Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
I'm not taking the time to make out a list, but my total steam library has gone from just under 300 titles before black friday to 450 even today. Yeah...
I have 175 and my friends think I'm nuts....
Wanted to take a sec to recommend both Sid Meier's Raildroads! and Pirates! at 2.49 each. If you think you may be into either of these games I can just about guarantee you will get your money's worth.
Anyone care to weigh Sid Meier's Railroads vs. Rail Road Tycoon 3? I'm buying it more for my Dad, who is into trains than for me ... but I've read that Sid Meier's is a bit more kiddish? Of course, people are also saying RRT 2 is better than 3 ... but I'd rather get something 3D. Thoughts?

Thinking about picking up G-Mod for 4.99...always wanted it but never bit. Might do it now lol. Unless it's been cheaper than that, anyone know?
Just got it also look really cool.
nice!!! that's what I thought too checked out gameplay looked like fun and can't beat the price.

Sadly, the Holiday Bonus deals only apply during their first appearance; Holiday Bonus discounts don't reappear on encore days.

I imagine that, if you wait a few more months, there will be a $4.99 Midweek or Weekend deal on Amnesia. If not, perhaps there will be a deal during the Summer Sale. (If there is going to be one this year.)

Since I started buying Steam games during last year's holiday sale, I've spent about $180 and gotten over 40 games. I don't see how anyone can deny the potential of direct downloads with this kind of cost effectiveness.

ah, ok thanks. well it's only 2 bucks. such a big discount already, so ill gift it to my friend (im too chicken shit to play it myself) :p

My pick-ups:

Indie Adventure Pack
Indie Fright Pack

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP + SoC

Winterbottom

Indie Fantasy Pack

Swords and Soldiers HD

The Ball

Crysis Complete

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

A little over $40 overall, but good deals on all of em.
False info people. The Ubisoft Always On Internet DRM is still there, with every 5 min check (Jan-1-2011)

Check this recent post on Steam
The only thing this does for me is make me want to obtain games that have no DRM whatsoever. Obtain. No DRM.

My (likely) final haul:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - $7.50
FEAR Complete Pack - $10
Prince of Persia 2008 - $5
Overlord Complete Pack (already had Overlord but not DLC or sequel) - $3
Rush - $1.70
Dead Space - $7.50
The Ball - $5
Greed Corp - $2.50
Half-Life 1 Anthology - $2.25
Indie Fright Pack - $5
STALKER bundle (already had SoC) - $5

Total: $54.45

Around 16 games in total not counting DLC/expansions. Oh and I also got $2.50 worth of DLC for Just Cause 2 at 50% off as well. Considered getting Star Wars Republic Commando but would have liked it cheaper and reports of people having difficulty in getting a widescreen hack working in some cases held me off. Still thinking about it though.

Big thanks to EastX and everyone who contributed to the thread with their opinions, the Steam holiday sale wouldn't be half as enjoyable without CAG.
See you all next sale!

Does anybody know why steam doesn't have Hitman 3 contracts on there library?

And does anyone know if there are any plans to bring The Sims games to steam?

Loki
Numen: Contest of Heroes
Blood Bowl: Dark Elves Edition
Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes
Zeno Clash
Guardians of Graxia Game and Map Pack
Shatter
Left 4 Dead 2
Greed Corp
Swords and Soldiers HD
Crysis Complete (NA)
Rush
SimCity 4 Deluxe
Mount and Blade: Warband
Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum
Star Wars: KOTOR
Divinity II - Dragon Knight Saga
King Arthur Pack
Mass Effect 2

$105.35 - Should be good until this time next year.

Mine:

Bad Company 2
Deus Ex Pack
Lara Craft & GoL
Half Life Anthology (for $3-ish how could I skip this?)
Overlord Pack
Star Wars KOTOR
Amnesia
Polynomial
Misadventures of PB Winterbottom

Although I actually only paid for BC2, Amensia, HL Anthology and Overlord pack, kind friends gifted me the other stuff.

I also gifted my friend PvZ, though I'm thinking of picking it up for myself. That and Hitman blood money. Would anyone want to trade my CoD Black Ops Flight suit avatar code + Halo Reach recon helmet code for one of those? ;)

Didn't go too crazy this sale, as most games I'd either wait on or already have them on Steam/360.

Super Meat Boy
Puzzle Quest
Fear: Ultimate Shooter Edition
Overlord
Amnesia
Greed Corp.
Plants vs Zombies

Not bad for $19.75. Actually, for the addiction I have just received for PvZ, I would have paid that much for just that game.

For the Steam sale, I stuck with the Indie Kids Pack, the Indie Fantasy Pack, and the Indie Brain Pack. $15 for 15 games is pretty sweet, as I'm sure we're all aware. A friend gifted me Spore, so I have a nice little backlog of treats in my Steam account to play. As a new PC gamer, I adore the value Steam provides.
Does steam have any good games for a 5 year old?
Secret of the Magic Crystals. The Indie Kids Pack is pretty adorable. $4.99 for 5 games is hard to beat.
Does steam have any good games for a 5 year old?
The indie Kids Pack is actually pretty good. Crayon Pyshics and Max and the Magic Marker are both similar games where you drawn things to solve puzzles. Toki Tori is a great puzzle game, no comment on the horse game.

While browsing thru the list of games I found one that hasn't been mentioned yet.

It's called Ceville. 75% off priced at $2.50

Looks like a pretty good point and click adventure. IGN seemed to like it. I am going to give it a shot and buy it.

Also about to pull the trigger on the Kids pack.

And I will try 1 more time to start a group buy for Nation Red before I grab it for $5. PM me :)

So who here is definitely getting Red Orchestra heroes of Stalingrad next year, I heard a rumor that its to be released in January, Can anyone confirm?

Spent about $30 total on this sale, when really all I originally wanted was about $7.50 worth of games when the sale began. For shame myself, for shame...

Thanks for bringing that game to my attention. Although I won't get it now, I'll keep my eye on it for the future.

The indie game of the day is Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes for $2.99, normally 20 bucks. Description reads : "Grotesque Tactics* combines the features and clichés of Western and Asian console RPGs like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics and provides a highly addicting and entertaining change to the current, more serious role playing games. The game is focused on providing the fascination of the Strategy RPG genre, but also weaves a humorous storyline and plenty of amusing dialogue, poking fun at some of the most successful RPGs, such as Oblivion, Final Fantasy and Lord of the Rings.

To protect the kingdom from the merciless cult "The Dark Church" which has murdered all of the kingdom’s heroes and knights, you will have to hire dubious soldiers and rescue jealous maidens who will follow you into combat as your groupies. Up to 10 heroes are deployed in tactical battles to take on the Dark Church with their mysterious special abilities.

*In chess, a Grotesque is a problem or endgame study which features a particularly unlikely initial position, especially one in which White fights with a very small force against a much larger black army. Grotesques are generally intended to be humorous
".

I am very temped. Anyone know of it? Can you play it on a pad?

Spent a total of $9.00 on the Witcher and Plants vs. Zombies. I would've love to have picked up a box copy of each, but I'll make due with Stream.

i went all out. i'm set for a year or two or whenever diablo 3/guild wars 2 comes out anyway.
haven't really bought games for about a year anyway so i got to pick up a bunch of awesome stuff i missed out on. i bought two copies for myself of some games for my other computer. i know we debate about console vs. pc and comfy couch and all that good shit, but i practice what i preach. when friends come over they have the choice of sitting at a desk or on the couch for our multiplayer pc gaming and since there are so few pc games with splitscreen co-op or multiplayer, that means i gotta shell out for an extra copy. luckily we get sales like this one.

I built a new computer in September, just in time to take advantage of all these Steam sales. I'm catching up on 5-8 years of PC gaming I've missed.

Here's my haul:

11/1 Plants vs. Zombies $4.99
11/7 Supreme Commander 2 plus DLC $8.50
12/21 CivCity: Rome $0.99
12/21 Shattered Union $0.49
12/21 Toki Tori $1.25
12/22 Civilization IV Complete $6.24
12/22 Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale $6.80
12/7 Chime $1.25
12/12 Swords and Soldiers HD $2.50
12/21 Greed Corp $2.50
1/2 Everyday Genius: Square Logic $1.50
1/2 City Life 2008 $2.49
1/2 Sid Meier's Railroads! $2.49
1/2 Tropico Reloaded $1.74
1/2 Railroad Tycoon II Platinum $1.24
1/2 Ghost Master $0.99
1/2 Company of Heroes $2.49

Total $48.45
Average $2.85

I have a huge backlog, so I mostly stuck to cheap games that likely won't drop any further. I do mostly strategy/sim gaming on my PC and everything else on my consoles.

I am going to make my final purchase of the sale tonight. This is what I have in my cart at the moment:

Nation Red
Killing Floor
Indie Kids Pack
Ceville
Ben There, Dan That 2-pack

For a total of $20

Kinda weird having the Kids Pack right there with 2 zombie slaughter games, lol.

Considering Plants vs. Zombies and Torchlight.

I bought more stuff, ugh.....

Add to my already long list

Sol Survivor
Red Nation
Sid Meir's Pirates (have this still in the box, but the key is freaking gone somehow)
Stronghold Collection
Fallout 3 GOTY
Armed and Dangerous

FINAL TALLY

Grotesque Tactics: Evil HeroesSwarm Arena
Ion Assault
Bionic Commando Rearmed

Guardians of Graxia
Arcadia
S
words and Soldiers HD
Greed Corp
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Kane and Lynch 2 - Dog Days
Rush
Devil May Cry 4
Borderlands DLC Claptrap
Robot Revolution
Dead Rising 2
Darksiders

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Total Spent: $76.62

That's $16.62 more than a copy of Call of Duty Black Ops for 15 games and a DLC addon.

only winter bottom here for me.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom $0.49

Total spent: $0.49

$0.49
well spent this season with a huge ass backlog of ps3, 360 and Steam game from last year haul. WOOT!

Heres what I ended up with -

Battlefield Bad Company 2: $6.79
Overlord 2: $1.50
Super Meatboy: $3.75
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition: $4.99
Killing Floor character packs: $.98
Serious Sam Double Pack: $2.99
Doom Pack: $8.74
Amnesa: The Dark Descent: $6.80
Oblivion GOTY Deluxe: $12.49
Supreme Commander 2: $3.74
Stalker Bundle: $4.99
Hitman: Blood Money: $2.49
Commandos Pack: $2.99
Zeno Clash: $3.75

Total: $66.99

Pretty satisfied.

Favorite purchase: The Witcher Enhanced edition - currently playing through and enjoying very much.. can't believe I ignored this game for so long.

Biggest disappointment: Quake collection selling for 10.xx & missing Quake 4 & Enemy Territory. 8 of the 10 items are garbage mission packs or Quake 3/Team arena (free now anyways - see quakelive.com).

I asked about it a couple pages back. If you get it, post what you think! I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Same goes for Emerald City Confidential, another point and click adventure game - if anyone has played it, post your impressions. That's also 2.50.

Neverwinter Nights 2 now appears in my region. When it went originally on sale, I couldn't see it. My laptop meets all minimum req, only looking it will struggle on the Processor, needing 2Ghz and I have 2.19Ghz. How is it controlled? Can a pad be used?

I'm looking at Deus Ex now. How often does that game go on sale? It's old, so $5 seems like a bit much for it. What do you all think?

I've never played it...is it amazing?
