replacing/fixing broken UMD cases?

Sinistar

CAGiversary!
Anyone know if this is possible? For some reason on my Tekken UMD the front clear part of the UMD came completely off of the rest of the casing.. Which is weird, because I hardly ever played Tekken or took it anywhere. i just wanted to play it the other day andI noticed it broke off. Is it safe to put it in the PSP like that or can I buy a new UMD case or superglue/tape it back on or something?

Thanks,

A friend of mine bought NBA when he first got his PSP. While I was over at his house I wanted to try NBA, so I took it out of it's PSP game case, but I noticed some weird oddities on the actual plastic of the UMD. I asked him, "What's this about?" and he replied, "Oh, I thought you had to take the actual disc out of the UMD casing so I had to crack it open. I went to put it into my PSP and it didn't seem right so then I read the instruction booklet. That's when I realized I'm an idiot and I had to superglue it back together."

Ok, well maybe that last part about him calling himself an idiot is true, but I could tell he felt real stupid at the time.

Anyway, about the game itself, believe it or not it actually worked after he superglued it back together. I'd be careful though.

I had to do that with my nephew's copy of Liberty City Stories, broke apart and I thought damn this thing is done. Got a demo disk and cracked it open, then put GTA in it's place. Didn't work, no matter how much I tried in two psps. For whatever reason I didn't throw it away and eventually found it under my bed, for shits and giggles I tried it again.......... and it worked. It just loads really load now. By pure luck it was also the version with 2.0 firmware

you can put the game in the psp without the clear front piece, it doesn't cause a problem.. most of my games have had that front piece come off, and it's hard to glue back in place too. But becareful, becuase if you put that game in and it's out of place, it can get in the way and cause the game not to load.. just takeit completely off, or try to snap it back in place by pushing from the silver plate at the bottom of the UMD, in the middle.

yeah butif you dont glue it and hold the PSP upside down, wont the UMD scrape off the inside of the UMD door?

OK I managed to find a demo disk to use as a replacemetn, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to crack it upen without breaking it.. any ideas? :)

I've always liked pulling them open from the little square cutout, but lately they seem to be sturdier and crack inward instead of at the seam. And yes, I have plenty of experience opening UMD cases. Don't ask.

don't worry leave the front clear plactic piece off of the umd.. it'll still play without it. but if you really really want to fix it.. then what I did was I hook a tooth pick, dipped it into some super glue and the rubbed around the edge of the front clear plastic piece and then I set it in place, held it for a while until the glue dried. becare not to get the glue on the disk. But like I said before you could just leave the piece off.

no because the umd is held in place by the umd drive, which makes it spin.

EBgames is licensed to use their own brand of UMD cases to replace UMD discs that are broken open. You may want to see if they can do it for you.

Hmm I called GameStop the other day and aksed them about it, the guy had no idea.. I guess. I can stop by EB Games after work and bring the games in and show them to them and see if they can fix 'em.

You should make a you tube video of how you take 'em apart. :p

I have a couple UMDs that have this problem, Tiger Woods being one of them. The ouside plastic will cave in and, if I don't notice it, will not spin at all. I end up having to take the UMD out, bend it the opposite way it's caved in and it'll eventually pop out. I'm sure the issue is tied directly to a lack of decent bonding agent and the small amount of heat that gets trapped in the UMD slot.

I'm bumping this because I'm pissed off... I take good care of my PSP games and I try to play them and they just don't spin. This time my problem is with Metal Slug Anthology and since that isn't a cheap game, I'm definitely going to spend time fixing it.
