I'm trying to wrap up FarCry 5, but man, it's kinda a slog... Just not feeling it. Not into the bad guys. I hope they never repeat the capture mechanic again... Getting captured 9 times with no escape sucks my left and right nuts. I do think the game looks good. I like the large open world. It feels like I have to 'buy' way more stuff than I had to in older FarCry games, fortunately MysterD's mom is still free.

I think FC5's biggest problem w/ the kidnapping mechanic is, it can happen while you're in the middle of something or planning to go out to do something...and then you get kidnapped.

FC5's really too big of a game and sandbox, for the player to be pulled away from it numerous times that way. Once or twice, fine. But....well, about 15 (which sounds about right)? Yeah, a bit crazy.

This should be something the gamer should have to do, go, or initialize...for the gamer to advance to the next step in the story. And then they come to kidnap you.

Despite that and the cliffhanger ending - game's still a blast though.

Bought and refunded Nowhere Prophet after about 40 minutes. I'm a sucker for deck building, tactical card games. This one was compared to Hearthstone meets Slay the Spire. I felt the UI felt very clunky. It was not great to navigate. Also I hated that every unit you attack on the battlefield retaliates immediately. They will die and get a wound. One more death and they are out of your convoy deck. You can attack the enemy and should, but taunt units force you to attack them first. Also leaving enemies on the field make your guys easy pickings. This gameplay loop felt harsh, slow and clunky. Similar to Hearthstone you have energy to play your units, but also have a commander deck using the same energy that helps your units and can take out enemy units. With each victory you get some equipment maybe, but usually loot that can be sold at marketplaces. It's a slow slog across the map and didn't feel very fun. Every movement you lose moral and food, so you must keep doing battles, which means hurting and losing more units. The graphics were pretty good especially for the unit icons. The story was barely there, as per these type of games, but it could have had potential. This one I just didn't like much and it felt much too much like work than feeling gamey, as I was constantly trying to take out units while trying to take the opponents HP to 0. Probably about a 6/10, but felt very flawed. I also read unlocks are very slow. Just doesn't seem like my type of game at all.

Yep, there were a few times it got me while I was out exploring a new area with no checkpoints nearby and I had to redo. And everytime they tried to kidnap me I tried my best to get away hoping to break the game! I almost did it once too by jumping into the river and running into the wilderness.

I haven't gotten around to New Dawn (backlogged!), but...did they fix the kidnapping dilemma in FC: New Dawn?

I don't remember any kidnapping in New Dawn. It's improved upon FC5 in every way imaginable. The story is completely new and takes place after FC5 so there is no kidnapping element like in FC5. I do believe one or two story missions sort of warped you across the map or something but it wasn't like you were constantly scared of being kidnapped. Everything about the game is better, including outposts and the new expeditions.

I was kinda interested in that Fall Guys game but I didn't pay enough attention to when the beta ended so by the time I decided to try it I was too late, although I didn't get a key until Friday night and I had a lot to do this weekend so I couldn't have played much regardless.  Anybody here actually play it and have any thoughts on it?   Yeah I know it is dumb for me to even ask about another game, whatever I am still interested in it.

I plan to try it once it hits PS+ tomorrow.

If anyone decides to play The Touryst (it's on gamepass) :

     1.  Good on ya, it's a fun little game and doesn't take too long to finish

     2.  It's designed to run at 60FPS/Hz.  Heed the warning and set your display to 60 before playing.

You can play at higher rates but the framerate fluctuates wildly making the platforming aspects (which are most of the game) a lot harder than they have to be.  I of course played it at 144 for most of the game not realizing the frustration that  those sweet, sweet extra frames were causing me.  It also makes the arcade mini games nearly impossible since they are running so fast.  Reminds me of back in the day when my 486 had a 'turbo' button on it that i had to turn off for older games...i remember wing commander especially running waaay too fast being designed for slower clock speeds

I played the beta. I found it fun but frustrating. So you join a match, which at the time as taking say 30 seconds. Then you play a qualifying round where out of the 60 or so players only 38 qualify? Maybe it was 45? Either way, if you don't qualify, then that's it. You can either spectate the other players or you log out and start all over again.

That's the frustrating part. I think I was qualifying 1/10 times I played. The furthest I got was round 3. It was fun, but the games open up more once you get deeper into the tournament and it gets frustrating not qualifying and playing the same maps over and over.

Not sure if there's a custom game mode or if they changed anything on release. I think it'd be better to have like a 3-round qualifier instead of a 1-round knockout. That said, game is solid, just think they need to do more to let people enjoy it. Maybe a consolation tournament for all those knocked out.

Played through it the other day and yeah, it's a fairly fun time. Still not sure though if I enjoyed it more for the game itself or for the art style. I figured it would be another game that simply knocked off that Minecraft style and did nothing else with it but it's surprisingly stunning at times. Really good lighting system that help makes each island pop. At times it feels like you're doing chores and knocking things off a checklist one by one (because you literally are knocking things off a checklist one by one) but the majority of the activities are alright and I enjoyed the exploration enough to play through to the end.

