On a different note, I can't quite figure out what to make of Polygon. They seem to focus more on gaming's impact on society. Always reviewing or critiquing a game with an eye towards elevating gaming as an art form/experience rather than discussing a game's technical short comings. Personally, that's not what I look for in a game review.
It is what I look for. I am happy that gaming is now big enough to support sites like Polygon and Gameological along with traditional review sites. It is a good thing that different audiences are being served.

To be fair most companies do this. People who think otherwise are just being naive. That said, Sony tends to allow most of their big exclusives to be reviewed early regardless of score.

No, I don't know that "most companies do this". I'm not even certain that Sony does, but it sure as hell feels like it. Sure, most of their big exclusives that review well go out days (sometimes weeks) ahead of time. But the mediocre and bad stuff? Nah. Increasingly they continue to pull this release-day embargo crap. It's cowardly.

And on the subject of Polygon, there doesn't seem to be much to "figure out". They give good scores to shit they like, and bad ones to the shit they don't. Simple. What piques my interest more are the people so eager to dismiss any opinion that flies in the face of their own. Accusing writers of being corporate shills when they score below your expectation, but then keeping quiet otherwise? LOL! I'm not trying to call anyone out here, but damn.

Thank you. The irony is that even David Cage has suggested game criticism should be in the vein of film and literature dissection. So, anyone saying his games shouldn't be critiqued as such is in living in a bubble. Part of wanting people to take video games more seriously...is that people are actually going to take games more seriously. Craziness, I know! You can't shout "It's art, it's art!" and then get bent out of shape when someone treats it as such.

The Activision sale is really bad.  Deals for the last month and a half have been really mediocre.  I'm the kind of guy who will buy anything at the right price. I've spent exactly $2.49 on PSN since August ended.  That's after spending probably close to $100 in July and August during their awesome sales then.

EDF worth picking up for Vita? I've been on the fence every time it's been on sale. $10 is my buy price but $15 is probably okay too. Especially since there is that spend $50 get $10 back promo, but I don't know if I'll get there unless I pick up some stuff at /shudder regular price. There's been no announcements on next week's deal yet right? I didn't see anything in the OP and Frisky is usually pretty good about it so I assume this is the case.
EDF is awesome and had a lot to play through too.

Def worth $15

Gamefly is making most of this stuff look ridiculous unless you really want a digital copy. I suppose the Crash and Spyro games are pretty fun though Crash had not aged well IMO. Are the other Crash Games or Spyro games still pretty solid these days?

I think this week's stream will feature Crash Bandicoot 2, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and Shadow of the Colossus.

I have to disagree. They've both ages pretty well, especially compared to other 3D platformer of that era.

If there's one company that makes sure to offer the weakest discounts possible on their digital games, it's Activision. There was a recent Call of Duty sale where I think it was the Black Ops II Ultimate Edition bundle offered a very generous 6% discount. That's not a typo there. 6% off of full price. Activision is fickle as fuck with their deals.

No, that's a game that I want to completely immerse myself into for my first playthrough, so you guys will have to wait until my livestream on Saturday if you want to see some Beyond.

correct answer sir :) yep thats a game best played by yourself with not alot of people watching you. Im gonna try it out tomorrow, looked great from the demo, sad to see the low scores, especially from Destructoid.

Are there any digital versions of fun board games on PSN? Games like:

Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Power Grid, Elder Sign, Takenoko, Lords of Waterdeep, Small World, Pandemic, Alhambra, Castle Panic, The Resistance, 7 Wonders, Last Night on Earth, Forbidden Island, Shadows Over Camelot.

$30 for Dragon's Crown on Vita is very tempting. Wish it would go on sale for $20ish like Marumasa did recently and I'd be all over it:

Guys, let us have a moment of silence for the death of a great sale today. After 196 days of being on sale for $1.99, Amy has now risen back to full price at $2.99. We do not know if we'll ever see this game on sale ever again, but you can rest assured that everybody that was ever interested in that game had more than enough time to get it. Thank you for your time and prayers.

