If you think of Chrono Cross as it's own game, not thinking it's part of the Chrono series, it's objectively a quality title with one of the best soundtracks in video game history. Under the mindset of it being connected to Trigger, speaking personally, it's not too hard to find it loathsome at how it approached the original's outcome.
I agree with this assessment. I really enjoyed Cross, but I wasn't trying to compare it to Trigger. They're very different games.

It's an okay game, but the combat is not very good.

Especially the final boss where you have to cast spells in a certain order, including HIS spells to beat him.

It has many different routes and ways to play through it but.. I never went back after my first play through.
I remember beating that game back in the day, and how big of a PITA that was to do, but it is a very good game.

How is Chrono Cross in relation to Chrono Trigger? I loved Chrono Trigger and played the crap out of it on SNES but i never got around to playing Chrono Cross. I have read and been told that Chrono Cross is kind of a Love it or hate it type of game/ Is This a correct assumption/statement?
I played Chrono Cross before I played Chrono Trigger and I loved it. It was also the first JRPG I played on the original PlayStation. The multiple paths and numerous recruitable party members were great.

New update for Diablo III UEE on PS4:

It'd be really cool if more people could play these two games:

Screen%20Shot%202016-01-13%20at%209.03.26%20PM_zpsfm2amfo5.png
I tried getting copies during game stops buy 2 get 1 sale, had many items to get the free shipping but these two were the main point of the order.
Got my order canceled because "item" (a singular unidentified item) went out of stock.
Surely had it gone through there'd be a remastered vita version with both games on psn by now.

:( fuck you gamestop

If you already have rewards set up and linked to your psn account, it's automatic.
I had mine linked up and was earning points previously and assumed it was still all linked up but apparently it wasn't and I didn't get the points for any of the stuff I bought last night. I assume I'm SOL and its not a huge deal but it is slightly annoying.

it's worth 5 bucks max

i feel so stupid buying it at 20 considering i had plenty of info on the game, i bought into the hype like a sucker
Yeah, I had heard that it doesn't have any real replay value and wasn't that long of an experience. Plus, I hate the feeling that game prices for older PC indies seem to creep up in price once it hits the console digital stores, and in some cases, waaaaay higher than mobile pricing (like The Banner Saga this week). I'm fine paying $10-15 for most good indies out of the gate, but when it starts getting to the $20-30 range, I tend to pause and wait for sales down the road. Same instance with This War of Mine coming out in a few weeks--looks interesting, but not $29.99 interesting. I can definitely survive on my backlog until a sale later.

We didn't get them digitally for the same reason we didn't get Crisis Core, Final Fantasy I and II, and Kingdom Hearts BBS, and a couple of other games digitally. Squeenix resisted doing digital, and when they finally did they decided it wasn't worth it for them to release the older games digitally. (though they did in japan and EU)

I loved Xenogears as a teen, I found the deep and philosophical plot very intriguing and engrossing.

The problems I had with the game were minor, but easily summed up.

#1. Combos just became annoying late in the game, not only inputting them but having to watch the animation every time.

#2. The arbitrary rules of the Mechs. I ended up power leveling the pink bunny thing since it doesn't use fuel in mech battles and having her my go to char.

#3. Disc 2.... I've gotten into debates over disc two. There is actually a gaming culture out there who feel the 2nd disc was made like that on purpose because people wouldn't put up with more of the same of disc 1.

For the record, #1 occurred on my play through while in college.
yeah attack animations were too long in xenogears it's one of the biggest complaints I have for the game along with it being super easy. I prettymuch just got to a point where I would do other stuff while mashing through battles.

yeah getting the true ending sucks and so I skipped doing that. You can still beat the boss without doing the super special rainbow order attack. Its lame that they would lock out the games ending for something like that. Chrono cross is another super easy game minus some bumps here and there like the earth robot things in the dragon falls dungeon the skeleton island. The large number of recruitables was cool but most of them have pretty weak stats or are locked to bad elements. Water and Fire have the highest usage for the majority of the game while earth and wind are barely used at all. Dark and light are both great but the number of attack spells for them are few and far between early on.

It'd be really cool if more people could play these two games:

I have those in my backlog after 2014's 10$ new psp black friday sale on amazon. got so many games from that XD

Great great games. Too bad they're not on psn.
honestly I don't know why. You would think they would want to get their stuff on psn for more sales. What's even more saddening is there was a cool ce for them we didn't get.

