I beat the story missions in Just Cause 3. They're fine, but I don't know why they're a big focus for this game instead of making the game more like Crackdown where there are little to no story missions and the focus of the game is on exploring the world, finding the cities and bases to liberate, and causing chaos along the way. The trophy percentages back it up that story missions aren't what players want out of that game:

Mission 1 (Mandatory during intro): 83%

Mission 2: 52%

Mission 3: 27%

Mission 4: 15%

Mission 5: 10%

Mission 6: 7%

Mission 7: 3.8%

Mission 8: 3.5%

If I'm reading it right, there's a similar drop-off for Just Cause 2 that shows it may not just be a time issue:

Mission 1 (Mandatory): 88%

Mission 2 (Mandatory): 79%

Mission 3: 42%

Mission 4: 32%

Mission 5: 24%
Mission 6: 18.9%

Mission 7: 18.6%

There's also a trophy for beating it on Normal that is only at 12%, which doesn't make sense since Mission 7 is the final mission and should trigger both.
I beat JC2's story on console and it's just tough to come out and do it again on PC. The story missions just are nothing special.

Of course, to be fair, most cheevo completion percentages are pretty damn embarrassing. BI was just under 40% normal completion on PC. RE4 PC has a 60% rate for "Survive the village battle." and a 22% rate for defeat Saddler and go home.

Oh, I'm definitely serious! I know some people skip over novelizations of tv/movies because it always seems to be crap. But the Game of Thrones books are actually good! I mean, they make a few changes here and there that are annoying but overall it's pretty faithful to the tv show. Except dragons obviously look better on screen than just reading 'There's a big dragon flying around!' or whatever.
I.. i ... just... wow

I have never watched Game of Thrones, but even *I* know the TV show is BASED on the books...

Going back to re-read the rest of the convo.. Are you talking fan based crap? or the actual books..
I'm talking about those books. Fire and Ice or whatever.

And clearly the books are based on the tv show - how else would the books know exactly what each character looks like?

Well if the TV show didn't come first how else would the books exist? They're going to have to put another book out for the next season though.

I understand the confusion about Game of Thrones.  The TV show is loosely based on the original Lord of the Rings.  That's what the poster was mixing up.

The game and the books are novelizations of the GoT show like the Star Trek books.  That's why everyone complains about how long it takes for the writer to release a book about the TV season that just passed.

I just can't believe that they would let all those floppy wieners in to a book.

40% of the players beating a game is actually really good considering how many Steam people get those games for dirt cheap, boot it up once, and never return. BioShock Infinite is at least a story-focused game that probably rewards players for pushing further into it compared to Just Cause where the story is as cookie cutter as it gets. RE4 and other horror games (not arguing about this) are games that by their very nature will have much lower completion percentages due to part of the appeal being to see how long you can handle what they're throwing at you. Alan Wake is at 24% and Soma is at 34%, so Just Cause's easy completions being much lower than those games says a lot.

I'm actually curious what people here have to say about the original "Just Cause".  Frankly I'm surprised a BC version wasn't offered on the One thing instead of JC2.  Is the first game really that bad or just unremarkable?

On another note, if you don't have it already, buy Prismatic Solid.  I mean I LOVE that game, good stuff and worth $5 but easily worth $2.50.

Maybe we'll Vorpal and a few others off Indie Marketplace as well.

Non Non! You guys got it wrong. Game of Thrones is based on our own history. Even snoopy dog said so himself.

I guess I don't understand when people say things like this. How can you tell if a voice actor is good unless you speak the language? I suppose I could see how you might tell if someone is really bad in any language, but it seems like it would be difficult otherwise. It's fairly easy to spot language when you can see the performance, but if you can only hear it, that seems pretty difficult.

Do you speak Japanese or is there something i'm missing?
Sarang01 is a filthy sub elitist so please don't associate me with him. But yes I will say if you have watched/listened to enough of a language even if you don't understand it, you can discern good and bad performances. There are occasional bad japanese performances too, especially live action acting which is very hit or miss. I took japanese for 3 years in college, so I do understand spoken nihongoes.

What's the point of releasing Towerfall Ascension for the Vita? It has virtually no SP content, and is made as a primarily multiplayer game. Why bother?

