ARGH!!! My PS3 just died on me. Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place since my boy and me have been playing Disney Infinity together on it. Broke my heart when I told him it was broken. My PS4 preorder is now in jeopardy... not sure if I can swing buying both systems.

DAMN YOU PS4 AND YOUR LACK OF BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY!!!!
Well if you send it to Sony they will replace it for $150ish. Not ideal, but better than buying a new system at the store.

Curious - was it a fat or a slim PS3?

Also, if you aren't opposed to buying a used one, I've had good success with Cowboom - I picked up a Vita and 2nd PS3 (super slim model) from them for $120 and $140, respectively, during their flash sales.

Anybody have an idea on the odds of Jeanne D'Arc ever going on sale digitally? I realize it dropped from $23 to $15 six months ago, but I can't find anything about it ever going on sale, nor has it been a PS+ title. $15 is a bit steep for a PSP game so I'm leery of paying that much for it, but OTOH it's easily one of the games I most want to play on my Vita.
I just spent $145 on PSP RPG's after selling my physical copies on Amazon for the ones still worth close enough to make it a cheap flip to digital.

You have no idea how right you are about the timing... I just bought a 50" Vizio LED 240hz 3D Smart TV on Tuesday.

It was a grossly weight challenged PS3. 80gb MGS4 bundle, so a little over five years old. I was able to get the game out and I've already taken the hair dryer to it but I'm not firing it back up until I'm ready to back everything up.

I'm not against buying used, but I was hoping I could come across some sales with the PS4 launch coming up. Not sure how long I can last though. I can always play my 360 for now, but my boy is heartbroken over it. He's five and has already told me that he's going to save his money so he can help me buy another one.

GameStop's got a 25% off used console coupon coming up as Steal of the Week. That'll probably still be more expensive than Cowboom but you'll get no questions asked returns for the first few days and could probably compare a few units in store before making a decision, pick the one in best condition.

If you had a way to backup your current PS3 HDD you could buy the 12 GB one for $199.99 and then throw your HDD in that (putting a HDD into a PS3 requires a wipe of the HDD hence why you need to backup.)

He could get a hard drive enclosure and back it up to his PC. That would be the easiest option in my opinion.
Hmm... I wasn't aware that you could back it up that way (I thought you always had to use the back up utility on the PS3).

So I can just pop out the drive and connect it to my laptop to back everything up? I already have an enclosure from when my laptop died so I'll read up on it, thanks.

This is what I was leaning towards but I know I can find a better deal if my timing is right. I still have the original 80gb drive that the system came with so I can pop that in an enclosure and back it up that way as long as the hair dryer did its trick and the system will even turn on.

Does the Wheel of Fortune + Jeopardy bundle come with the DLC for both games?
Appears not. Bought the bundle last night and both DLC packs are still available for purchase. I was a little disappointed but from what I read, there's plenty of content without the DLC. It's nearly the same price getting each 'ultimate edition' as it is getting the bundle then getting the DLC separate. I'm fine with that--I'll hold off on the DLC until I actually want them, and save myself the trouble if I burn out on the games before I feel like expanding the content.

Bit on Earth Defense Force for Vita once I saw the used Japanese copies on Amazon were going for $40 each. I'm fairly certain there's no English language option on the cart version and it only takes up 632 MB, so I finally came down from being on the fence.

If you're talking about preserving your game data and saves from your PS3 hard drive, that method won't work. My MSG4 fat PS3 also died recently (YLOD) and while I had a back up, it was old.

I wasted weeks sending it out to be repaired, having the repair fail, placing old hdd in new PS3, restoring old back to new PS3. None of these made me whole (at the same place I was when PS3 died). I talked to Sony about back up not restoring game data and some saves, they said it's based on publisher and didn't have a list of games affected. I found lists online after searching.

The best I could do was restore my old back up and I learned that you can't restore content to a different system!!! I did get my old game saves ( for those that allow it).

TL:DR If your old PS3 won't boot and you don't have a PS3 back up, save yourself time and additional heartache and buy new and re download content and move on.

Locked saves don't transfer to a new console with the back-up, only to the same console. PS+ should basically mitigate that issue now with the ability to back-up those saves to the cloud and then to the new console.

Yes, great point! I was a dunderhead who didn't have cloud saves enabled, D'Oh!! I do now so not as worried about future hw failure except the time spent to download everything again. It was during the D/L list glitch with all the dupe entries and I thought I was losing my mind, lol. Apparently I have lots of digital content, mostly RB DLC, too bad can't select and d/l in batches.

has anyone here successfully installed KoA? I've downloaded it twice now and the install would stop around 10% and make a corrupt data file under 'Game' in XMB

If that's the case, seems you'll unfortunately need to re-download it. Make sure to NOT put the game in background download, instead allowing it to finish directly from the store. I'm not sure why, but it works for me whenever I have the dreaded 'corrupt install' issue.

Like breakfuss I also downloaded KoA in the foreground and didn't run into any problems. Hopefully that'll do the trick for you.

Worked fine for me, though maybe you could try starting the download via the web store and letting Auto Update handle it for you. Also, checking under the Game Data Utility folder that there's nothing corrupt there that could be causing it.

I had problems the first time too. In my case it hung at Installing Trophies. I had to power off and then when I tried to delete the game to redownload, that hung too. I ended up with a corrupt file that I can't delete at all. However my second attempt worked. I'm still stuck with a corrupt file I can't delete that is presumably taking up space. :(

I downloaded it on Tuesday, but I didn't get to install it until now after I read your post. Everything installed fine on my Slim PS3. I agree with others that, unfortunately, you'll have to redownload it again.

But trust me...it's an amazing game! I've already owned a physical copy of it.

Thanks for the advice. I read up on it a little and saw that you're only able to use the source PS3 to backup your data so it doesn't look like that enclosure idea will work. What I'll probably end up doing is using the old 80gb in the enclosure to back up the data and go from there (all of this is assuming the blow dryer gave it enough life to last the backup). I also didn't have cloud saves enabled so I feel real stupid right about now, but I'll run through the list and do a couple of quick saves to the cloud before I attempt a full backup. Feels like I'm on some sort of secret mission... get in and get out before the whole place blows.

A quick thanks to all of you that have given advice!

Any idea if Dark Souls is included in the list of games that support backed up saves? I lost my 180 hour game save for Dark Souls when my MGS4 fat died. I tried a solder reflow (literally put the motherboard in the oven @ 250 for a few hours). Reassemble it to find it still didn't work. I even tried a second time with no improvement. So I did what any good completionist does... I bought a Slim, reformatted my hard drive, plopped in Dark Souls, and went to work.
