Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Yeah I signed up too, but for a 30-45 minute class I dunno how much will actually be taught, especially to tinkerer types like myself that can wire guitars better than I can play them.

Worldmusicsupply has some really black superstrat/metal style guitars with high end pickups (your choice of Duncans or EMGs) for 300 bucks, down from 400. The Duncan version has already been set up since it's their final stock taken from their storefront. Sorry I can't link, posting from phone.

If anybody can use 20% off at musicians friend feel free to use this unique code GA323607. Good for any single item $49 & up. Good til 09/17

The gamestop sale for Rocksmith was suppose to end but it's still $50 online. YMMV on the in-store price.
And Target's in-store price is $60. So they didn't quite follow the website price I saw the other day.

Now, who wants a Fender that isn't a "Fender". Hello Music has the G&L Fiorano GTS Tribute for $299
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15716
I dig it, but kinda an odd duck for the brand. Normally sells around 550, so a healthy drop for a really good brand.

Demo+history vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h_IFKVcUVk
Final 1/3 of vid gets into the Fiorano model. But the first 1/3 gives a history lesson on the origins of the design

Ah, sooo many guitars. Not enough money... or time... or talent:drool:

Hey Psybuster, guessing these are the two you mentioned

SD pups http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Washburn-XMPRO2USDPB-Set-Neck-Electric-Guitar-Pearl-Black.html

That G&L looks like a Schecter C1...superstrat shape with Gibson hardware

And yeah, those Washburns are the ones. I can't get over how black they are...lol

Here are some random finds from other websites.

J. Backlund Design Guitars launched a Kickstarter project for a unique line of guitars? You can look for the post on the RS forums or just go to the kickstarter page
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...project-by-j-backlund-design-guita?ref=search

American Musical has the Fender g-dec3 Thirty for $150. Only a few hours left
http://www.americanmusical.com/RSS_Feeds/Ndnd.aspx

And someone on SD found that you can preorder the new disc version of Rocksmith for a discount from buy.com
Read that post for the specifics

I broke down and bought a cheap bass because I've always wanted one to tinker around on. I ended up with an ESP LTD B50 ($199 everywhere)... and this thing is freaking amazing! I can't put it down. I bought it from an Amazon seller named "ElectricGuitar." They shipped it extremely well and surprisingly did a pretty good job setting it up. I can't believe this $200 bass sounds this good.

I think the bass DLC is more than worth it for how much entertainment I'm getting out of it, even though the CAG in me will hate it a little if/when it eventually goes on sale for $15. But screw it, I couldn't wait... and I'm glad I didn't.

Being a cag is good, but losing time in the name of a few dollars when you want something is never worth it IMO. If you're actually playing it right away then its totally worth the price.

As for that kickstarter...lol. preordering a guitar without any known specs seems like
a godawful idea.

There are no specs, but there is info on the page and In the video.
"Retronix is a new line of affordable instruments from J Backlund Design Guitars."

So basically I assume that Retronix is going to be somewhat comparable to Squire or Epiphone in quality. One thing for sure is the country of manufacture: Korea. So they might be a little higher quality than some budget guitars on the market.

Another thing they said in the video is that they would have a retail price of $1000-1250 based on color & options. Based on my guitar shopping, my guess is that non-sale prices of these will probably be somewhere around $400-600. So if you are absolutely in love with the looks of them and you want early access to it, you will probably be safe at a $500 pledge. For the rest of us, we can probably get one on sale a little ways down the road. Just remember that this is a budget, I mean affordable, guitar line and the quality will likely reflect that.

I agree that if you really, really like the looks of this then preordering may not be a bad idea, because aesthetics do count for quite a bit IMO and you're not going to get something like this anywhere else, but I'm not going to kid myself here: I'm interested in buying guitars, not labor. I don't care if it's made in America, Japan, Mexico, Korea, China, Indonesia, or India; individual product quality at a realistic price matters more than anything else, and it becomes apparent when you run into $2000 Gibsons that still have sharp frets. In almost every case regarding quality it's a matter of how much money/time the parent company is willing to spend on creating a better product; there's absolutely nothing that makes an American guitar factory worker inherently superior than an Asian one; the latter is just not given as much training or time and is expected to mass produce, thus giving the appearance of them being "crappy" workers.

That being said, 545 (after overpriced shipping) is still a lot to plop down on something you won't get for another 6 months when you can buy a brand new Agile AL-3000/3100 for nearly a Benjamin less after shipping right now and those are incredibly decked out for what they cost. Complete with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee where all you're really losing out on is shipping costs if you really don't like it and want to return it. Maybe these guys will offer the same, but the details are all still missing at the moment.

The MF Stupid deal of the day is for the ESP-ltd Viper 256 guitar @ $200
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=200510
Description doesn't state it but the pickups look to be p90s.

