Thanks for taking out the part where I said the exact same things happen in the PS3 version. When I saw the same bugs on both the PS3 version and the "remastered" edition out much later, and they would occur every time I restarted from a checkpoint, how is that not common? That's like... The definition of common. Unavoidable, in fact.

I disagree the AI is 'awful'. Sure, friendly AI looks odd sometimes since it's trying to balance your position with enemy positions to both be out of the way yet helpful, which proves to be almost impossible. But big deal. It doesn't affect the gameplay. There is no easy way to do companion AI - it has to live in this shadow world where it can't affect gameplay too much, but has to react to player movement in a very difficult way [enemies can just alert and attack, but stealth companion AI needs to figure out a way to 'stay stealth' in a complex system, which is borderline impossible at times].

Not necessarily. Putting aside the option of simply not having the AI companion during gameplay segments, which would be weird, I actually think it would have been more interesting if you had to manually direct Ellie around, whether via placing waypoints or swapping direct control. It could have also added more puzzle elements than the rote "get plank, place across gap" or crate-pushing that's in the game as it is. Maybe each "segment" would start with the two of them getting separated and you play as both of them to see how they're reunited. I also just don't think the stealth in TLOU is fun at all, and would have preferred a more action-based approach.

Besides, the companion AI was not the only busted thing. Enemy AI was really rotten too, and matters were only compounded by how inconsistent the zombie-logic was. So clickers, apparently, navigate entirely through echolocation, right? Except... Not really, because you can be standing still right next to them and they won't do anything. It's more like they're just straight-up blind, because otherwise they should be able to see a human-shaped object in the middle of a hallway. I realize this particular bit is nit-picking, but hey, why not lay it all out here.

'Obvious spawns' exist in tons of games, from Call of Duty to D*Souls. Big deal. It's a design choice -- placing specific enemies/events allows a more tightly crafted game, but comes with its own disadvantages. It's not something I'd criticize a game over.

Those aren't stealth games, and you don't have magical wallhack vision in them either. I wasn't saying it's new, but that kind of shit in a stealth game, especially when it's as blatantly obvious as it is here, is criminal. In many cases I would think I had an area cleared, because Joel's Super-Ears only saw one enemy like 80 feet away, then I turn a corner and there's a zombie that auto-alerts even with its back turned because they didn't want you to be able to stealth through that area. That is fucking garbage, and only belongs in garbage games.

You're making mountains out of molehills. There's a reason most people looked past these issues and love the game.

Yes, a combination of high metascore hivemind, ignorance to actual gameplay concerns, and being wowed by purty cutscenes. That's the reason. People like lots of terrible things. I like some terrible games, but I can at least recognize that they aren't good. I'm not going to try to paint EDF as a masterpiece of storytelling or some shit, but it's a hell of a lot more fun than TLOU.

At least Naughty Dog redeemed themselves from U3 and TLOU's one-two punch of suck with Uncharted 4.

Dude your nitpicking is ridiculous, you do realize that TLOU was a PS3 game right?  It pushed the PS3 to the absolute limit, which means most of the things your nitpicking about were basically pushed to the absolute limit of what the PS3 was capable of.  While I will agree that the game is not for everyone, and that people can not like the game, to blatantly sit there and bash the game and say that it was a poorly made game is ridiculous.

One, I didn't even start this digression, and two, there are far more impressive PS3 games -- including Uncharted 2, from the same developer, years earlier. I also played plenty of PS3 games that didn't have nearly as many technical issues. They did at least fix the constant texture seams in the Remastered version, as well as how when he reloaded Joel's handgun magazine would bounce around like a superball.

I don't know how any part of TLOU "pushed the console to its limit", but okay. It's a thoroughly bad-to-mediocre Manhunt ripoff. It does absolutely nothing that those games did not, apart from the AI partner which is more of a hindrance than anything else. I forgot that it's not even worth arguing these points because a lot of people still love it, for whatever reason. In time, people will realize the truth (and many have since the Remastered release), just like with stuff like FF7 or Shenmue. There will always be those with impenetrable nostalgia, but y'know. Can't fix that. If anything, I think the people who insist on its greatness are the ones trolling, because nobody can come up with a good defense other than "THE STORY" or "NUH UH YOU'RE JUST TROLLING".

So I'm done, it's been a long time since I even thought about that shitpile and I prefer it that way.

Everyone can have their opinion about the quality of a game or movie or whatever and be right at the same time because of individual interests. It's like, I watched the new Ghostbusters movie recently and was expecting to not make it far before giving up on it and ended up finding it to be a pretty enjoyable movie. Having a low expectation made the experience better for me. Still, there are plenty of people who will not enjoy it for one reason or another... which is not my problem. I thought it was good.

I 100% agree with you, but there is also a distinct difference between not liking a game because it does not appeal to you and saying a game is poorly made as well. He is saying the game is poorly made which is not opinion its him saying the game is badly made which couldnt be farther from the truth but its whatever your right he will never change his stance so Ill shut up.