Four-player local MP on PlayStation TV and for friends with Vitas, plus it unlocks the PS4 version from the PS+ requirements. It's win-win for everyone.

I don't like to talk about it because they worship at the altar of their patron saint Anita and as a result are my blood enemies and I should not recommend anyone patronize them at all ever, but Towerfall has a pretty decent solo campaign, in my opinion. I never have actually played the multi. The solo is certainly enough if you are game for an arcadey sort of Bubble Bobble-esque room clearer game.

What are the odds Fallout 4 goes on sale during these "weeks of sale" things?  I want to buy it NOW.  But in reality, maybe I won't play it right away anyway (or at least not before the sales tonight start).  But... I want to buy it now!  I know it's always safer to wait, but it doesn't seem terribly likely for a sale, right?

Also... were you guys serious about the Game of Thrones talk... like... no one actually thinks the novels, which were written prior to the show, were based on the show... right?

You're paying too much attention to the sequence of events. There is an AI writing all this stuff, but unfortunately it's glitchy and sometimes releases stuff out of order. That's why the books 'technically' came out first, and why the Star Wars episodes are out of order. People like to blame Lucas for that colossal fuckupery, but really, it was the AI's fault.

Anyway, to your direct point, you have yet to explain how the novelist would possibly know what happened if he hadn't watched the show first.

It's not entirely untrue anyways. If we aren't there already, we're probably no longer than 12 months away from the show jumping ahead of the novels.

When do the new weeks PSN sales go live?

Sorry for the noob question, I just got a PS4. Thx
Around 2pm CST new PSN prices go live. It's usually a slow process sometimes starting earlier or taking longer with variohs quirks in interim - some new sale items may start showing up under "deals" at full price as early as noon CST or full PS+ discounts may not show up until after 2pm (usually not taking more than 2-3 hours).

Any opinions on Tron Bonne seems like a decent price?
It's the prequel to Mega Man Legends and part of that overall game series. If that means anything to you then you should buy it now as the sale will be over in a few hours. I think that's the best price the game has been since it launched.

Just got a PS4 after skipping PS3 entirely, so possibly a stupid question:

Thinking of grabbing ACC: China from Amazon for $3.50 (got credit there, dont have PS+), but hoping to get a glimpse of this week's new deals before pulling the trigger. Anyone have any experience with how fast/slow Amazon's would-be PM sale prices are to adjust to PSN's price changes? Basically, can I expect Amazon's $3.50 price to still be active by the time PSN's new weekly deals go live later today?

Also, quick thanks to Frisky and co for keeping this thread humming. Your time/effort is appreciated, particularly now that I'll be actively stalking this thread.

2pm PST, not CST.

PS+ sale prices are usually in place by then as well -- the sony blog will post their store update blog post when the store is finalized.

Previous weeks sale prices are the first to get updated, usually much earlier in the morning. If the sale prices are still up now, run. Always buy no later than Monday night to ensure sale prices don't get changed before you pull the trigger. There is effectively 0% chance previous sale prices will still be up when new sales go live [unless an item is on sale for longer than a week, obviously, but in general].

Shovel Knight physical copy is on sale at Bestbuy right now..

Just helping you spend more money.
Also on sale at Amazon.

PSN version though to me wins because it's triple cross buy with the Vita and PS3 (neither of which got physical releases). Still, I would like to get the physical version for my 3DS just because the game is that good.

...

Concerning last minute purchases...

It's easy to get caught up buying games just because they are cheap. If it looks like something you'd enjoy, go for it... if not, pass. If you know about a sale all week long and it's less than two hours before the prices will definitely be gone and you still haven't made up your mind... you probably don't want it that bad anyway.

New side banner for week 2 is popping up. Looks like TLOU:R and TESO will be part of this sale.

tJoDk0V.jpg
It stinks that TESO for PS4 couldnt be included in the free weekend last weekend. It was fine to play on my pc but would like to test out the ps4 version. It literally felt like Skyrim online. It had some of the normal trappings of MMOs. I would be willing to bet ps+ members get %50 off for this sale. Its a game that needs players kind of badly.

The f2p stuff didnt seem overbearing and overall its a solid title.
