I would bet that there aren't more than 2 of these nationwide. Best Buy had been clearancing stuff out for a year or so. Most of the good stuff (and there were only a few music stores in BB to start with) is LOOOOONG gone... I bought most of it around here.

From zero frets to as many as make sense . But most common are 21, 22 & 24

You should be fine with 22 frets. OG RS had 1-2 songs that went up to 22, but only for a couple of notes

Not sure if any DLC hangs out any higher

I think the Radiohead song in the game goes up to 23/24 frets if I'm not mistaken but you don't get penalized if you don't play those notes. I'd say aim for at least 22.

I use D'Addarios, in 10's, most of the time. Also use GHS Boomers and Ernie Ball Slinkys.

Haven't noticed too much tonal differance between them, so I stock up on D'Addarios whenever I see the 10-packs go on sale. That's the bulk of my stockpile .

Hell, I'll try any brand of string if it's priced right just to see if there's anything that really blows me away.

I had signed up for the HelloMusic string club and those strings were fine at first. But would start to sound tinny after a couple of weeks. I think the brand was Markleys, but not sure.

You may want to see if Guitar Center still has their string club going. I forget the details but it would be a cool way to experiment with a bunch of different brands

If you have a GC near you, follow rbarba4's advice and join the string club. You will get $60 worth of strings for $20. You can sample different brands and sizes until you find something you like. Also, stretch the strings before you put them on and clean your guitar after each use.

UPDATE: Got it home and gave it a test run and this thing is like butter! I can't believe how big a piece of shit I was learning on in comparison. I drastically improved my scores on all three songs I tested. Finally got over 100% mastery on Gold on the Ceiling, taking me up to two songs with 100+%.

Not really, they said it had some scratches and chips. When I contacted them about it they said it didnt say it was clean in the description and that its the first thing they have sold on ebay before. Honestly I dont know what to do since I got it for around 500. Partly its my fault because the pictures in the auction kind of sucked and that should have been a good warning sign. I feel like they misrepresented it by omitting how bad it really was and taking pictures that were not too revealing. It got knocked around some during shipping because they said it was newly set up and played great, but when I got it the bridge pick up was at an angle and touching the strings. I was able to lower it but its still sitting at an angle. Is it worth keeping and fixing up or should I just get a different model MIM tele new for around the same price. This one is out of production and I think the msrp was 1200 so it probably cost around 800 new? I'm still thinking about what to do next. I might take it into a shop and see if they think I got ripped off or how much they would charge to clean/polish and set up the guitar and replace the gross looking hardware. Is it normal for Fender screws to corrode easily or was this thing stored in wet basement? Its one of those situations where I dont know if I want to fight with the guy that sold it to get a partial refund or just do a return through ebay.

They probably found the guitar in some storage locker and thought they struck gold. And that whole story of being setup prior to shipping is BS. They were willing to ship it with the other crap so they were fine shipping it with the borked pickup.

This is why ebay sucks sometimes and everyone recommends you only buy a guitar that you can hold in your hands. I just prefer shopping for a deal and you win some and you lose some too

Hmmmm... I think you'd have a good case for misrepresentation, being that there are all the other issues. I mean - they had a set up done, but weren't concerned about the rust? I have 6 Fenders - 2 that are 10-15 years old and I have not one shred of rust or anything. Of course, they are all in SKB cases every moment that I am not playing them, but still. There shouldn't be any rust. Just me - I'd take the fight through eBay. But I'm a stickler about my guitars. I'd think that "saving" $300 or so on a guitar that now you're gonna have to sink money in to just to get it to be acceptable isn't really saving...

I mean - if you REALLY, REALLY wanted this John 5 Tele, then by all means, see what the guitar shop tells you, but I wouldn't keep it.

Agreed. I definitely think their defense of "we didn't say it was "clean" anywhere on the listing" is just bullcrap. You can (and should) fight them on this one. Get your money back and buy from a different seller. I wouldn't accept a rusted out old guitar like that if I were you.

Since it's my first time playing, not surprised but I want to know if there is an easier way to ease the pain/build the callus so I can play better. Probably going to take some time (couple days) to not even play the game, just bend the guitar so I can develop the callus.

The only real tip I can give is just keep playing. I'd also say use a GripMaster to build the finger and hand strength so you don't tire easily.

Do ytou have the original RS songs? My tip is to play "Good Enough" over and over and over... Seriously - the bends lessons will toughen your fingers up most of all. Just keep playing. If it hurts too much, stop for a while. In a week, you'll have glorious callouses and it won;t hurt anymore.

Sweet Emotion and Dream On are the only ones worth playing me thinks, but I'll skip it for now. Not shelling out 2.99 per song for those. I really wish they would start doing sales again on DLC.

To the guy who asked about calluses: It's just something you're going to develop over time. My tip is to play 1 or 2 hours per day and stop. Your fingers will hurt at that point, so just let them heal up and play again the next day. Eventually they'll get tougher. Make sure you don't overdo it.

If you look around, you ought to be able to find a copy of the original game for $10 or less, probably easier than manipulating a save file, I would think. Just my two cents.

You just ain't looking in the right places. Wal Mart had the original RS without bass for $19.99 and it comes with a cable... If you need an extra cable. I think 2 of the 4 Wal Marts around here still have copies, so they;re not exactly rare.