EDIT: a couple of Hello music deals to mention
First they have an Ibanez semi-hollow guitar for $295+free shipping (model AM73B)
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15723
And next they have a 3-pack set of Dean Markley vintage strings for $9+free shipping
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15694&cat=ACCESSORIES

EDIT#2: channel surfing and saw the black & red bass (from the BB deal) getting played during a Fallout Boy show. Only this model had air jordan holding a guitar in place of the bat logo. That woulda been cool

Congrats man!

I'm itchin to get going on bass, but still have plenty to do on guitar. So hopefully I improve enough by November (my 1 year anniversary of playing). And if I'm lucky, there'll be a discount on the new disc

And about the Kickstarter guitars, this wiil be good if you dig it. J Backlund only do custom guitars and this is their attempt to bring their prices down for everyone who can't drop a few G's on a guitar. But they still want to create something that they can be proud of even though it's outsourced. So this first run isn't really gonna make them money. Think they also said they've contracted with a specific Korean factory that 's developed a good reputation for their craftsmanship

This is pretty much a test-run to see what they can do and if it can succeed. Who knows, you might end up with a collector's item.

There's a massive thread on HC that you can skim, but looks like there are some set specs: bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, dual humbuckers (4wire), 5way switch (figure there's either a coil-tap or coil-split). At least I think that was all mentioned in the HC thread; had a few different windows open at the time

My local Target is clearing out a couple of guitar-to-iphone/ipad cables.
I grabbed the Griffin version @ $9.28
dpci#057-00-1530
Also saw the irig version but it was at $30 something. Figured I'd chance the griffin version and return it if it doesn't work.

And one new update on those Kickstarter guitars. They hit their goal and as a thanks to all backers of this project, they're going to offer future guitar projects at the same $500 price of this promo regardless of what the future price may be.

Pretty cool offer, especially if they ever make that red & cream semi-hollow LP:drool:. I would instantly sign up if they would confirm that guitar as their next project

Bought. I was more excited for this pack than any songs since Three Days Grace popped up for DLC!!!

Thanks for the tip, just picked up two of the Griffin models in case one of them breaks since that's still much less than the IRIG version (which was listed for $37 at the Target I went to). Amazon reviews were mixed (many 5 star, several 1 star...mostly for breaking).

Surprised that nobody in this thread or in the Best Buy deal if the day thread mentioned the Ernie Ball Wah pedal for $40. I would have picked it up but but it was sold out by the time I found out about it.

Yeah. It would be a HELL of a deal if the correct guitar ships out. That's usually a grand.

I picked up one of those Griffin units at Target today for 9.xx. Thanks, rbarb4, for that heads up. I'll watch the iRig, too. I think they'll be around at 70%. Most people don't know what the hell they are.

Yea, all the comments about receiving the wrong one are from Music123 being the seller. From what I read elsewhere, Amazon then dropped the price to match it(even though they were matching the wrong model). They only had a few in stock, but those lucky people got them already and it was the right one.

So all depends if Amazon restocks or not - my guess is probably not, but worth a shot.

In the review section someone said they got the wrong one in the comments of the amazon review one, but didn't specify if it was amazon or music123? . Can you tell us where you got the other info?

Didn't learn anything all that useful from the Guitar Center seminar thing, got a free set of strings though, only two people were there including myself and I still lost the free setup raffle :(

I didn't really learn anything either, but I did enjoy myself. At first the guy didn't seem happy to do it but he warmed up after a bit and actually wound up being pretty cool. During the seminar I had some questions about setup issues with a couple of my guitars. At the end I had to remind the guy about the free setup raffle. He was going to write our names & drop them in a hat but one of the guys stepped up & said it sounded like I needed it so he wouldn't compete. After this the one other guy in attendance agreed and said I could just have it. Score! The GC guy wrote my name & number on a pad & wrote "free setup from seminar" next to it. Should I be worried that I won't get it or is that enough?

Well, less than a month to go for the PC release of Rocksmith (plus the new disc version for 360 & ps3). But here's an update on pricing for the current versions:
--$40 at Toys R Us online. Free ship for orders over 50 or free in-store pickup
--$50 at just about every other store: Bestbuy, Gamestop, walmart, target.
Of course if you've waited this long, might as well wait to see what happens to prices when the new disc hits the street.

