Anyone know if you HAVE to install GFWL on the new Dead Rising Steamworks versions?  Seems like it does so automatically and their integration isn't a bifurcated as the Dark Souls one where you can sidestep 'dat crappy third party dead platform.

It sounds like you only have to if you want to convert preexisting save files and achievements.

(And also that conversion tool isn't available yet?)

Q. Will my save data be compatible with the new Steamworks version?

A: We’ve implemented a save data and Achievements migration tool that’s built right into each game. The tool will allow you to transfer progress from GFWL to Steam. However, the game will require that you install and sign into the GFWL client since the game needs to authenticate unlocked Achievements recorded on the GFWL service. Those who wish to start the game from scratch can skip the GFWL client installation entirely since the save/Achievement migration is optional.

It looks like SimCity is on the way toward what I want:

http://simcity.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie_attack

But that's a one time disaster. I'd like a whole scenario/expansion based on it before I'd consider buying it.
Pretty sure that SimCity is a post-apocalyptic city builder:

  • The land is scorched and the sky is carbon.
  • The people huddle in tiny settlements, too scared to rebuild the thriving metropolises of the 20th Century.
  • The hospitals, fire departments, and police stations struggle to deal with even the tiniest emergencies, resulting in settlement-wide triage and people losing their lives to minor infections, house fires, and street crime that makes Battlefield: Hardline look like My Little Pony: Tea Party Playhouse.
  • The schools try to reteach the citizenry the basic language and arithmetic skills that humanity forgot during the dark years.
  • Most of the citizens suffer from PTSD so bad, they are unable to navigate towns with even one road, causing the lines for jobs to last for up to 48 hours before they give up and go home, but they can't even remember where they live, so they just go inside the first house they see in order to drink themselves into sweet oblivion for a few hours before starting again.
But it's EA, so of course it still sucks.

Also a good way to desecrate the smoldering ruins of the gray market.
Basically this. Done out of greed, like every other one of these decisions lately. Notice they only started making serious changes (ones that are well overdue) to their client when their bottom line was being affected enough for them to take action.

I get the region-locking, but locking items (including keys) is bullshit. Currently there's no other way to transfer Steam wallet (a transfer feature was in beta, I think) and I guess Valve wants to keep it that way. Lock this shit AFTER you provide an official solution, don't make us suffer in the interim.

Anyone has doubts about buying Crysis warhead? Not anymore!

The gems stuff is definitely new. There shouldn't be much left for traders to sell so not sure why they felt this was necessary.
Yep, they're going hog wild on this 7 day lock BS. I got bit by the gems one this evening. Not a bad bite so no big deal, but my plan was to buy some gems to trade for tradable keys to buy a game with those keys on dispenser. I missed the memo about the gems lock.

But wait...there's more!

Things that also have the lock:

- Cards bought off the market. (Dropped cards still can be traded/marketed immediately)

- Emotes/backgrounds given from creating badges.

Basically anything marketable now has a lock on it for a week.

This really hurts the casual trader. Many people will be completely turned off by this. Its going to be important to stockpile crap now, meaning more shit for a hacker to steal lol.

Anyone plays Rome 2? Are there other good DLCs for single player besides Wrath of Sparta and Hannibal at the gates? I'm looking at greek states too...

Apparently boosters (and the cards) created with gem sacks that have a seven day waiting period are also affected by the seven day waiting period. So no more crafting waifu boosters and getting profit from them.

So I can't do that for Neptunia 2 :whistle2:(. No more getting anime games for 75-100% off after selling boosters, it's a sad day in spoderland.

Crap. I was making so much money on Dragon Ball Xenoverse stuff too.

So, is Skylines lousy with this sustainable development! transportation alternatives! hippie crap, or can I play it old-school, Robert Moses style?

Lay down as much asphalt and build as many coal/oil power plants as it takes to warm your heart.  You'll need more acreage per capita if you need a super-highway to get anywhere but there's enough real estate in the game to support doing that.

Why? Because it makes it look like they're doing something while not addressing any of the stuff people actually want them to do.
More to it, because when you buy a game for $5 today and sell it to a guy for $10 worth of digital crap tomorrow when the game retails for $15, Valve figures it's missing out on a $10 sale. Whatever the percentage they make on the card/gem sales they must think it's less than the lost revenue from the person not just paying the $15 cash.

How new is this?

"Note: Steam Trading Cards, Profile Backgrounds, Emoticons, and Gems purchased on the Steam Community Market will not be tradable or marketable for one week after purchase. We are making this change to combat fraud (which artificially increases the prices of these items), and to help maintain a safe and healthy item economy within Steam.

Untradable Steam items can still be used like normal. They just cannot be immediately used in trades with other Steam users."
So that's what caused gem pricing to crash? :wall:

Since GauRocks got the ball rolling on this, I'll just leave this here:

Steam Keys F.a.q.

Please do not create Threads regarding Steam Keys into this community hub.
We will delete all requests regarding steam keys that are not posted in this thread.