Agreed. There's very little story to speak of and everything is quite basic, but that was kinda nice for a change. I really dislike the whole minecraft look in general but, like you said, there's something charming about it here and I really enjoyed its use in this game

DON'T BUY GREY MARKET MORANS

But did you get the insurance?!?

What game? Which grey market?
I'm going to guess the site that rhymes with penguin and maybe it got filtered out by CAG.

Another day another game and this time it's Next Up Heroes. Described as a hero twin stick shooter. You go around online levels and try to complete the floors as a hero collecting prestige and icons to level up your hero while using abilities special to them. Honestly this game looks OK but feels extremely generic. There is a mechanic where you can revive heroes souls, which grants abilities when you get enough and also has them attacking slowly on enemies for you. This game is punishing and never felt fair after the tutorial. There is a very limited co-op where you can be revived into a person's game and play with them. It works, but it's pretty lame. Honestly this game just feels mobile like and unpolished. Also the difficulty even on easy is a pain in the neck and I died so often I pretty much just played ranged champs. A better game for this type of gameplay is like Snack World for the Switch. Same concept in a way but way more fun. Easily a 6/10 game I will forget soon enough.

Sigh, Twitch Prime, making me continuously feel dumb about bundle purchases and especially Humble Monthlies.

Blazing Chrome, Chroma Squad, Shaq Fu, Treachery in Beatdown City and Warsaw. That's a pretty solid month of releases.

Blazing Chrome was in a Platinum pick and mix Fanatical bundle. Once it was there it is destined to eventually be in a million other places. I have been waiting to play Treachery and Chrome, so that's 2 games for me.

Oh damn I didn't know it was going to be on PS+, thanks for the heads up.
Played some Fall Guys over the lunch hour.

So, I'm not really a battle royale guy. But due to my roots I'm probably better than average at platforming. Made to the final five on my first run, then knocked on the 3rd round the next two runs..

I felt that the best stages are the team-based ones. Unless it's a final 5 stage, the free-for-alls are just chaotic. Way too easy for a random moody player who needs a hug to ruin your run. Often you're rewarded to hang back and watch other yolo blobs fail.

Anyway, the game was good for a couple silly grins. Won't take it seriously and might not launch it again.

Is it possible to join the same room as at least one other person each time, or it it random who you're matched up with?

Man, Frog Fractions is going to get me to buy some $8 hat dlc. It's $2 off this week.

Regarding Farcry, I got that uplay+ week trial a couple weeks ago and finally played FC4 and felt like there wasn't a single interesting thing about it. I played through 5 last year with that launch month of uplay+ and was surprised how much I liked it. People I follow seemed pretty down on 5, but 5 was the first FC I've gotten really into since the first one. I really liked 3, but bounced off of it relatively early and never came back to it. I hated Blood Dragon and never played 2 or Primal. New Dawn was pretty good, but it didn't grab me quite like 5 did.

Played about 17hrs of the Fall Guys beta last week....it was a great deal of fun with friends (tho there is no group play; technically) but the lack of content and the reuse of the same stages over and over got boring; decided not to buy

I finished WWE 2K20's MyCareer Mode over the weekend. Took probably around 20-25 hours or so.

So, I have around 28.3 hours total overall or so with WWE 2K20 (Standard), according to Steam - as I did play a few hours here & there outside of MyCareer (before tackling this mode).

I have finished MyCareer Mode - for the most part, I really enjoyed it. It was good & feels like a nice evolution, in many ways, to the format that began with WWE 2K19.

MyCareer in 2K20 always tries to keep things fresh, somehow - despite going on for the 20-25 hours it goes on for. By playing out like a Greatest Hits for matches & constantly changing up the match types, you don't get a feeling of fatigue that many previous WWE 2K games' MyCareer modes since 2K15 have had. You don't get caught up in the stuck in a feud with a certain wrestler for matches in a row & maybe get a different match type near the end of the feud.

You also have two wrestlers here, one male and one female, so you don't get tired of doing the same moves, same skills, etc. over & over, match after match - especially if you build your Create-A-Wrestlers differently with their moves, skills, etc. For example, I made Red more a Luchador/High-Flyer, yet made Tre a Technical Wrestler; this game will stay fresh. Also, the game will even have you play as other wrestlers when need to be, to even facilitate the story & to keep stuff fresh.

While MyCareer at times does feel like its story does get a bit crazy, ridiculous, and over-the-top - yes, even for something as over-the-top as wrestling is - it's still most of the time usually fun, entertaining, hilarious, and has enough variety to remain fresh, even after the 20 hours or so it goes for.

