Yep. I took over the Tex-Mex restaurant and upgraded the slots with an infirmary and beds and whatnot it but I had the feeling if I didn't bother and just stayed in the church I could have beat the game just as well. I rarely paid attention to people's stats, it's not like you have to bother specializing. Switch to a new character if your current is tired and shoot things/beat them in the head, etc. I completely ignore the other groups aside from the story missions as trading is pointless. They went to so much trouble to set up the framework and it's largely ignorable.

Apparently you can find people with special skills like mechanics and scientists and whatnot but... why bother? I can just grab one of the dozens of cards sitting around the sitting if my current one breaks. Why do I need a library? I set up outposts but I could probably have just skipped that, too. It's not as if the zombies ever siege your base.

Not denying they've been good about supporting their games, just that at some point they're going to stop.

Not for nothing, but I have playtime elsewhere and it's not like I haven't looked into the game, and you don't need to have hours dumped into it to draw conclusions based on their behaviour.

I could believe they'll support KF1 with events until KF2 is finished being set-up.

+1. I bought the "dead" game cause I know I'm not buying KF2 day 1, and I've enjoyed what I've played of it elsewhere. I doubt the community'll die overnight, and I think I can get my money's worth until then. The sequel's existence doesn't make the first game any less fun.

Re: State of Decay, "untapped potential" is exactly how I feel about it. Which is why their next project is so hyped, since it's supposedly going to be a MMO. The claim is that State of Decay was kind of a test run, which makes sense. Hopefully they can take what they learned and really tap into that potential that State of Decay didn't.

I'm a little annoyed they decided not to add co-op after all like they said they would though (in favour of working on their next game, and giving people more of a reason to want to buy it).

I know how you feel... I got locked out until the 29th as well because I logged in on my iPad mini that was "not recognized" by Steam as one of my devices, even though I had made purchases on steam earlier that day using the exact same device. What I find ironic is that steam blocks you from trading on the market in case of identity theft, yet they have no problem with allowing you to make purchases from the Steam Store. Well at least I know that my Steam trading cards will be save should my account ever get hacked, lol...

So way back in the Steam Winter Sale, I was doing tons of gifting over on /v/ and gave away quite a bit. Now, 7 some months later, I get a message asking if I was the guy that gifted him a certain game. I say I wasn't positive, but it sounds about right. He asks me what game I want. I told him I was kind of taken aback by his generosity and that he didn't have to buy me anything. He mentioned something about repaying his debts, but that's the thing. I gifted him a game. There were no terms or conditions, it was a gift. He's insisting he buys me something though. Nice to know there are people like him out there.

Purchases are easier to reverse than trades. They can be removed, but if traded there might be need to return items to who was traded with. Then there might be additional trades using those items and Valve might need to duplicate items, which is a loss to Valve.

Yeah, I've been on a quest to craft badges for the bonus summer cards (which had been fairly profitable thus-far). Now that I can't do that until Sunday....I'm at a loss at what to do. I mean, PLAY the games I have?! Absurd.

I at least had a set of Surgeon Simulator cards to craft that badge...so I'll get the bonus for today luckily (plus a chance at free games because GO RED TEAM GO!).

If I buy rayman legends on steam will it activate on uplay so I wouldn't have to have steam open to play. I don't like having a bunch of clients running at once

No. It always uses Steam and UPlay if you buy it on Steam. All the UPlay games on Steam are like this. If you don't want both clients then buy it somewhere else.

FWIW it uses a lite version of UPlay that you can set to always launch in offline mode after the very first time you run the game and really isn't obtrusive, but I realize having two clients is against some people's religions.

Late on this but I did buy Garden Warfare and am enjoying it so far. Very smooth look to it.

I'll also say that I like how in the Lego Movie game, a checkpoint isn't really a checkpoint...

Plus if every time you logged in on a new device Steam kept you from buying for 15 days, that'd probably cost them money.

I play it almost exclusively solo. It has enough levels of difficulty that you can usually adjust it to keep it challenging for you though the online community is really good so you should give it a try.

That's probably the worst comparison. TF2 is a PvP game. KF is a PvE game with a focus on co-op. The enemies in KF don't change between solo and co-op play.

I'm not condoning it, I'm just indifferent to it because for all practical purposes in my experience it hasn't intruded on my playing my games or caused me any problems whatsoever. I'm not going to be a lemming and hate on something because that's the thing to do or because I don't like how the idea of it sounds when the implementation is not troublesome or intrusive to me. There's no reason for me to hate it and quite frankly I like have all my games connected to my Steam account with or without UPlay.

If it bugs you so much there's 8 other stores (counting Greenman) selling the straight up UPlay version plus maybe boxed retail if you can find it. And if that bugs you you can always wait years for GOG to get it. Your choice.

I had a buddy in high school that I had bought lunch for one time, and he insisted on paying me back. Something about settling up before he went on his mission.

I just assumed if KF2 comes out then the online community will gradually drift over to that.

Yeah, but all Co-op does is add more zeds for difficulty. When I solo I do all the same stuff I do in co-op. Run to the trader. Choose my spot. Weld doors. Heal myself, etc. It's a different difficulty when I'm having to do all that myself as opposed to having dedicated healers and welders on a team.

Yeah, but I have a hunch 1 will remain somewhat popular until KF2 gets out of EA or goes on sale.

Well there in (I would think) lies most of the fun. Harder difficulty requiring people to specialize.

 
The way I see it, the best option is to collect all of the KF DLC one piece at a time through Steamgifts over several years without ever playing it. But I guess waiting just as long for a 75% off sale works, too.

Just play with randoms if you don't have friends to play with. Still better than playing solo imo.

I see you've already bought it and have received several good answers, but I'll add this: Killing Floor is best in co-op, but it can definitely be done solo. Each is a very different experience.

Solo: Is probably best done at low difficulty until you reach the appropriate perk level and learn a lot about the game. You really need to know the map well, and you have to be able to deal quickly and decisively with each type of zed (the bad guys) because there's no one there to cover your ass, and a little thing like a poorly-timed reload can mean death. There's little room for error at higher difficulty levels.

Co-op: Stick to lower difficulty servers until you raise your perk levels. Difficulty in KF is quite different from other FPS games in that it doesn't really refer to your personal skill at playing games, but rather your perk level. Higher level perks grant you vital things like faster reload, better stopping power, and more starting funds. You will be a detriment with a level 0 character on a Nightmare/Hell on Earth level server and will probably get kicked.

But don't let that scare you - like I said stay at lower levels until you learn and raise your perks. Playing a level 0 guy on Normal still won't be a cakewalk. The community is generally friendly as long as you follow the perk/difficulty rules and stick with the team. Learn what each perk excels at doing and stick to that -- don't be a Rambo! People get annoyed when they have to keep rescuing team mates that try to go solo.

My KF strategy that only works in co-op. Find a small room and lock yourself in it. Don't open them for anything. Not even your teammates. Think happy thoughts and pretend that the screams are classical music and the blood is candy. Hopefully your team can handle the rest.
