I didn't notice this before but the Dreamcast Collection games (Crazy Taxi, SEGA Bass Fishing, Sonic Adventure DX and Space Channel 5 Part 2) were all updated last month, the same patch notes for all 4:

  • Fixed an issue where the launcher would fail to save settings.
  • Added support for v-sync and FXAA.
  • Now renders correctly at higher resolutions (above 720).
  • Added Steam Achievements.
  • Improved button prompts—now supports gamepad button prompts, and keyboard prompts are sensitive to user configurations.
  • Keyboard controls can now be reconfigured.
  • Implemented gamepad support across the game and launcher
Sonic Adventure also has "Removed horizontal borders" so I guess it's not stuck at 4:3 anymore?

Says the guy who's whining about someone else getting a free game and how they don't deserve to keep it because "Wah I didn't get one."

It's still 4:3. The note about no horizontal borders is a lie.

lel at TimeShift still being $20 in the Steam store. It's not a very good game, especially when compared to The Witcher, which dropped to half the MSRP in half the time.
Why are we comparing a FPS to a RPG?

Anyways, TimeShift doesn't have anything on FEAR 1 + HL2.

I'm not sure what's worse - Halo 1 or TimeShift. Both weren't that good on the SP component, IMHO.

you take that back  .. HALO was the genre changing game. It was legendary for its time in both single player and multiplayer components. I have had many hours of quality LAN killing Covenants with friends on Xbox over beer & pizza (besides Counter Strike)

Nope.

While it might've been groundbreaking on the console b/c there were no other somewhat decent FPS's done properly w/ a gamepad-controls back then...

...Halo 1: Combat Evolved on the PC was just another FPS on the PC. First half of SP was great loaded w/ variety, while in the 2nd half - especially after the boring Flood hits, the combat gets dull and the game starts to have a good deal of cut + paste (monitor levels, anyone?) + backtracking.

MP was fun - but again, it wasn't anything special.

Give me UT series; Quake 2 + 3; FEAR 1; STALKER: SoC + CoP; Half-Life series; RTCW original + ET; and numerous other FPS's over Halo 1 PC.

I'm only speaking of Halo 1 here.

So, until I get Halo 2 PC and the actual rest of the Halo series hits the PC - I cannot unfortunately speak on how much they've improved, devolved, or stayed stagnant since the original.

Sure, I've played some of the other Halo's on my nephew's XBox w/ a controller - but, that's not for enough time to make a real judgement + opinion. Unless I can sit down w/ a game; take it home; and play it through for a few days, weeks, or whatever - I'm gonna withhold any sort of judgement on the entire thing.

Removal of horizontal border doesn't imply removal of 4:3 ratio
But there are horizontal borders.

Big ugly purple and blue ones.

Besides that I was simply answering his question about wether or not it was still 4:3.

i'm talking halo 1 also. i agree with what your saying in this post but comparing halo to timeshift compelled me to sign on and post (good job) lol

Wait a goddamn minute why the fuck would there be horizontal borders in the first place? Letterboxing is usually used to make a widescreen image fit into a standard def screen. What the hell would be the point of adding letterboxing to a standard def image on a widescreen display. This whole fucking concept just broke my brain.

You could do it to fill out 1080p fullscreen when you can only run in 720p maximum. Yeah, it's basically windowed mode with a really huge border, but I've seen games do it.

EDIT: Like Sonic Adventure DX, even.

Yes but this game is barely 480p increasing resolution only upscales that. So what the way they used to do things was to just render the game at 480p and just increase the size of the border the more the resolution went up? That would look terrible.

I'll even take Singularity over Halo 1.
singularity is pretty decent. timeshift is pretty.. generic.

and I think we disagree on Halo 1 b/c the difference in version here. I never play Halo PC and I think you never play Halo Xbox. ok.. i lied, i picked up Halo PC & played it a bit at a friend house but it didn't really strike me as spectacular (must be Gearbox fault.. they ported it, not Bungie). the PC version never gave me that magical feeling I had when I play it on Xbox. I had a blast when playing the Xbox version and that the one I spent every Friday night gaming with friends.

Halo is pretty good. It holds up pretty well as I could still tolerate playing it today, whereas most shooters from 10+ years ago are now poop.

All I'm gonna say about original Halo is that I was actually able to beat it on legendary difficulty with the pistol only.

I can't say I've played too many other games of this type where I felt I could beat the entire game with the starting weapon.

That gun was a beast.

Physically attractive in the same way Nicki Minaj is all-natural, you mean.

I'm comparing two talentless sluts this time, MyD.

Yawn, i cant wait til this franchise dies
I never understood why people wish for the death of any franchise.

I mean sure you may not personally enjoy it but that doesn't mean that anyone should deprive others enjoyment of it.

I don't like most sports games but I'm not about to wish for all sports games to be taken off the market. The minute you remove something that a person likes from the world is the minute that person loses something that gives them joy. It may even be the only thing that brings them joy for all anyone knows. Without something, anything at all to give that person joy they may find joy in other things. Perhaps even taking joy in tormenting or even killing people. That's an extreme example but it has actually happened in the past.