Bought them at release

Played through first Departure and loved it.

When I went to play second evolution, the housing on the UMD had a major crack in it.. I had to buy a whole new housing.

Seemed to be a common feature with PSP games, I honestly wish they, Valkyrie Profile, FF 1, 2, & Crisis Core were released digitally.

#1. Fully agreed, if I found an attack string that did great damage and didn't bring the animation, I'd spam it.

I was SICK of seeing Big Bang.

I never could get a handle on the Mech Fights due to the rules of fuel consumption and refilling.. it just seemed out of place in the series.

It never seemed to easy to me, it felt like many other JRPGs at the time.

In contrast, I remember beating the entire Saga series without using the mechs.. save for where needed. (I still have my original copies, including the hologram 3)

#2. The combat in Chrono Cross did nothing for me. It felt like they were trying to be complex for complex sake at times when it wasn't needed.

Could not find any mention of this but I just read that Hitman preorders were cancelled on PSN? I guess it is nothing to worry about though according to Square.

I didn't see you posting or calling them ridiculous, I apologize.

I am debating Rogue Galaxy PS4.
I still have the original PS2 version and save at the final boss. I just never beat it because the final boss splits all your characters up to each take on a boss on their own. I had a couple chars incredibly under leveled and couldn't finish the fight.
I wanted to love rogue galaxy so much but having to heal every 1-2 seconds turned me off soo much, extremely annoying indeed

From quotes that seems to be more of a FFXIII, FFXIII-2, FFXIII-3 deal though. I suppose we'll know more later.
From what I gathered, all they said is each episode will be as long as a full sized game.

Question is, full sized FF game, or modern AA game that's only 5-8hrs long?

For anyone considering Thartic, which just released this week, let me warn you that it's primarily a dice/RNG game (has mechanics similar to a board game) and at times (read: most times) will kick your teeth in. I saw a few positive reviews for it and watched someone playing the PC version on Twitch. From what I saw, it looked interesting so I bought it. I very much regret it. You can play the game perfectly and still get destroyed, due to the luck/randomness factor. If you like difficulty for difficulty's sake, keep it on your radar--however, for everything that's there, I'd still recommend waiting until it's $5 or so.

I will wait for a PC bundle on Thartic. I also really dislike the butt ugly 3D models (not much of a graphics guy but they bother me). I also dislike a mass amount of RNG in my board games/video games. If the game is quick than eh, but one time I played a dicefest for 4 hours, and I was ready to kill the guy who owned it. Also didn't help he took an hour before explaining the game. I'm glad my friend won that one and the guy melted down. Ah good old board game nights.

I don't think they will be that short because a 6 hour Final Fantasy game would piss a lot of people off. Who knows though, there are people who are going to be mad no matter what it turns out like.

I saw the dice thing and lost interest. I don't want to see dice unless it's a board game.

People are already upset and feel betrayed that they changed the genre of the game from RPG to Action-RPG style.

Hell it seems people get offended/upset over anything.

I had a conversation earlier this evening where someone was actually pissed off Overwatch wasn't an FTP game, and had to be paid for.. even though it's a decent price.

I prefer Blizzard non F2P games. Hearthstone is alright but man the grinding for cards and a lot of samey feeling fights (maybe better with all these expansions when I played there was only 1 I believe). Now Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2....decent games that cost money and didn't have any walls. Why do people want terrible F2P walls? I still need to try Heroes of the Storm as well.

Heroes is free, and he ended up paying for it >_>

A game of Thartic usually runs anywhere from thirty to forty minutes (sometimes much sooner due to the RNG). Game's ten rounds total, but sometimes you're lucky to get to round four or five. Came close once (round eight) before the game decided to crush me. I'm usually pretty accepting of most games, but if PlayStation offered timed refunds like Steam, it would have already been returned. It's a very niche game, hence my earlier warning.

Tempted to get the GTA bundle but it just came out, would expect this to eventually be cheaper, no?
Not to mention I've read and watched videos and it seems the games aren't easy on the eyes after all these years...but I'm interested and hoping for a $9.99 price at some point for the bundle.

From what was said about it and it looks possible in the whole 10 seconds of game play they showed I think it's action/turn-based not a full on action system.

I don't get why the people upset by it wanted a remake in the first place. Just play the original and if you want something pretty to look at watch Advent Children.
Not everything ages gracefully?
That's the only thing I can think, and sometimes remakes are better (Resident Evil and Tomb Raider are the only ones I can think of)
