Removing stickers from discs

I just got Umbrella Chronicles from Goozex, and the seller shipped me a former Family Video copy. It has a small sticker around the discs hole, and I was wondering if anyone had a remedy for removing this without damaging the disc/art. Thanks in advance!

Goo Gone works wonders. Just put a little bit on a soft cloth or paper towel and start slowly peeling back the label to get it working on the adhesive underneath.
 
alright, thanks for the ideas. I tried getting something off an ebay dvd last year, and think i used goo gone or something similar and it ended up fading the disc art, but maybe if im a little more careful
 
I used Goo Gone to remove a sticker from a game I got off of ebay. Worked really well, but be careful with it (just try not to spill everywhere).

I use to use it a lot for removing stickers off of game cases at EB.
 
Sounds like it's a sticker that's designed to not come off without destroying the disc? Good luck.

If you get Goo Gone on the disc artwork I think it will fade it just like it did before. That stuff is powerful.
 
On the disc itself!? WTF? I've never seen that, what a pain.

ON the cases, I just peel em off VERy slowly. If you do it slow enough, all the glue comes with it and you can get it all off w/ no problem. A fingernail works too when you get impatient or when you ahve a really tough/old sticker and all the glue doesn't come off.
 
a video chain in Canada does that too. Peel the sticker off and use contact cement remover to get the residue off
 
I've gotten 1 or 2 used from blockbuster that were like that. A little stain remover too it off without hurting the disc.
 
For something more gentle than Goo Gone, try Goop. It's a cream hand cleanser and it's far less caustic than products like Goo Gone or Goof Off. Definitely not as effective, but with a little elbow grease, it should do the job nicely and not damage the artwork on the disc.

Guess you never rented DC, PS1 or early PS2 releases from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video? They always put those stickers on the discs.

OP, be careful removing them. Sometimes parts of the sticker can't be removed without damaging the disc. Had a copy of Evil Dead for Dreamcast that became a coaster after the sticker took off the bootup section.
 
alright, problem taken care of. The majority came off and just left a little bit of stickiness. I used some slightly watered down Goo Gone which took care of that. Thanks for all the info from everyone, hopefully this thread can help a few others out as well who buy former rentals.
 
Putting stickers on a disc? I hope it's symmetric because discs spin at HIGH speeds. Something like that could throw it off balance and wreak havoc I would think. Kind of like a car tire out of balance. Just think of that going on at like 10,000 rpms inside your console. :hot:

That's exactly why stores stopped doing that. They were afraid that they would be liable for damaging people's consoles because of those stickers.

Didn't catch it until now in the OP that it was a Wii game. Sounds like whoever sent it to you has a weird FV. The games I've bought from them don't have stickers on the disc, they write "FMV" and the store number on the disc.
