Yeah took mine too.  I do drop those stupid groups they make me join the minute I have the game, kinda doubt that has anything to do with it though.

SOB! My +1... is gone.

I just received a notification of removal too. WTH? I don't even use any of the gleam scripts since my ban was lifted. I'm gleam clean dammit!

FIRExKEEPER
I am a former mod/curator for that group
So they blackmailed developers for that, kept doing shady shit to get games greenlit and now giving keys that gets revoked.
And you have a group on steam who's creator/owner literally scammed someone 2 tf2 hats and admited it in an announcement and its all over steamrep in a report and hes literally 14.

And they're both still active steam groups ..... valve....really ... get yo sh*t together

Hello , Deduction here.

Thats about the revoke of the keys.
I helped him promote his game for keys , Then he asked me if I can close the giveaway when it is live and like 20k cd keys got taken , he wanted me stop the giveaway (that wasn't possible) because we arlready started the promotion , He wanted us to stop because he made a deal with LazyGuysStudious or something like that , that his game will be in bundle.
Then he just removed me and I tried to add him again and thats my chat with him : https://i.imgur.com/n4eK3ml.png , https://i.imgur.com/MDBj4eM.png I have nothing to say. Im really sorry for this , I will try to make some giveaways with 1 slot for you guys next time , I shouldn't fall like that.
Sorry and have a good day!

Valve needs to take serious measures for this kind of attitude. I mean both, dev and "helper".

In all seriousness it's getting a bit out of hand how often this is happening lately. That was supposed to be the absolute last resort for really serious cases like mass credit card fraud. Now pretty much any neckbeard in his mom's basement will do it because someone said boo to him or because reasons.

I hate to get all angry Euro steamunpowered.eu about i but Valve really needs to get slapped with a lawsuit or some press that they give a shit needs to run a really scathing article about it that makes them look terrible.

This is the hardware forum, right? :whistle2: :D/

I may have some money in a week or so to do a serious upgrade/replacement of my nearly-decade-old PC (actually I'm pretty sure parts of it were there when we had the first President Clinton). I haven't built a PC in, oh, about 20 years, and I'm not sure whether I still can. Does anybody knowledgeable in these matters have any good recommendations? I was looking at something like a 6th gen i5 with at least 8Gb of DDR4 RAM, at least a 120Gb SSD, 2Tb SATA drive, GeForce GTX 960 or 970. Pre-builts with similar specs are fairly high (~$900-$1,000), and I was planning to spend something in the neighborhood of $700ish.

Do you have a Microcenter near you? Microcenter is the best place to shop retail. It's nice buying things from a brick & mortar store so you have somewhere to go for quick returns and exchanges. Check in once a week and wait to buy the new rig until they are offering a promo where they give you a free/discounted mobo in addition to your Intel processor. This tends to happen quite frequently in the late summer or fall right around back to school time. Of course it's also the best time to buy a new CPU when the new architecture is releasing at retail. Also buy your graphics card from them when they are offering a nice bundled $60 new release game you have been wanting. You can get these things price matched to Newegg or Amazon as well. Those are your most expensive components and that's where you want to start. Keep your eye out for heavily discounted solid state drives and monitors as well.

Fry's is pretty decent too. I don't have Microcenter here but we have Frys. There's probably mom and pop shops too (but check their return policy) if you don't have either of those just no Best Buy and shit like that. If all else fails there's Newegg.

You can get a damn near top-of-the-line rig for $1100-1200 if you do things properly.  You can hit the 700-800 mark if you skimp on a few parts, which I wouldn't do.  The biggest things (unforeseen costs) will be dishing out for your monitor and SSD.  You are definitely going to want a SSD.  Monitors also vary in price dramatically. But you should be able to get something really sweet for $120ish if you shop around.  Best Buy had a good, cheap monitor on clearance for $50 a couple months ago.

The most important thing is to not rush it and keep an eye on the bargains and bundles.

GeForce GTX 960 or 970
They have the Radeon 480 something or other due out at the end of the month, it's supposed to have Geforce 980 performance but retails for $200. I would wait and see how that one is before you pick out a video card. Also they have cases in all sorts of new colors now besides beige, it's wild

Don't bother with a 120 GB SSD, get a 240 GB one so you have room for the OS and one or two big games that may benefit from the extra speed. They cost about 55 bucks now on average. Anything larger and you're looking at a very high markup.

Yeah for your price point definitely look into that new Radeon 480 for $200 that's supposed to compete at the Geforce 980 level.  Things like that are the difference between a $800 build and a $1200 build.

Unfortunately, I don't have either of those in my area. The closest Fry's to me is in Houston, which is a 5ish-hour drive. I've never even seen a Microcenter.

Well, >$1,000 is well over what my wife would ever let me spend, so $700-900 is probably more realistic.

I'm kind-of an nVidia partisan--I've been using their cards for years and I really like them.

Agree the 480 would be the better over the 970... so long as you can tolerate AMD.  If not I would wait and then spring the extra $100 or so for the 1070.

Not that it helps much, but there is a Micro Center in Houston, too. The one I went to must have been there a while, judging by the Netscape Navigator logo on one of the windows.

Micro Center's warranty process is the stuff of legend, or at least it is at the Rockville store. You literally bring in your item, state that it is broken, and receive a gift card on the spot. I couldn't believe it after what I've been through with Best Buy.