That changes it for the whole system though, right? It seems like it would be a pain to change that every time you were going to play and then change it back when you exit. It would be much nicer to be able to switch them in the game.

Yeah it changes the whole system. You can check or uncheck the box that says "enable custom button assignments" depending on whether you want it enabled or not.

I must of been living under a rock for the past year, but did he say you need PlayStation camera in order to you psvr? If so im so so happy I have no interest in VR gaming.

Why the heck are you pre-ordering is a better answer;). I pre-order all the time, but it's Niche games already out in Japan usually, so I know what to expect. I don't order AAA games until I read reviews usually.

Good question. Extra $10 off at Best Buy. I've watched a ton of missions online but I get nervous when there's no reviews. Anyone remember Brink?

I don't know when the review embargo lifts, but since Mafia III doesn't release until Friday (for some reason), you at least have a few more days to hope that some reviews surface.

Should I get the PS3 or PS4 version of The Last of Us? I love my PS3, its my main system, and cause the battery in the controller is so terrible I rarely use my PS4. Is this the type of game I'd want PS4 features like record gameplay and screenshots for?

PS4 version easily. Better graphics, plays a bit smoother, comes with expansion.....

For me it was The Division. I saw gameplay before and looked alright but generally was generic stuff when I played and shortly after traded it in. After that no more AAA pre-orders, though the $10 certificate on FFXV is tempting me.

 
What are the PS VR titles available for preorder now on the PS store?

I see Rez and 1000 foot robot golf, are there anymore? Wish there was a section for this

I'll probably pre-order Mafia III to lock in the $10 RZ certificate and then wait to pick it up until good reviews or word of mouth surface. They'll hold a pre-order for a week after launch before cancelling the order and refunding your money. Only downside is I believe they hold the funds during that week but that's not an issue for me.

If you put that much stock in reviews, pick up your copy but keep it sealed till reviews come in or you can watch some twitch streams and if you aren't satisfied do a return. The power of the gcu and $10 reward is a strong one.

Bards gold start out well and is pretty tough with some fun secrets to find. Eventually you figure out what youre doing and the game gets too easy, with the later level not adding nearly enough variety or increased challenge.

Still, its fun for 2-3 hours and probably worth $3
 
The anti-preorder sentiment online is so stupid. It's not like you're locked in to a pre-order, you can cancel it even after the game releases. Only time you even have to pay attention is if you order something online that can't be returned in store.

Plus there are advantages to pre-ordering, exclusive DLC, free hats, and much more importantly $10 GCs from Best Buy. 

 
This thread is sadly lacking in darkest dungeon praise & hype.

The game is awesome.

Edit: and its on sale for ps+ members for another week or so.

Here is what I think happened, and a short history lesson that you may already be aware of (I am not attempting to be condescending, just never know who is 15 on here and who is 45). Back in the day, B was cancel and A was confirm. That's just how it was in Japanese games. This carried on into the PlayStation era. X was cancel and O was confirm (the O and X are used fairly literally in Japanese for true/false). Even when Final Fantasy VII came out here, O was confirm and X was cancel.

Eventually, for whatever reason, in the West, X began to be used for confirm and O for cancel, leading to headaches.

And even in 2016, we are still having headaches because of it. Undoubtedly in the Japanese version, O was not just for jumping/dialog but also opening the menu. When they translated it, they swapped the conversation/confirmation to the X button instead of its native O, but they didn't swap anything else.

Or, maybe they swapped everything. I would think for us that X should be jump/confirm, square should be attack, menu should be O and triangle should be placement.

So, basically, they either swapped everything and caused confusion (traditionally in japan, X should be jump and Square should be attack), or they only swapped one/some things (the confirm button) and caused a giant circle jerk.

The final release will probably be just as confused, and we will just have to live with it.

That said, even though my explanation was as long as the tutorial, I really enjoyed the demo, tutorial included (Japan is the land of hand-holding tutorials--not everyone will have played Minecraft... or Dragon Quest... and some of the players will be quite young... or quite old... similar situation to the button configuration, I guess)

It is fantastic. Controls are little odd though -- especially on the menus and equipment screens. While the core gameplay and combat is straightforward, there's still a lot that I haven't quite gotten yet.

Game honestly could use a more thorough tutorial.

Regardless, it's very good. Love the graphical style and the dark voice over.

It's kind of like a traditional rogue like having clear floors but with turn-based party combat ala Final Fantasy with a Dark Souls atmosphere and difficulty. Deep game too with all the skills, weapons stats and classes.
 
PSA xbox games with gold has the escapists in october. I would imagine that means it could be a ps+ game in the future.

Its enough that I will pass on buying it in this sale.

Why would you imagine that would mean it will come to PS+? There has been more cases of Games with Gold games not coming to PS+ then one's that have.
