I've been trying to sell this Saints Row profile background for 3 cents ever since Steam trading cards started... and someone just bought it! :bouncy:

I've been trying to figure out if we're under an invasion by a race of serpent people with a fetish for asians ever since you and solid starting posting closely together. I've got my eye on you.

Writing notes actually activates different neurological pathways than typing them does. Supposedly its helps people retain information better but I haven't read the study closely enough to see if there was mitigating factors.

The best way to retain information is to teach it back to yourself. With teaching, you'll quickly find the gaps in your knowledge and see how efficiently you can explain things.

I rejogged my memory about dangling participial phrases the other day and participial sounded like marsupial, so I just pictured a baby kangaroo dangling from a pouch. I've yet to find a way to tie that into verbs modifying nouns, but it's a start.

Very true. This is why I used to write instructional articles about writing techniques I've learned and used. I still have a very vivid recollection of the methods I wrote about. I should get back to that, but now I've got one of those normal jobs that everyone talks about.

Finding the time can be hard. But even if it's just thirty minutes in the morning that little bit makes a world of difference. Only problem is the motivation, heh.

I've never been a fan of the "one size fits all" approach. Specifically, whatever people said worked for them didn't work for me.

I'm reasonably clever* but I never worked out how to study properly. The only time I ever put any serious effort into anything was for my professional exams which were HARD.

I tried and tried and tried and nothing really sunk in. Then I tried writing out my notes (large chunks of text at a time) followed by typing up said notes and making mneomnics to help me memorise key sections.

Ask me how I memorised every section of the FSA handbook with silly mnemonics like Peter Crouch Can't Dance. I'm great fun at dinner parties.

:whee:

P.s. Cardinal rule - you'll forget everything as soon as you've finished the exam.

As a recent graduate this past May, I can absolutely attest to this. IF the course/material itself was useless. I've had courses in my major that were strict rote memorization, the ones I had, yet love, because someone else can do the study guide and I can memorize it; there are other courses that make me analyze ideas, typically through discussion/essays. But in those memorization courses and even in the discussion courses, if I didn't care or it was obviously superfluous information, why remember?

Games man, games.

SUMMA CUM LAUDE, REPRESENT!

EDIT, Anyone willing to trade me Ichi?: "Steam keys release for all Indie Gala Mobile 2 bundle buyers for Ichi!

Check your IndieGala profiles now for Ichi on Steam if you bought Indie Gala Mobile 2 back in July 2012! "

Anyone else besides me and Spodes watch The Strain tonight?

I liked the show overall, but the dialogue was noticeably cheesy and the plot movements were annoyingly predictable. But I thought everything aside from the weak writing was enjoyable (visuals, acting, etc). Will probably stay for the season before I write off the show unless the writing becomes unbearably bad.
I just finished watching it. I thought it was pretty neat and a slightly different take on a couple of genres. I think it definitely has potential.

Millennium 2 Steam keys are up on Groupees if you bought Build a Bundle 5 or Groupees Spotlight. Better take advantage of those buy orders while they're high!

I was talking to my wife yesterday about copying some MP3's from her and said I needed to "Spoder those".  Then she looked at me as though she regretted breeding with me.

Haven't watched it yet, but it's recorded. How would you compare it to Helix (if you watched that)?
I had never even heard of Helix until spoder mentioned it to me last night. The only "Syfy" shows I've heard of in the last year are Being Human and Defiance, Helix totally fell under the radar.

That's how I felt about the book. I didn't like it that much and chose not to read the rest of the trilogy. Maybe I'll give the show a chance.
I didn't read the books, but my dad has read all three. He seems to prefer the books to the show so far, so I'm assuming the books are at least slightly better written.

Is this what you two do on date nights?
That and play Perfect Dark HD. Perfect Dark is a weird fucking game, man.

Anyways, you're just jealous you weren't a part of it like our tennis threesome. :p

Yeah but after the first few insane weeaboos buy it's all downhill from there.
Yeah but those weaboos keep my Steam wallet good. What? Rare Agarest background? Gimme that 10 bucks! Huh, waifu foil? 15 bucks!

Unf looks like Millenium 2 is one I don't have. lol don't know how that happened. Stupid company. Splitting a game into 5 parts and selling it on different sites. So confuse.

