RDR only didn't get ported because there were issues doing it, so it took too long.

They've done several successful PC ports since, no issues, so I don't expect a repeat of that any time soon.

To be fair, MS never made an announcement saying they were shutting down GFWL. Everyone just jumped the gun because of rumours.

Considering how shitty GFWL was, it's probably best they moved to Steamworks.

Actually, they probably let it live (for now) because many companies still haven't finished migrating their games out of GFWL.

As much as I hate Rockstar, and think they'd be capable of doing so, they may not want to let their GTA4 cash cow die just yet.

I'm not so sure about that, Bobby. In the last year, how many companies scrambled to ditch GFWL? The games that made the move were a mix of new and very old. You can bet they were getting strong signals from Microsoft or they'd have never spent the money.

At best, Microsoft is guilty of waffling on their support of the platform which is probably worse than just outright admitting it needed to die.

While I'm not gonna deny that the removal of the GFWL store was a bad omen, I still never saw any actual proof of GFWL's shutdown. Just rumours and the AOE shutoff date.

I think people got worked up over mostly nothing. I get that devs/pubs switched over, but what if they were just acting on the rumours? I don't think any of them definitively came forward and confirmed the shutdown.

Look, I know you get tagged with :newbie: all the time, so I want to cut you some slack, but you've got to put on your big business hat here. Making massive changes to videogames isn't cheap and most companies don't do it unless they must.

While you and I may not have heard "the official word", there's no doubt that there was a catalyst that made all of these publishers react the way that they did. You can bet that "mostly nothing" wasn't a sufficient excuse for spending major dough when the CEO got on the investors call in the boardroom at the end of the year.

Sadly, still allot of truth in that but I still think this generation's shared architecture is going to make the PC more "relevant" when it comes to games that would had previously been left off of the PC... It might take a bit longer considering the console game makers likely view PS3/360 as better investments at this point in time.
