I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

I got it a while back on my 'anniversary' and that was nearly a year ago IIRC (*Edit: yep, May 10th 2011 when I bought Magicka. Shut up) so it's been around for a while at least.
Could be worse. I made my account 8 years ago just so I could activate the copy of CS: Source I bought from retail. (I even had a backlog back then).

Edit: So Nuuvem's having a BL2 sale with some pretty cheap prices on individual DLCs, including the Headhunter DLCs (about $0.30 each) which I just bought a little over a week ago for a hair under $3.

So to all of you who enabled me with reasonable comments saying the content was worth the price of admission, shame on you. I'm never taking advice from you guys again! :shame:

I can't check directly as I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure my first purchase was a boxed copy of Empire Total War for about £18. Jokes on them though, it's almost never on sale!

:whee:

P.s. I too bought Magicka on release. Times were simpler back then.

People told you to buy the Headhunter DLC? It's all too shallow to be considered good. Each Headhunter DLC is just a map with a tacked-on story and some extra heads and skins. The only reason to have it is to have everything available in the game. It's what you play after playing all of the other DLC for all of the games and somehow want more.

My first game purchase was...

Mar 7, 2009
$4.99
Purchase
World of Goo

And your sacrifice enabled Humble Bundle to come to be.

Back when EU used dollars too. Thought it was basically $1=1€ because of VAT.

Well, at least it's only just recently been bundled for the first time. And I even completed the demo since I bought it! Purchase totally justified, amirite?

I kinda dropped out of gaming not too long before half life 2 was released, so I didn't have a steam account until recently. At least that means I can say my first steam purchase was the dawn of war franchise pack for $9.99.

June 26, 2009 I bought City of Heroes: Architect Edition for $19.99.

Bought it for the in-game items it came with and the "free" month's subscription added to me account (worth $15).  I just bought it, got the key to activate at NCSoft (heh, buying a 'retail key' for another digital game service via Steam) and forgot that Steam existed.

My next time using Steam would be June 19, 2011 when I bought The Orange Box for $19.99

Ah, we were so young. My first Steam purchases have since all been bundled: various indie games, King's Bounty, Civ III and IV (which I still have yet to play). At least Mass Effect 1 for $5 was a good buy.
You really need to play some Civ IV, it's a great game. If I didn't have the huge library I have these days I'd still be playing the crap out of it.

I've played Civ IV once since I bought it, and I'm kind of scared to play again. I spent more time that week playing it than I did doing anything else.

My first Steam game was Metro 2033 for $4.99 on 10/5/12. I have since gotten/bought 5 additional copies. I did however follow that up with the ever so awesome Absolutely Square Bundle. (RIP Amazon PCDD glory days, you will be missed.)

Audiosurf    Feb 20, 2008  - $9.95

That was so long ago...It was a dark time, before steam sales were even a thing.

My first steam purchase was legend of grimrock was Legend of Grimrock on 4/9/13 for 5.09. Then I didn't buy anything else til the summer sale

Dec 23, 2009 $18.72
Osmos, Time Gentlemen, Please!, AaaaaAAaaaAAA!!! + The Wonderful End of the World

Man I actually spent this much money on Indie games? I did have a decent amount of fun with Aaaa.... and Wonderful End of the World was a subpar Katamari Damacy clone. I disliked Osmos and Time Gentlemen never got played.

Funny thing is.. I don't have any of the AaaaaaaaAaaaAAA games, or The Wonderful End of the World. Managed to skip all of those bundles.

Jun 10, 2010  Team Fortress 2   $9.99

Rarely played it either.  Didn't start using Steam full-time until my retail collector's edition of Fallout: New Vegas forced me to.  Holy fuck was I pissed!  Went to the goddamned gamestop midnight launch "party," got home & installed it, had to wait until the fuck ing game unlocked three hours later because Valve Time.

Worms Coleção está à venda por 12,07 dólares com Paypal.
It's been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper.

Since we're discussing when we first started using Steam...

Steam says I registered the Half-Life Platinum Pack key on November 2, 2005 - I remember buying a huge binder full of PC game CDs with their cover art / CD keys, and one them was that set. I needed to get patches, found out that you couldn't get newer ones unless you signed up for this Steam thing, so I got an account.

Counter-Strike Anthology was bought used and activated on February 22, 2006.

Lost Coast was added on May 30, 2007.

Prey was added from a key on November 17, 2007.

The Orange Box was bought on November 23, 2007. I'd just finished a black Friday shift at a local Toys'R'Us I was temping at, then hopped out to a Best Buy a city away, and bought the last copy at the store for $20.

Fun fact: My ISP was so crappy back then I wasn't capable of playing Team Fortress 2 until a year or two later!

Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Ikko Ikki Clan DLC, Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Rise of the Samurai DLC

10,49€

Had Shogun 2 from retail. Some of the dlc at 100% price was my first purchase on Steam. Two weeks later they hit 66% off on autumn sale and so I became a CAG.

I'm starting to feel like +1-ing is equivalent to throwing money in the fountain at the mall. And GabeN is the night shift janitor pocketing all the coinage while muttering suckers under his breath and swiping the day old products left in the utility corridor behind Auntie Anne's.

My first activation was a boxed copy of Sin Episodes Emergence that I bought from Big Lots. First direct Steam purchase was Vampire the Masquerade + Amnesia the Dark Descent, one of which got bundled..

Heh, my first Steam purchase was Sin Episode 1, too. Though I wasn't able to buy stuff directly so I had to ask people to gift me the stuff instead.
