PS2 memory card problems

I want to delete some stuff off of my memory card but it appears there might be a problem. I load the system without a disk like you're suppose to, I click Browser. It shows my Memory Card BUT, it won't let me enter it. I hit X and it does nothing. I hook up another controller and try it, still does nothing. I pull the Memory card out and put it back in, still no dice. If I hit O, it will go back to the Main Menu. But as I said, it's not that X on my controllers because I've tried 2 controllers plus the X works in all of my games and even worked when I hit Browser. Any help?

different memory card slot.

Try a different memory card on your PS2. Also, try your memory card on someone elses PS2. Are you still able to save in-game when you use you card on your PS2?

When you WERE able to get into the memory card still, did you ever notice a block of corrupted data and did you delete it? Also, have you ever used cheats and then saved while using the memory card? There are some games which may actually corrupt a memory card if you use cheats extensively, then save that game.

It happened to someone I know. But, the fact that you can still save to the card does sound fishy, since if it were completely screwed, that would be it.

Try it on someone elses PS2, if it works on theirs, then it may be your memory card ports are going on your PS2. I've seen it happen before. There are a ton of places online that sell replacement card/controller ports online too, just google it and you should get quite a few to come up.

While I've never used this site for any parts, they have free shipping on all domestic orders and most international ones and they even have a part finder which shows you pics of what your PS2 looks like, so you can get the right parts to fit you system.

But, an FYI, MOST larger PS2 models are the same from 30001 to 50001 and the parts are mostly interchangeable.

Site to check for parts, should you need controller/card ports: http://www.richspsxparts.com/

I did use cheats on GTA 3 and Vice City, but being such popular games, I would think everyone would have this problem, so I'm guessing it wasn't that. I never noticed corrupted data on there before, but then again, it's been a while. I'm going to try it on my cousin's PS2 hopefully in the next week or two.

Actually, I swear I remember using a ton of cheats on GTA III and then saving and then having to clean out my memory card about a month or two later due to some corrupted data.

It could be that that is your issue. This is why I have a second card as a backup and just copy any big game files I don't wanna lose to it.