THIS THIS THIS. Every two years I replace my video card for free and buy a new 2 year warranty. I have ~$350 to shop around for a new GPU this fall after returning the "broken" one. Can't stress this enough. It costs about $100 out of pocket every two years to stay current. (tax on your purchase + price of a new extended warranty)

It's not even shady dealings. The employees sell things with that sales pitch.

Where do you live in Texas that you are 5 hours from Houston and that's the closest Frys? I know they have them in Austin, Dallas, and Arlington and Dallas has a Microcenter as does Houston. Maybe El Paso or the Valley?

Anyway, keep an eye on SD for deals on components and stuff. 120GB SSDs are running as low as $35, but like Foxhack said 240GBs for around $55 are the norm and I would shoot for one of those. 8GB of RAM should run you around $30. Sign up for Newegg's mailing list and they email 10% off DDR4 RAM coupons every few weeks. Hey, it's something. Do you need an optical drive? You can probably find a PSU for $50 or under and same with a decent case. Get a good after market cooler - the norm is that EVO 212 I think and it is like $20 or $25 on sale. Budgeting all that you can probably still get and Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, but you'll be eating all of your budget in that. What do you need the 2TB SATA drive for? If it is only Steam games, I say go refurb, but I'm just crazy like that.

If you really want a budget PC with great performance I would personally go with the AMD 480 and an AMD CPU. You get a lot more value for the price, they just tend to be more power hungry and run hotter. I've only ever had AMD CPUs on my desktop, but used plenty of Intels on my laptops. I'd probably say Intels are preferable on laptops for the heat, unless you want to game then you can't beat the A series on laptops. For GPUs I've had both AMDs and Nvidias, but more AMDs. I've never had a GPU fail on me from either company and usually just replace them after they become obsolete. I've also never been kept from playing a game I really wanted to play because of a driver..

Nothing get this thread talking like Hardware. You guys are like MysterD with DRM, VRAM, Red Dead Redemption, any AAA game getting a 75% off sale and that one time The Secret World was $5 at GMG.

ok I built my first rig about 6 months ago with no prior knowledge of pcs at all and I must say I have no complaints as of yet and had zero issues finding deals once I knew where to look. Patience is key I noticed. My target price was same price range as yours I came in at 615.00 with tax it's nothing fancy but does all my games at max settings. I don't have witcher 3 of fallout 4 on pc though.

I5 6500
Gigabyte mobo GA h110(cheapest I could find)
G skill 16 gb ddr4
Sapphire r9 380 nitro
Evga 600 bronze.

With your budget you could throw a better graphics card and different mobo in there to make it a better budget pc then mine.

Newegg charges tax in my state so I only bought my extra fans and my 4 pin adapter for fan control from them but if they don't you can't go wrong. I used multiple sites I never heard of before but made sure they had great feedback throughout the Web. I'll also send you a name of a site that helped me alot.

I've always been a NVidia guy, as well.

If you're looking to invest in a card and you're going NVidia, I'd say the GTX 1070 (around $349-400) looks like the best bang-for-buck in terms of performance + also having plenty of VRAM with 8 GB worth of it - which is out-performing their $1,000+ Titans! If I didn't upgrade last year to a 4GB 960, I'd be seriously considering a 1070.

I'm not an AMD guy - but I certainly am curious how their RX 480 might turn out, since that's going to be around $200. It would be interesting to see if NVidia responds to the mid-range area at some point with maybe a GTX 1060 or something of that sort to compete in that $200 range - but we ain't heard anything of that sort...at least not yet, anyways.

I feel like the only dude who doesn't have a SSD here, hehe.

Most of my hard drives are 7200RPM Western Digital Black.
DEF need one.

-Got my first one and only installed Windows on it. (250GB)

-Got 2nd one for Games (256GB)

-Got 3rd one for porn and games (500GB)

-And then I have a couple HDD's (blacks)

The 4GB GTX 960 SC been doing a pretty good job (way better than expected) for 1080p with 30FPS/60FPS (depends per game) at High-to-Ultra in most games, so I can't complain about that. It's done its job just fine - certainly was a major jump from the aging 1GB 560 Ti, at that time.

But, yeah - the bang-for-buck / pricing and 8GB of VRAM is sick on the 1070. I certainly didn't expect that kind of improvements in one generation of cards; especially at that kind of pricing.

I'm still interested in a 1070, if I can catch a hell of a glitch price that gets honored - a la Microcenter's killer honored price glitch on the 970 last year that I missed-out on. ;)

Usually takes me a few card generations to pass by before I buy another card - i.e. when the card I have just isn't cutting it for what I really want to play for most new / recent games.

Going into either Fry's or Microcenter is kinda like that.

I moved back home to the south and I hate not having anything down here. I guess southerners are stereotypical and don't like "new fangled" computers. But I still get to Vegas.. and then I'm like a kiddie in a candy store at Fry's.

3 SSDs - 4 7200 HDs - Desktop

2 SSDs - Laptop

About 10 other HD's laying around that are 7200/5400 as "back ups" of all sorts of stupid fuck

I love Microcenter. Bought some parts there for my current gaming desktop (which I built back in 2011 + have upgraded with more RAM + VRAM on so far) & also bought my gaming laptop there a few months back.

I so wish I had a Fry's around here - meh.
