Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Empire at War is a GREAT game. I love it!! There are little touches that make it fascinating... But I love the space battles the most.

I don't play online though, so I don't know about that. :whistle2:(

WOW - A Railroads fan? I remember the 1st one he put out, I LOVED it. Meiers really knows how to make games!!!
1- You shouldn't play RPG's with a controller
?
KOTOR was released for the original xbox, and it worked well with the controller.

That Heroes pack is just too good of a deal to pass up. I haven't really kept up with the series after III but for $5 with Dark Messiah I don't really care if it lacks to soul of the new King's Bounty games.
Does KOTOR support the 360 controller? and does it work on Windows 7?
No controller support. And it works on Windows 7. There's some thread on the forums on how to get it to work on Win7, but I didn't have to do anything to get it working. YMMV? Seemed like an easy fix if it didn't work though, I was all ready to do it when I purchased it and to my surprise I didn't need to do anything.
For those that played Back to the Future, was it worth the playthrough?
I own it and loved it. The spirit of the original movies are there, and the dialog is also generally in the spirit of the movies. There's a lot of backstory that covers the lore of BttF nicely. It's not a hard game at all, but the intention behind BttF: The Game has always been to make it enjoyable for all fans and entertain them, not beat them over the head with The Longest Journey difficulty (which, by the way, is a total gem - buy it during the sale, too :D). I for one am glad they made this design decision since it makes for a pleasant atmosphere and good times.

Go for it! It's half off and really, truly lovingly made.
Heads up to anyone even remotely interested in DMC4...Best Buy is selling it in a bundle with Lost Planet and Dead Rising for $10.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Capcom+...%20pack&lp=1&cp=1&ref=39&CJPID=1312731&loc=01
I was going to buy that pack because I have been wanting to play DMC4 but since I waited so long I figured I could wait for it to hit $10. I played Dead Rising and have Lost Planet on steam so I am just going to buy it for $10 on steam.
Anyone recommend the Just Cause 2 DLC?
On one hand, they're hardly required DLC's as they don't add additional game story but just a few neat guns and vehicles. On the other, some of them seem kind of neat to have as an option when you use your beacon (I'm looking at the hovercraft ; reminds me one of Jackie Chan's movie xD) and they're dirt cheap (a grand total of $2.23 for all of the DLC's). It's really your call if you want to "pimp" your game up.

Personally, I use the "Everything Unlocked & Available Through the Black Market" mod. It slightly cheapens your experience since the mod reduces the prices of everything to free or near free. However, since you usually have to cover a lot ground to get from one area to the next in JC2, it's very helpful to be able to call down a free jet plane.

Or if you want to avoid the Black Market mod, you could just install the "Increased Grapple Range & Speed" mod which will help you get from one point to the next a lot faster. I haven't used this mod personally, but it got decent votes among the community.

And modding Just Cause 2 is extremely easy since you just have to drag-n-drop a few files into a folder (or two). Easiest modding experiences I've had (compared to, say, Fallout 3; which could be a total nightmare).

Nice, I've wanted Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for a long time, so getting it + another game for $5 is pretty damn good.

Nothing else I'm interested in today. Tempted by Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Empire at War, but I'll probably end up passing on it.

That has got to be a pricing error, the MM V with just the game and 3 xpacks is 23 bucks, this one is only 5 with dark messiah also
Hmm, i have never played a Heroes game. Can anyone compare it to some other games out there? Looks like a terrific value.
The only other games that I've played that I can reasonably compare Heroes to is Disciples (namely Disciples II since that's the only one I've played) and, to an extent, King's Bounty.

Heroes is basically a turn-based RPG game. You have resources that you use to train troops and manage your town. All the while, in the map view, you have limited movement spaces per turn that you use to move around to map to find enemies or secure resources. During battle, it's all still turn-based. You and your enemies' army take turns duking it out on a battlefield. It has been a while since I've played a Heroes game, so my memory's a bit fuzzy.

A video may give you a better idea of what the game's like :

Yeah, it's an utter steal. I keep thinking it must be an error, too. Probably not. But if you're gonna get it, it's probably smart to do so asap just in case.
does every steam game have achievements? still sorta new to this steam and may end up converting to a pc gamer for the most part
No, not every steam game has achievements. Which is a shame. I couldn't care less about them; but I know a lot of people do.

Every new release Valve game has them, and a good majority of Xbox 360 ports have them. But there are still many that don't.
does every steam game have achievements? still sorta new to this steam and may end up converting to a pc gamer for the most part
No. Achievements came around 2008-2009 for steam and a lot of publishers/devs wont add them into older games which I don't blame them. A lot of newer games do have them though.

Thanks. I appreciate the straight answer instead of the whole "Don't use a controller" bullshit I seem to find all over the internet. Think I might avoid it, not big on Keyboard/mouse stuff, especially with this laptop's touchpad being slightly iffy. Thanks again.