Had another Target clearance find as well. This time it's for the ION Piano Apprentice for $20.98 (70% off). Good for ipad, iphone, ipod
DPCI#057-00-1510
Know it's not guitar related, but you'll probably appreciate it if you've been going at it on guitar

One last mention of the Kickstarter guitars since there's only two days left to get in. They've posted another update to provide info on the specs for the guitar build.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...itar-project-by-j-backlund-design-guita/posts
And it looks like someone checked their couch for loose change cuz they went ahead and pledged for the 10k reward:hot:. Playa in da house:cool:

So far so good on the Griffin guitar cable. Used it with a couple of apps and worked without a hitch. Gonna try a few others and if all checks out, I'll see about grabbing another. Always have my phone on me so this would be a real convenient way to get some offline practice in. Might start stashing guitars at places I park it for long periods of time

Now for a few guitar deals.
The MF Stupid Deal of the Day is for the Rogue Rocketeer guitar @ $60
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=200510
Only about 6 hours left before it expires
Amazon has another Kalos guitar bundle for $65 (this time in black)
http://www.amazon.com/Kalos-1EG-MBK...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1348529142&sr=1-2
Amazon also has an AXL guitar for lefties @ $113
http://www.amazon.com/AXL-Headliner...al-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1348529236&sr=1-66
And Hello Music has an ESP XJ-6 japanese custom guitar (sparkle red) @ $698
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15745
Pretty sure I posted a similar deal early in the year. IIRC, these were originally made for the Japanese market only. Don't remember for sure (and too lazy to search tonight)

Rbarb4 - are you playing in an app like Songsterr or one of those? I want to try one, I just haven't yet. Saw that the iRigs dropped to 50% today. I'll probably grab one at 20 and hope there's still one there at 70% off to buy and return on the old receipt.

Guitar center's weekly in-store deal is for the Deltalab flanger pedal @ $30
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Big-Cool-Deal-g25903t0.gc

And Music123 has the deluxe Rogue Rocketeer guitar in their weekly sale for $100. Choose between sunburst or silverburst
http://www.music123.com/pages/123Deals

EDIT: Just saw that Hellomusic has a couple blowout deals (for them). Remember seeing the You Rock midi guitar for 110 and the BC rich masterpiece guitar for 210 as well as a few different pedals.
Links will hafta wait until I get on a real computer. Ipad keeps reloading pages, making it a real pain to copy the links. But you can see the stuff under the 2 "biggest sale of the Year" tabs
EDIT2: ok, here are the HM links
You Rock guitar @ 110 http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=13956&cat=PROMO
BC Rich guitar @ 210 http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=14900&cat=EDUCATION
ESP-ltd H330nt strat @ 258 http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15629&cat=PROMO
Dean hillsboro j-bass @ 198 http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15743&cat=PROAUDIO
Fender standard p-bass @ 459 http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15732&cat=PROAUDIO
The guitars have shown up before at higher prices. Pretty sure I found some reviews on that ESP so you can look for that old post for the links

So far, I've tested out Garageband, iShred(this one's mentioned in the Griffin packaging), Rock prodigy, Fast tune and Miso(this was a holdover from when I bought the Woodees cable-piece of junk)

The Miso app is the only one that has given any problems, but I feel it's due to it being a poor app. Turned the in-app sensitivity up on that one and finally got it to respond.

All the other ones have worked smoothly. Songsterr looks cool. Just too cheap to get at this time with all these other things that I've already got to mess with

Finally broke down and purchased the Dean- Michael Amott Tyrant Bloodstorm guitar. I should have acted sooner. It went from "in-stock" to "ships in 9-11 weeks" to "ships in 2-6 MONTHS". I guess I'll know if it was a good decision by early April. I guess that gives me plenty of time to save and/or change my mind

Have a issue with the game. We'll more with the drop d tuning on some songs. Seems the game just refuses to catch the upper seven frets. Mostly ignored the songs so far. Now I am trying to get the unlock songs. It's really making me frustrated knowing I am playing right and having the game just ignore me.

Drop D is finicky in the game. In most cases, it's 1 of 2 things - intonation is a little off or you're fretting too hard. If you watch the indicators, you can always detune a little up or down to see if that helps.

WMS has some ESP-LTD models on sale at $150 each
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/m_dept.aspx?dept_id=16&mfg_id=1200000042

WTH, I went for it. They're suppose to be by Dean Markley. Worth it to try out a different brand and easy enough to cancel if they suck

Hello music has a Dean Vendetta XM in satin natural today for $80... $20 off of a $150 purchase is code FIRSTTIME20 - if you can find something else you like to add :) Nice looking axe for $80.

Guitar Center is holding ukelelee classes every Saturday, at 10am I think.
Got an email about it a bit back but forgot until I saw a sign in-store today. Asked if you had to already have your own uke and they said they'll let you borrow an in-store model.

I've been wanting to mess around with uke's for a while. So this would be a free way to see if you like it.

