Looking to get something put into my new car that isnt going to rape me. It appears that the installation is going to be the bitch that adds like $50 bucks to the price of anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not too picky on a brand but an HD tuner would be nice. No need for satellite compatibility.

Well, if you're looking for high quality, you should look into alpine or pioneer head units. otherwise, just head down to wal-mart or check amazon. I had my head-unit installed for 20 bucks, so you should definitely shop around if $50 is the best price you've gotten for installation. Sorry I cant be of more help, but you weren't exactly specific about what features you needed (auxiliary port, ipod/usb port, multiple disc changer, mp3 disc reader, etc).

That's because i don't need any of that :) I'm in my car a max of 20 minutes a day. 10 min to and from work.

And i've never seen a Walmart that installs...?

Sorry, I didn't mean to get your unit installed at walmart. what I meant was that walmart is probably your best bet at finding a decent head unit with basic features (radio, cd player) for less than $100.

As for finding a place to have it installed, your best bet for a low price would to be to look in your phone book and see which stores specialize in car audio installations. They're usually cheaper than large chain stores and most should also come with an installation warranty. Hope this helps.

Crutchfield is your best bet if you spend over $129.99. With that you get for free the mounting kit, wiring harness, and antenna adapter. If you buy from a chain store you will have to pay for all of that and for the instal. You will also chances are have some sort of other "shop fees" that will make the cost even higher. I suggest atleast ordering it from crutchfield then have someone else install it as depending on the car the mounting kit can cost atleast 50-80. That is if you don't want to install it on your own. If you do want to give it a try then order from them and do it yourself and save some of the othe rBS charges they will get you with.

Well i have a 09 Accent. Any idea how hard it would be to install myself? Keep in mind i have never attempted anything close to this before and there is no preexisting stereo in place now. The dealer did tell me that it is "stereo ready" and speakers are installed already as well.

I'm good with $130-150 if i can figure this shit out. Thanks guys for the input so far.

I was looking at $80 for the radio and $50 for install at best buy but i hate Geek Squad and would rather avoid them if possible. Especially if i can get a better set.

Went to Crutchfield and it looks like a great deal getting the mounting kits and free shipping, but everything is overpriced by $40 bucks... ho hum

Stereo installation isn't that hard if you actually have all the parts you need. Most head units come with general installation instructions or you can find the instructions on the manufacturers web site. Be careful though, because you could end up draining your battery constantly even when the car is turned off if you screw up.
Usually a wiring kit/harness will cost you about 20 dollars if it doesn't come with the unit (usually doesn't in my experience). If you plan on buying online make sure you check www.retailmenot.com to see if theres an applicable coupon for a store you're looking at.

Go here: http://www.hyundai-forums.com/index.php?showforum=3 and check out posts about stereo removal and to get some help. If your accent is anything like my elantra, it will be a breeze. It was only 4 screws to get the dash off and 4 screws to remove the stereo. I have bought all my stereos from Crutchfield because of the free installation extras they include. While the price might be a little more, but you will have everything to make it look like a pro job.

Thx guys went with a JVC KD-HDR50. Complete with mounting kit, wire harness and antenna adapter with 2nd day air for $160 shipped. Would have cost me $210 out the door at Frys.
