Atmosphere, Giant Panda
When Murs and Atmosphere get together it's pretty impressive (Felt)

Agreed. I saw Jurassic 5 last week at Northeastern and it was a whole lotta white folks. I think the reason white people like J5 is because they're easily accessible while different from the norm at the same time. Basically, I think they kick ass because I love the barbershop quartet style of delivery.

Felt is fucking sick, in my opinion. Especially when they exchange lines and whatnot.

And Zewone, I'd say have a good time, but I'm sure you will.

I tend to prefer older groups like De La Soul, , Slick Rick, Tribe, Black Sheep, Nice and Smooth, Camp Lo, Audio Two, KRS One, Pharcyde, Lords of the Underground, Bahamadia, Doug E. Fresh.

Madlib is cool and Aceyalone I usually like.

There are a few "mainstream" groups I enjoy like Nappy Roots, The Roots, Outkast but they are some of the exceptions to the rule that mainstream hip-hop has to be violent to be successful.

Even with Eminem there are times is absolutley clever, funny, and thoughtful in his rhymes but he still holds on to a thug image with an iron grip. Maybe something positive will come of his friend dying.

I know he was considering retiring after his last "album" Curtain Call. This might be what pushes him over the line to actually quit. I use to like him, but after 8 Mile and hooking up with 50...something happened to his style and he's just not very relavent to me anymore.

Rappers are fucking pussies. They think that they have to pick up a gun and fire a few shots and risk being shot themselves instead of fighting like men to settle disputes. I guess they are afraid of getting their asses kicked or afraid they will lose "respect" in the "rap game", but it's becoming a sad state of affairs when rappers are constantly being shot to death for acting like "gangstas" instead of like men. But if they would have acted like men instead of hiding behind masks of guns and violence they would still here making millions of dollars from white kids worldwide.

Why do these guys in this industry have to associate violence with success? They seem to have more rivals and more enemies than friends, which doesn't make much sense to me. You don't see this type of violence in other genres of music. You don't see Country Music stars killing each other, or rock stars, but every year more and more hip-hop stars are killed and no one seems to have any answer for it.

But damn, I can't wait for the day that Toby Keith takes a load of buckshot through the throat. :D :lol:
