Eh, if you're having second thoughts, then just wait awhile. You have to remember that the graphics will only have that "wow-factor" for a short while after you buy it. There are new games that are coming out for the current generation of consoles that look great, but how often do you look at your xbox game and say "wow, these are great graphics!" And yeah, they are, but we've all gotten used to them.
Well good 3D graphics are finally making their way to the handheld arena, and everybody is wetting themselves over them. That'll be the norm for a few months, and then when everybody gets used to the graphics and the general newness of the PSP, the importance of gameplay will start to reemerge.
When you get a new console (handheld or otherwise), that's all you'll play for a good while. But after you've seen all that it can do, you'll fall back into your normal gaming habits. If you're anything like me, you'll gravitate towards playing good games, regardless of the system they're on. If you see a bunch of games that interest you for the PSP (completely disregarding graphics), then go ahead. But if the only thing pushing you towards the PSP is the flashy graphics and sexy design, then wait on it.
Graphics get outdated, and quickly. Good gameplay does not.
Well said. Ultimately, it all comes down to games and gameplay -- not graphics. How else could GameBoy games have sold-through so well for so very, very long?
Sony has designed itself a sexy little system, but once the initial "wow" factor fades, it will come down to innovative, fun games -- something Nintendo has arguably proved best at. If Sony and its developers can meet the Big N head on, with genuine innovation, it could rule the portable world.
The reality of Sony's $40 and $50 games will also soon take the luster of an otherwise seemingly unstoppable PSP.