RIP Amy

What the fuck? I was just signing on to buy it and they take it down without any notice? This is bullshit, fuck Sony.

The Dragon's Crown sale ends next week:

Your prayers have been answered! Althena has granted you the Blessing of Discounts and from today until Oct. 15 Dragon's Crown will be $10 off in retail stores and PlayStation Network. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the Blessing of Discounts also applies to theDragon's Crown Storyteller Voice Pack and Into the Labyrinth Theme! So if you haven't picked up Dragon's Crown yet, grab it for $39.99 on the PS3 or $29.99 on the PS Vita and join the thousands of other adventurers in Hydeland!

$30 is how much Dragon's Crown should have cost out the gate on Vita. If you're a fan of hack and slash or beat em up games you probably won't be disappointed at that price. It's definitely not in must-buy price range if the game wasn't previously on your radar, but if you'd been eyeing it It's definitely worth considering.

Tempted on Prototype.  I liked the 60 min playthrough I had way back when.  10.49 seems like a nice price.

But do I need another open world game since I have Infamous 2 that I never even started (plus so much more)?

And you know that it will be free sometime soon.

What to do, what to do?

As Mamorukun's Curse is still available this week at the sale price, any thoughts on it? I am a fan of bullet hell games and it looks interesting but I am not sure if it looks $10 interesting even telling myself it could count towards the $50 as I'm not sure I'll hit that much for the month.

I have no idea what any of this means. I'll try it out and see if I like it, I'm sure I can find a group of good people to play with and just stick with them.
If you have difficulties finding any decent people and want some access to higher level offerings that wouldn't be available to you early on solo'ing I can help you out, you don't know me so it'll still be playing with a random person but it'd give me an excuse to check out some of the black rites and etc from the free dlcs anyways

My only thought on that game is that I would have given it a shot at $5. At $10, I have to pass. I've read that it's not a super intense bullet hell game, which is good for me as I'm quite a novice when it comes to those games.

For you guys that got screwed by Sony taking down the Amy sale price so quickly, I called customer service and they wouldn't give me the old price, so I yelled and cursed at the customer service rep for like 15 minutes before she finally transferred me to a manager who gave me a $1 credit to my account so I could buy it at the sale price. Just FYI, if you call Sony and show them who's boss they'll probably hook you up too!

if you like bullet hell games definitely get it. its really cutesy, but aside from that its a super fun game. the default difficulty is totally doable (i 1ccd it already, and im pretty bad at shmups), but it dials way way up once you get into the extreme difficulty challenges and stuff. if you ever played them its kinda like a bullet hell Pocky and Rocky, or Guwange. theres a bunch of stuff to do in it too.

I wish Spyro and Crash were playable on Vita. Those are some of my favorite games from the PS1 days and I would gladly rebuy all of them on Vita.

Yes, and even though this was the most asked question on the blog update yesterday (Why aren't Crash and Spyro on the Vita?), no one from Sony answered it. So odd. Say something about the discrepancy, even if to say "We don't have any updates on this. Sorry."

I got so hyped seeing Dragon's Crown sales thinking it'd be a 50% discount...I'm dying to get that game but not for $30-$40

I know this is way off topic, but couldn't think of a better place to ask. I'm looking at downloading Metal Gear Solid to play before I play the HD Collection. Anyone want to comment on how well it holds up? I don't really want to waste the $10 on it if I'm not going to enjoy it. Rather just watch a Twin Snakes playthrough on Youtube in that case. Thanks.

FYI DC is getting a cross play patch for Vita/PS3. Just released in Japan today, due out for the West soon.

It totally holds up. I played it for the first time a few years ago, and I was impressed with a lot of the graphical touches and design. A lot of PS1 games look hideous now, but MGS is so well made that it's timeless.

Thanks, you might have me convinced. Visuals don't really bother me, my main concern is the gameplay. Hopefully I won't be too frustrated with the controls and such.

I played MGS for the first time about 2 years ago and I thought, gameplay-wise, it held up great. It's a really awesome game, well worth a playthrough.
