Have you actually played Magicka? Believe it or not, it's actually really fucking good.

It's entirely meant to be played in coop. You can have some fun in SP, but you'll hit a brick wall in difficulty pretty soon so I wouldn't recommend it. Doesn't make it a bad game by any means though.
When it first came out it was a bit of a mess (I know that's really hard to believe for a Paradox game) and the online multiplayer wasn't that playable and would crash a lot so you were kind of stuck with the single player.

So to answer Idiot's question yes I played it. In fact it was the first Steam game I ever owned back in 2011 so backlogging it wasn't really an option at the time. It was okay in really goofy quirky cartoony version of Gauntlet sort of way (which is funny because apparently the Magicka devs are the ones doing the new Gaunlet). It wasn't the most amazing game ever but decent enough for the $5 I paid for it on sale, which in retrospect seems like a King's Ransom for that game. This was also before it was on sale 800,000 times and before it become an app store for DLC.

Did you blast the guy into the round pit in level 5? Tell me you blasted the guy into the round pit in level 5.

I know I talk about these Vodo bundles so much people probably assume I'm some sort of shill for the site, but I found this so astounding I had to share it. When we last left the Cork Film Festival bundle, the countdown timer (a few weeks ago?) had been reset to 30 days. I check on the page today and I see this:

I think somebody finally has Bundlestars beat in the "how-long-can-I-make-my-bundle-last-without-calling-it-a-permanent-price-drop" contest.

I'm bundled out.  I was never a +1 collector and the number of bundles I've bought over the last year or so is in rapid decline.  Last week I was given a slew of bundle fodder for free including Thunder Wolves, X-Com Derp Bureau, and ReignMaker.  They're fun little games that I'd probably play if it were 1998 when most people rarely got more than a couple of games a month but I find myself gravitating more to quality titles that offer more replay value/longevity.  Still trucking through Div OS and keep playing State of Derpcay Breakdown hoping for a good challenge once I get to level 50 or so.  Sometimes you stumble on a gem but the vast majority of bundle games today are utterly forgettable experiences.

Today's free Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms DLC is the Support Starter Pack. Tomorrow should be the Recon Pack.
Re: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms

Something about Clancy games, I've got to collect them all. It's a strange thing. Since, from his modern lineup, I only really got into: Graw, Hawx & R6 Vegas 1/2.
The game box art has got the hook in me, with that M1A EBR Sopmod (Sage) Rifle. I love those things.

Bureau taken in the context of bundle fodder is an interesting idea. It's the kind of game that I would probably be very forgiving of it was something 1C put out, but found quite frustrating in the context of the AAA game environment.

Better squad AI (pathfinding especially) would have made that game magnitudes better.

All of the discussions today have gotten me thinking. What are some games that have been heavily bundled and had their value shot all to hell that you think are worth it at even a #fakecag 50% off? (Ain't no one buying retail) What are some AAA games you think would only be worth getting in a bundle?

Edit: Bonus points if you include a sentence or short capsule review

A lot of the games topping my Playtime list on Steam have been bundled a lot. I'd say I've gotten my money's-worth out of those, but I'd rarely suggest anyone pay more than 50% if a game has been heavily bundled.

1. Borderlands 2

2. Killing Floor

3. Borderlands

4. Defense Grid

5. Supreme Commander 2

I liked the setting but found it tedious and boring after the first few missions.

Steam Motoki is less sarcastic than CAG Motoki :D/
You sure take a lot of interest in what I say and do for someone who no one here knows who the hell you are.

And it's an informational thread that mainly exists to help people keep track of the many games that were in bundles and later give Steam keys well after the bundles have ended. There's really not a lot of room for opinioning. That said, since you're such a fan I will note that I gave Girl Power the what for on her White Knight crusades a couple of times in the past before I put her on ignore.

Okay, I gotta ask.

What's the word on DayZ...?  Its been a top-seller now for many months.  Its been written about in magazines.  Its all over Twitch and YouTube.  Yet its still in Early Access(...speaking of which, Early Access is either a gimmick that excuses devs from having bug-ridden games, or serves as a fair warning to buy at your own risk, depending upon your point of view.)

I know the title we see now is actually a formalized, improved, bigger-budgeted version of the Arma II mod.  But is the game fun?  What's its hook?  All I ever hear about it is that players just gang up and then kill each other over the slightest provocation....like any other shooter.

I ask that question sincerely; I'm a controller user, so its not for me in its current state.  But I'm intrigued by its sales and its popularity - over 11,000 people are playing it right this moment, in fact.  (according to Enhanced Steam.)

My best friend has the game and he says that is what he loves about the game and all he does. He says getting a group of friends together and just seeing how long you all can survive while trying to kill other people, all while in a zombie apocalypse is the attraction for him. He also says that the game is not fun solo, and he will not touch it unless one of his friends want to play.

My friend will buy anything and love anything zombies. For him, he thinks it's worth it if you have a group to play with. For me, idk I have tried it for about 30 minutes and it seems pretty slow paced and not entertaining to me. To each their own though.

My recommendation, try and find a friend who has the game and try it via their account. That is what I did.

the setting of tl2 is pretty much the worst part...generic fantasy and generic graphics/art style
It was alright. I liked the enemy design and the music was really good. The extreme procedural style of loot turned me off. Defeating this huge crazy boss only to get bad loot (Sometimes even worse than what you'd get on a common enemy). I like procedural when it's done right, like in Borderlands 2. Loot was random, but at least you were guaranteed decent stuff from bosses/chests.

The Cat Lady, even though she's gotten around more than a two dollar whore.