The following bundle purchasers will get keys automatically from the relative Bundle Homepage:

  • Indie Royale
  • Indie Game Stand
The following bundles or stores are not yet awarded with a steam key :

  • Monday Bundle 21 by Indie Gala
  • Summertide by Indie Gala
  • ShinyLoot
For those that purchased the game directily on desura we will provide a Steam key
if you send a proof of purchase (the web receipt in your purchase history) to the following email :
doomanddestiny_at_hotmail_dot_com
keep in mind we might request desura to check some of the receipt we receive.

Why we are so strict on Steam Keys ?
In the last year there was an outburst of sites reselling Bundle Keys for profit,
it is ours and yours best interest not to encourage this behaviour.
GauRocks

When you say "not yet awarded," does that mean that we should be patient, that we need to email you proof of purchase individually, or that we won't be getting them at all?
Eversor [developer]

It means that we have decided not to send keys to those bundles for now. That was decided mainly on the average value we received per bundle sold, and on the per-bundle agreement we stipulated.

Monday Bundle 21 by Indie Gala
Summertide by Indie Gala
ShinyLoot
Hm. So two questions:

1) Is anybody really selling bundle keys for "profit"? Most people I see, except for weasels in the trash thread, are basically selling at or around cost. Are people really netting more than $.20-$0.30 on a bundle key?

2) Do the IndieGala and ShinyLoot bundle contracts really not include provisions for supplying Steam keys for items on Greenlight? That seems like a peculiar oversight--unless it is a deliberate one.

EDIT: I'll just note that I don't really give a rat's ass about Doom and Destiny because it looks like crap to me and I haven't gone out of my way to get it in any bundle.

Everytime I try to add sustainable crap to my games (hydroelectric dams, buses, etc) I screw my game over. So I'm just building coal plants, trash incenerators and creamatoriums left and right. Streets everywhere. I only have one 2 block section that's red. I'm debating destroying half that district because it annoys me.

I will say, one of the first things I did was decriminalize marijuana though. And gave everyone free smoke detectors. You're welcome city.

Right, I think they're either overstating the value of their game a bit or otherwise implying that a bunch of cheap keys on the market is taking away sales of their game at full price on Steam which is a fallacy. The people who go hunting around in shady digital corners for cheap keys are not the same people that buy games at or near full price on Steam.

As for the contracts, who the hell knows? I've been told by Groupees once that it's in theirs but would anybody be really surprised if Indie Gala were lazy, half assed and cut corners? Also even if it's in there how would we know? And sadly I don't see Indie Gala being much help here.

Oh and agreed on them making such a big deal over giving out keys for a faux RPGMaker game is a bit silly.

I love how they say it is in our best interest not to get a steam key for a game we paid for, sometimes two or three times over in different bundles.  That definitely sounds like it's in my best interest.

No one is going to buy their shitty looking game so they can protect their hoard of useless Steam keys like its their virginity for all I care.

They just come out of that sounding like whiney assholes to me.

Why would I, as customer of those bundles who got screwed over, purchase this game or any of their future products? Some of you might even avoid a bundle in the future that has their game in it. All that's happening when these devs decide not to honor their contract is them losing customers. Like, I can't imagine that this has/will have a positive impact on their sales at all.

I did my best. Now it's just Every Monday 21 (which actually didn't promise keys) not getting keys, and they might change their minds on that one too given that the other developer promised keys "if we can" for that bundle. I'd like to encourage you guys not to antagonize them for the moment, since it seems like they might actually be reasonable on this one.

EDIT: This got posted and deleted very fast. Looks like the two devs may be arguing with each other over this one.

So Gau shoved the Wayback Machine Archive in his face for that Gala Summertide bundle that point blank says Steam keys will be given.

Unfortunately, the Wayback Machine didn't Archive the Monday Bundle 21 but I'm sure it was on there too. They're lazy and just use the same damned generic templates for all the Greenlight games.

I hate how Gala takes their damned pages down and if it doesn't get archived then you don't have proof to refute these developers bullshit about not even knowing what they agreed to. *Edit: and they also bury it in that stupid pop up that you have to actually click on the game to see so the news sites that do a cut and paste image of the main bundle page never nab the part about Greenlight keys either.

Lesson for the future, whenever buying anything on Greenlight from Indie Gala SCREEN GRAB THAT SHIT where it says you will get keys. You may need it for the future and Wayback might not grab it.

But it is in your best interest. You don't want their shitty game on your account, you're trying to limit it to 2,000 games right?

It also saves me having to activate it and asking Steam to remove it later.

Took the top one. Thanks....I think.

and those games have been bundled a lot, the price on gamersgate seems high to me.
I was playing Pixeljunk Monsters the other day and it's not bad, just a sort of run of the mill tower defense game. So far nowhere near as fun or involved as the titans of the genre (Defense Grid, PvZ). The twist is you control this little wooden guy and you have to walk him around to plant towers and collect dropped coins and gems. So it basically gives you busy work during and in between waves as opposed to you just sitting and watching things happen.