Hey all, have been having some difficulty keeping up with the thread enough to post responses, but I'm still here.  Now that I've broken my Marvel Puzzle Quest addiction I've actually been playing my other games, and thought I'd offer a few thoughts:

Magic 2014 - enjoyed this a lot.  Put in 22 hours so far, and I think it's time for a break, but I wouldn't be surprised to return to it in the future.  The unlocking process is slow, so I've only played 3 different decks, plus one round of sealed deck.  I really like the three pre-built decks I played though (the default green big creature, enchantress deck, blue illusion deck).  Nice cards and concepts.  I've enjoyed playing this as least as much as 2011, and much more than 2012 which I found lackluster to the point that I ended up skipping 2013.  With a deckbuilder feature I could continue to mess around with this version for many more hours; thus, I may investigate the mods Dr Sasquatch mentioned at one point.  Highly recommended for anyone interested, although if you missed the last sale you might be out of luck as 2015 is right around the corner.

edit: Just remembered I meant to add: google the promo codes for free unlocks for your decks! You can get 10 unlocks by typing in these codes.  It helps a lot.

DLC Quest: I enjoyed this a surprising amount.  The satire was great fun and the mechanics were just good enough to get me through the first quest in half an hour without getting bored.  I'm not sure if I have the patience for the second quest, though.  I started it and although the humor is still good, collecting coins is starting to wear thin.

Botanicula: finally got around to finishing the second half of this after starting it many moons ago.  I loved it! It prompted me to write my first review in ages: "If you are looking for a unique and imaginative experience, this is it. It happens to be a very well-constructed, atmospheric, and charming adventure game as well, but what really sets it apart is its personality. This game allows you to relive the sense of wonder you had about the world as a child. It only took me four hours to complete and I enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommended!"

Super Hexagon: I'm too old.  Holy shit my reflexes suck.

Suguri: tried it when it first came out, wouldn't launch.  Nice.  It's been patched a couple times since then, so maybe I'll give it another go.

Man, it feels good to play games again.  I can't wait to knock out some more of this backlog.  Anyway, hope these thoughts were helpful to someone.

Up to 90% off games you don't want and 50% or less off games you might want.

I doubt it, but has anyone here played the singing game?  If so, does it make you play the original vocal track?  My wife likes karaoke games but hates that most of them have the vocal tracks playing as well so it's less karaoke and more "singing along to the radio".

Shootmania looks great, I've been eyeing that game for a long time. The reviews say there aren't a lot of players but ES says there's 118 players playing right now, which isn't great but it's not the deserted game some are making out.

Edit: thinking about it some more. 118 players world wide, most of them are going to be in Europe at this time of day. I think I'll pass and wait for it to be bundled. Surely they'll bundle it at some point to try and raise the player base.

Hmm, Roogoo at 90% off for only 29 cents, maybe I'll throw some card money at it.  Let's see what kind of game it is...

"You already own Roogoo"

Ahem.  Guess I'll just escort myself out then...

Humble has Intake at 80% off ($0.99) for the next ~24 hours. It's never been that low and it was only bundled once with a bunch of repeats at the $6 tier in a weekly.

Yeah, it'll probably be bundled again, but that's not a bad price if you've been waiting for a good sale.

I was thinking of Last Express as well and then maybe checking the Putin price for Arkash.

Anyone play that yet? It seems like something Mooby would be interested in but then play and call it Derplash Legacy and say it sucks.

I was looking at arklash but I have a feeling it's bundle material due to the pub

Gamefly has the Transformer games for 75% off including Fall of Cybertron for $14.95 less the 20% coupon code ($11.99). I believe that's as low as it's been.

On my cell phone so no links for you.

Completely unrelated to any recent discussion - I'd like to thank everyone who ever recommended Sleeping Dogs over the past couple years.

I finally started it last week & finished the main story-line (and most of the side-stuff) yesterday.  Had a great time with it.  I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who has it sitting in their backlog.  It's worth playing.

It also re-kindled a forgotten interest in Asian cinema.  Spurring me to re-watch some things I hadn't seen in a while (Time & Tide, Hard Boiled, and Sonatine) as well as give a few other movies a shot that weren't even really on my radar (The Man from Nowhere, The Raid).  Recommend all of them also.

And now back to your regularly scheduled deals, bundle fodder and keys discussions.

Humble Daily Bundles are back and rebranded as Flash Bundles.  The first is the Codemasters re-Bundle:

"Pay what you want for Rise of the Argonauts, Overlord with Raising Hell DLC, Operation Flashpoint: Red River and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Pay $6 or more for all of the above plus DiRT Showdown, DiRT 3 and Overlord II."

Definitely getting the $1 tier since I don't have any of the games. I'll think about getting the $6 tier but I don't know.

Good $1-tier on that Weekly. $6-tier would be better if Dirt 3 wasn't a GFWL game (they say they're removing it but it still hasn't happened), but oh well.

I bought the $6-tier way back when and didn't regret dumping $2.50 for each Dirt title. Haven't played Overlord 2 yet, so can't comment on that.

$6-tier worth really depends on how much you like racing/stunt games. Have you ever played a Dirt game before?