And looked thru my Musicians Friend catalog. Back cover has a deal for the Schecter Hellraiser Deluxe at $350, normally 550(ymmv on getting other coupons to stack).
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...raiser-deluxe-with-maple-neck-electric-guitar
Not quite the Schecter deal Amazon had last year but pretty close and this one has proper fret markers and a maple neck+fretboard. Maybe that's worth the extra dough to ya;)

Looks like the XMT model, aka the model talked about waaay back at the beginning of the thread. Nice find, especially since stores nuked coupon usage on Deans
Zzounds.com has a couple good deals going on right now. Kramer Assault 220 (copper metallic only) $169.95 I highly recommend this guitar for this price. I have quite a few more expensive and "better" guitars but this is my primary guitar for Rocksmith.
Kramer 422S Striker Bass $179.00. I can't speak for its quality, but it goes for $330 on other sites
Price on those two should stay the same for the week. They're both listed in the weekly email.
The Assault220 is pretty cool just a little too similar to something I already have. Would probably bite if they do the same with the 211

And if it isn't obvious, don't have as much free time nowadays to post. Barely have time to look at the threads. So if ya see something, POST IT!:)

Good to know! I just picked up a vintage Tempo uke from Goodwill last week for $2, but really don't know much about them.

Did the uke class and not too bad for what was about 30min.

It was done in one of the soundproof rooms. GC DOES provide you a uke for the class. My instructor asked what experience we had with uke or guitar and went from there as to how simple or complex he made explanations. By the end of class learned where to strum, couple diff ways to strum, 4 chords, the chord progression for 2 songs and you play those two songs while the instructor sings the song. Best part is holding & making real music with it. Much better than plinking around with no real direction. Gives you a good sense of whether or not you want to keep at it

Good experience, at least for me. Class is the same every Saturday, so you can go again but you'll cover the same stuff. There was one dude taking it again to have more practice strummin and chord changes as well as learnin the songs.

By the way saw this the other day. Pretty awesome to get that outta a uke

Yeah - yesterday they had this listed as the 15H in the description. They changed it... And raised the price.
Didn't know that. Woulda been better if they had stayed with the 15watt model. HM's been sucking wind for the last few months. Maybe things'll improve after the holidays.

Most Rocksmith game deals are the same, but there are a couple minor changes. Amazon and Walmart each have the
iconxbox360.gif
at $42 and the
iconps3.gif
at $45. And the lowest price out there is still Toys R Us at $40.

Next, someone at SD noticed that Rondo has some SE versions of the Agile3010 guitars at $300, bit lower than the standard 3000 series
http://www.rondomusic.com/newitems.html
You can use the links in the OP to learn more about Agile guitars

And pretty big news on Rocksmith DLC. They're gonna release three massive song packs at a discount, for each.
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/718055-Holy-DLC-Batman!!!?
But looks like it'll only be for PC users. Here's hoping they give us console owners some love
----- ----- ----- -----
On a personal note, almost definetely gonna get a uke. Can't stop thinking about it since going to the class. Just a matter of choosing a model and showing some patience to order thru ukerepublic. They seem to setup the uke before shippin'em out. The costco model is a good starter but obviously no pro setup

If anyone is near a Sears, they have put :360:Rocksmith on clearance for $29.97. It was part of the October price drops. Not sure about the :ps3: version.

Also just noticed the dollar strings on Hello Music are 3 bucks/month after the initial order...lame. I can get D'Addario 3-packs for a little less than that per set from Amazon subscribe and save.

HEY PC fanboys;), you finally get your very own version of Rocksmith. Remember you still need the real-tone RS cable to play. By the way, it includes bass content. Consoles also get an updated disc which includes bass, but current price is 80

And SD had a deal on an offset Jackson "v" guitar which is now dead. BUT the coupon code is valid on a Jackson strat w/tremolo. Coupon brings the price down to $127
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/search.aspx?si=&sp=jackson+js22
Coupon code: rocknrhodes (knocks 103 off the price)

Nice find. Honestly expected this price to have happened a while back just so they burn thru the old discs prior to the new disc

No new DLC songs, but they did release a bunch of DLC packs. The mega-song packs are made up of existing DLC songs: Classic hits, Alternative rock, Classic guitar. The mega-packs save you a buck per song over buying'em individually. Best part is that they're available for the console, not just PC (like I first thought).
Xbox link -- http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Rocksmith/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80255530873

There are also other DLC packs which look to be unlock codes for the venues, bonus songs, etc.

And while not a direct deal on the new version of RS, you can get a $50 giftcard for buying two $60 games thru ToysRUs. I caved:). As I see it, paid 30 for the bass and 30 for an extra cable. Good enough for me:bouncy:. Now do I bother trying to sell my old copy or be nice and donate to a charity

Can't wait to finally give bass a go. Just gonna speedrun Dishonored and see if it'sworth keeping or flipping for quick credit