But, here's the Buyer Beware part. My God, the bugs & issues! While they (WWE 2K games since 2K15) always had some issues & most there were minor, it's really gotten to another realm here in 2K20. I've literally had issues that after a few hours of playing, the controller suddenly stops working and you're stuck with keyboard/mouse controls...unless you quit out or reboot the PC. That's not good at all for a game best played with a controller. Never had that issue in other WWE PC games (since 2K15). So, you'll have to exit the game and start it up again; or reboot the PC and boot the game up fresh. I've had the game crash-to-desktop; Blue Screen of Death and reboot my PC (only game on my SC15 that I've ever seen do this on W10 ever); and other non-sense.

More Buyer Beware incoming. The physics of the ropes might glitch-out, but at least it now bounces back in place; still noticeable though. Sometimes, wrestlers animations for moves...look & go way too fast. I've had wrestlers get stuck on the ground...unable to get up in the match and move, despite the controller still working (to pause, go to menus, etc). So, if you can handle the bugs - you'll like the game, if you like the WWE 2K series. It's more WWE 2K19, but better in many ways...except for the bugs (the biggest problem); some hit & miss w/ characters not looking like the real-life wrestlers/characters & counterparts; and/or other non-sense.

Still, this all is nowhere as probably as bad as many of the issues I've had with other games like Deadly Premonition 1 on the PC - but this one here (WWE 2K20) isn't good on that stuff either. This bugginess still can be a deal breaker for many - and honestly, understandably so.

never go G2A.

And here we are, 5 years later, with morans still going G2A...

Fall Guys free on PSN for console peasants with Plus - https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP3643-CUSA17711_00-FALLGUYSPS4US000

One of the better games to be released from that Devolver Digital festival, imo. Strikes me as odd that they would make this and Carrion essentially free to play upon release, while charging for iterative snoozefests like Serious Sam 4 and Shadow Warrior 3.

Something screwy happened after the scheduled maintenence tonight. Lots of people reporting certain games missing from their Steam libraries. If you go to the store page for any of those games, it'll say it's in your library but there's no way to install or play it.

So that's neat.

Is this a glitch?

Or did the hurricane knock out some servers or something?

So I managed to win my very first match of Fall Guys, grabbed the crown with someone right behind me, second match I almost won but someone stole my tail with about 5 seconds left, then I proceeded to not make it to the final round the next 4 or so tries.  Pretty fun game, I'm good at the races but suck at the survival courses.  I definitely see it being more fun with a group of people than going at it solo, especially for the team courses since it will always match you up.

Lot of good cheap-o deals on Classic titles culturally appropriated by Bethesderp: $1.50 for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Arx Fatalis, Quakes I and II.  Of course there's stuff like New Vegas, Dishonored, etc. for $3 but I'm assuming most people here own the relatively recent titles.

There's like Bethesda sales everywhere - GOG, Steam, GMG, GamesPlanet, etc. QuakeCon and all.

Arx Fatalis was once free on Bethesda.Net Store and their launcher. And you can - and should - use Arx Libetatis, to get it to run. Which, of course, is a Source Port - and is not locked w/ DRM.

Regardless - hard to go wrong w/ Arx when it's dirt-cheap.

Same goes for the Quake franchise, Doom franchise, Wolf franchise, Fallout series (except FO76), and/or any of the Id and Bethesda Classics.

Dishonored 1 - always go Definitive/Complete. One can argue that the DLC's are better than the base-game, in many levels and instances. Also, since basically Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches sets up both the game-state and villain for the sequel (Dishonored 2), the DLC's are very important to the series. You'll lose a lot of context for the opening moments of Dishonored 2, if you skip Knife and Brigmore.

Also - RTCW runs pretty well with IORTCW Source Port. Yeah, Source Ports have no DRM, so...go nuts; buy wherever's cheapest, if you somehow don't own it.

For Doom classics (Doom1, Doom 2 and Final Doom) Hexen, Heretic - pick a Source Port. Plenty of them out there.  GZDoom's pretty good, IMHO.

For Quake 1, I use DarkPlaces Source Port; and for Quake 2, I use Yamagi Source Port.

Even funnier, when you consider Epic gave GTA5 PC version recently away for $0.00.

I do wonder what the heck's going on w/ GTA5 Remastered Again Edition, since it is supposed to be "Expanded" on. Are they adding more single-player content? Are they adding more GTA Online content?

Personally, I hope it's more of the former, not the latter...even though it's likely to be the latter.

And I hope even if they change "Season Pass" money here on PC for new single-player content - if they add new big maps, new content, new missions, and whatnot to the PC...that we can buy it.

I can really see AAA companies w/ the top AAA franchises (like say GTA, Red Dead Redemption, etc), for better and/or for worse (more likely the latter, TBH - as this can make stuff go even more so at a Premium), going that Halo: Infinite route for a whole console's life-cycle, just releasing Expansions Galore, Season Passes galore, and DLC's Galore (i.e. the Destiny 1+2 route) - until they decide to push a new game out for the next upcoming shiny console.