2nd day of Summer Sale definitely not for me. C'mon STEAM we need a good price! Just Cause 2 for $5, GTA classic for $7.49, Dungeons, DMC4, KOTOR? We already got that price from the another DD service sale already during the few week back.
But yeah thanks for The Railworks price cut! Thats the only game that I'm gonna buy this day.

Man, I am trying to practice what I preach and legitimately buy games that I obtained via other means...

So I grabbed civ V for $10 and activated it on steam, and grabbed Oblivion yesterday. This sale is going to hurt in such a good way!

Will grab Dark Messiah for $2.50. Have heard the game was awful at release but that it was fixed soon after.

Thanks for this info! I'm probably just going to get the weapon DLCs and the hovercraft/aerial pack. Who needs cars when you've got jets/helicopters/hovercraft?
Does anyone recommend Just Cause 1 if I loved the second? Has it aged well?
Just stick with the sequel; The first was pretty bad.

FYI: Just Cause 2 is TOTALLY worth the $4.99. I picked it up for the same price on D2D about a month ago and have been playing it daily. It will also run in a very modest computer.

It ran VERY well (1600x900, mix of high and med settings) on my old computer:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
4GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon 5770 1GB
Vista 32 Bit

Anyways, doesn't look like I'll be picking up much today except for the JC2 DLC and the Shogun 2 DLC.

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1753/

The individual bits are now properly priced at $2.50 in the package so it was just the usual Steam Sale pricing lag.

Not like it matters though as Valve tends to honor pricing mistakes and I've already paid.

I just wish that Valve weren't dirty liars with their sales as they tend to never mention the extra $50-$100 you'll be spending on extra hard drives.;)

I'm considering Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II for $9.99. It seems like I've heard pretty much universal hate for it, but I really enjoyed the demo on my 360. Anyone have any input?

Gah Steam is killing me, got the Heros pack because thats too much awesome for $5 to pass up. Considering DMC 4, The force unleash II, Battlefront 2, and Just Cause 2 + DLC. I need to see if I can trim that down a little. Don't wanna blow my budget today XD

Has anyone else noticed the GTA classics collection contains the GTA classics collection? If someone bought it, does that mean you're getting infinitely recursive copies of the games?

Is anyone else finding that the timer on the home page is completely jacked? It's always counting down from some random number under 10 minutes. Just now it counted down 5 seconds left in the sale, then when it hit zero it jumped up to 20 seconds left an began counting down again from there.

I had to bite on the SW: Empires at War pack as well as the MMV $4.99 pack. That is just *insane* for the price. Thanks for the heads up on the latter, folks!

It's not so much that it's a bad game? It's moreso that, well, it's short. Very short. 5-6 hours absolute tops. In addition:

- The levelling up system is pretty dumbed down. At least it felt that way to me, and felt like there was less customization than in the original Force Unleashed.

- There were a few levels that had random "OMG KEEP RUNNING OR DIE" segments. Annoying to me, but then again I have mental issues dealing with blatantly cheap instakills.

- The plot is pretty bad. It feels like an unnecessary addition to the Force Unleashed plotline, rather than a genuinely new and exciting story. (As per the original)

+ It's very pretty. Very very pretty.

If you enjoyed the first game, then I imagine you would enjoy this one. $10 seems fairly reasonable, but I for one wouldn't pay more than that.
Can't be any worse than the first, *shudder*
Oh, but it can. It really can. :C
Actually, the engine is fairly refined from the first one. So less (bad/sluggish) physics and controls. But that's about all the second beats the first one on. First wins on pretty much everything else.
Any opinions on The Heroes Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/HeroesSale)? I enjoyed Heroes of M&M 2 and 3 back in the days.
If you liked Heroes 2 and 3, it's probably a safe bet to say you'd enjoy 5. Try a demo if you need to, but I found 5 very solid. (Coming from a background of growing up on 2 and 3)
Can't be any worse than the first, *shudder*
Yeah I actually take that back, this one is perfectly playable while the first one is the craptastic port!

I liked TFU but didn't care for the second at all. It was shorter than the first and you spend the whole game switching between the same few locations.

The only improvement in TFU2 is probably the fact that it didn't take up 25 GB of hard drive space like the first.
Yeah I actually take that back, this one is perfectly playable while the first one is the craptastic port!
Out of curiosity, what about the first one's port is so bad? I'd been thinking about grabbing it on PC at some point and playing with a gamepad. Is the port really any worse than the native console version?
does the heroes pack use secure rom? anyone?????
http://steamdrm.flibitijibibo.com/the-big-drm-list/ says no.

So is the force unleashed II not worth it? I know its short and the story is supposed to be kinda meh, but the games not any fun at all?