[customspoiler=Long ass review cut and pasted from Steam]
The Cat Lady is one of the most unique and moving games I've ever had the experience to play. The story deals with Susan Ashworth a 40 year old woman who tries to commit suicide but fails and then has to struggle to find the will to live.

There's very much a horror element but not without reason or for shock value. Everything has a reason, a purpose and a meaning and while the game can be very dark and graphic I felt that fit with Susan's view of the world and other people in general.

I'm normally not interested in horror stories at all, but I feel that this is an emotional journey with a necessary horror backdrop to bring you into Susan's dark world of despair. I also felt that the unique art style of the game, which seems almost like an animated paper diorama, and the surreal nature of the game in general for me did help mitigate the horror aspect a bit. For those avoiding this game due to the horror factor I urge you to reconsider and push through it even in the areas that are disturbing. The ultimate experience I feel is very much worth it.

In spite of some very unrealistic situations, I found Susan to be one of the most realistically portrayed characters I've ever encountered in a video game. The dynamic between Susan and Mitzi, a young girl she encounters and assists her on her journey, was also excellent and a great contrast.

The game is voice acted and the cast on the whole is excellent, particularly Susan. With every tone of her voice you really do feel her pain and her struggle.

The ending for me was very satisfying, realistic and even uplifting. It was a great closure to a moving experience. Though note that there are multiple endings and even one extra special one that feels like a gift if you work to get it.

I would recommend anyone who is interested in non-standard video game experiences that really make you think, feel and see different points of view to play The Cat Lady and to please stick with it and not be put off by the horror. The experience of the game taken as a whole is very much worth it.[/customspoiler]

I've just recently started up Torchlight 2 and have found myself enjoying the looting quite a bit. I don't know that I agree about the graphics/art style being "generic". The real problem, in my opinion, is the writing -- that is completely generic.

The art, on the other hand, is quite attractive. The enemies and bosses are pretty fun to look at, and the backgrounds are techincally exceptional. Having said that, I don't know that the locales really break much ground, but really, how varied can swamps, deserts, and haunted bogs really be when it all comes down to it?

The writing is bad. Generic evil villain, generic Macguffin, blah blah blah. That is what makes me appreciate Borderlands 2 even more. The main focus of the game is shooting and looting, but they put so much detail into the writing as well that it makes going into new game plus and redoing missions a pleasure, rather than a chore. I'd say the writing is my favorite part of the game, even moreso than the gameplay.

Funny thing is they hired a 'professional writer' for TL2 and the writing is actually worse than TL1.  Borderlands 2 writing... well... I don't get why people like Anthony Burch's awful humor.

It's not everyone's taste of humor, but I enjoyed the crass immature humor immensely. And Handsome Jack and Tiny Tina of course are fun.

Tiny Tina makes me want to punch Burch's wife eye-are-el.  Yep, I went there -- the voiceover is that bad.  Handsome Jack is meh.  Too much of the time it tries way too hard to be funny to the point where it's a parody of its own bad humor.  I thought things were fine in Borderlands 1 without having to go into internet meme territory.

Above clip is an example of what worked.  Unfortunately stuff like that was in the minority in favor of aforementioned memes.

If this is still free as of my post I'd like to try it out(and I'm surprised I don't have it already). Thanks!
Spodered!

Need I say more?
Apparently not!

I'd like this if it's still available please!
All yours!

Magicka is awesome, and I do stuff that my dentist would tell me to avoid every time someone talks shit about it. (For the crime of BEING ON SALE TOO MUCH!?)

By any chance, is Finding Teddy still available?
All yours. I quite liked this one.

Oh yeah, those are all good, too. Especially Defense Grid and Killing Floor.

I should play those...

...And those.

That's funny, because I enjoy the silliness of everything you mentioned above, yet I feel violently ill every time I read more than a sentence of your commentary. :whistle2:k

I agree w/ this.

I actually like the cartoony looking steampunk-ish + fantasy look mixed together.

But - it's the writing, prose, and character depth in Torchlight 2 that is nothing special. But, was that ever going to be special? No, not really.

Gamers playing Torchlight 2 should be there for the cool art-design; non-stop action; non-stop flow of loot; + constant upgrading flow (upgrading loot + skills; and leveling-up). Since a lot of this feels mechanically A LOT similar to Diablo 2 in particular - this is as addictive as can be.

If gamers want story + character in an ARPG - they should be playing something else...like say Divine Divinity.

While the story + writing is really good in DD - unfortunately DD's has voice-acting that's all over-the-place, ranging from horrible to decent. They should've went the Shadowrun Returns route in DD - if they ain't gonna have + pay f or having decent voice-acting, just voice-act NOTHING.

Same here. I preferred BL2 base-game's story-telling + humor over the original. I thought it was a major improvement. Hell, as much as I loved BL1 (for being so fresh + so new at that time, mixing FPS gameplay mechanics w/ loot-crazy ARPG elements - it certainly did that A LOT better than Hellgate: London), I prefer everything about BL2 over BL1.

And I agree - for me, I loved Handsome Jack (what a great villain) + the always hilarious Tiny Tina.

I think the art looks good enough, but the whole time i was playing all I could think of was world of warcraft or something like that

also, i agree that the writing is absolutely horrid. i caught on to that pretty quickly, though, and just skipped through all the cutscenes and just enjoyed the mindless gameplay

I have only played the ARMA2 mod but . . . my friends and I did a private server. Half the fun was just trying to find ways to get into town, loot up, and make it out alive. Sometimes we'd be sneaky, other times we'd go crashing thru town on an ATV grabbing stuff and zooming away. Definitely not for the solo player.

Orcs Must Die franchise and Defense Grid franchise.
