I've played TES Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion (I think maybe battlespire too), and never could get much into them. Don't know why, because I had a fun time while playing.

On the other hand, I'm a Fallout addict, I spent 30hs straight (with no other game in the middle) on New Vegas before I had to force myself into taking a break (30hs, for me and my gametime, is a lot). Also spent a LOT more on FO3 (retail, at launch), but just because I had less responsibilities back then, because NV has better plots and dialogs.
I agree with some of the other folks here: if you're a big fan of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you really should enjoy Skyrim because they're very similar in terms of gameplay. Skyrim is much much better than Oblivion, but I haven't really spent much time with the earlier ES games.

I still have Skyrim shrink wrapped from a couple of years ago. The reason why it will stay that we way is because of the hours of gameplay people have told me about. I have too many games in the backlog to play one game for 300+ hours. Maybe in my dream world of me playing all of my backlog games I can finally give Skyrim a chance.

That is some fine logic you have there.

Well, I'll just point out that I spent just over half of that time playing through Skyrim and its expansions. You don't actually have to play it for hundreds or thousands of hours--it's a personal choice not an addiction. I was fairly thorough in my approach to that game but I could have done a lot more--I could have rolled more characters and tried some different playstyles; I could have redone some of the big questlines but made different major choices such as supporting the Imperials in the civil war or the vampires in Dawnguard. But I didn't because I had no real desire to do so. I was ready to move on to other games in my backlog. It was a great experience but I'll probably never play it again and I'm okay with that.

One Day for Ched is up for sale on steam now while still going through the greenlight process and it's published by Strategy First.  We'll see what happens with the keys from all of the bundles it was in, but I can see them saying it's a loophole to not have to give them out.

No keys will be issued.

My experience with FO3, Skyrim and Oblivion were all the same: Interest in this big, wide open world, exploration, realization that the blasted buildings all just held a few mutants, the lost tombs all had some Viking zombies guarding a barrel of potatoes, then I plow through the main quest and call it done.  I think what annoyed me most about Skyrim is how little the game cares about you: become the Archmage and the wizard at the starting town still says "Hey, if you like magic, you should go see the mage's college!", destroy the dragon threat and guards still say "Hey, maybe I'm the Dragonborn!" when they're not telling you to get lost.  For all their depth, they still felt fairly shallow to me in practice.

I realize I'm in the minority, of course.

GTA V for PC on January 27.

Which probably means March or July.

PS4/X1 versions are out on November 18.
Gotta get those idiots double dip on new-gen and PC :D

What's up with preorders including cheats ($500,000 money for each story mode)?

I thought preorder extras was supposed to get people preorder instead of pushing away.

(It's RSC, so Steams ability to disable DLC isn't necessarily supported).

Strategy First is the Harriet Tubman of the underground greenlight railroad.
I don't think Harriet Tubman made people pay to get on the railroad and then also made them pay again when they got to the end of the line.

No, I think everyone who's played Skyrim can relate to that complaint. It's not universal--some NPCs will acknowledge some of your significant achievements some of the time, but random guards will still make snarky comments to your face even when you've saved the world--and that is very weird. It genuinely doesn't seem like something that Bethesda would have had a hard time remedying but they didn't; however, there's probably a mod that does.

Lincoln didn't abolish slavery. He just made people call it indentured servitude.

I wish I could play games like that but it is almost like an addiction to me so I would try to beat the main quest but would do all the extra stuff. Never said it made sense but I play too much already and would probably stop eating, working or lane my man cave it would be like that wow episode of south park. That is also why I stay away from mmo.

I can respect that. People have to know their limitations. You should try to sell that copy of Skyrim if you're never going to play it, though. . . .

Of course, I just bought Skyrim for PS3 from best buy.

Every elder scrolls game takes a step forward in gameplay and a step back in world depth. Morrowind had opposing houses and factions, If you were head of a guild people wouldn't make those dumb comments in oblivion, the guilds in morrowind and oblivion were actually focused on for example, stealing in the thieves guild, not killing a baddie. The end result is the games are getting progressively more satisfying gameplay wise, but at the expense of a world that is becoming deep and detailed increasingly at strictly more and more superficial levels

Hmmm, Banished on humble store for $6. Fairly tempting.
Great little city builder. You won't get hundreds of hours out of it as a sandbox, since it is somewhat limited in the variety of buildings and the optimal way to expand your settlement. But the survival simulation is very well done and provides some pleasant and mildly anguishing entertainment as you try to drag your refugees through another winter.

... isn't the PS3 version horribly broken and Bethesda never fixed it? Something about save games causing the game to become incredibly slow and prone to crashing.
There's a bug that makes your save file balloon, which causes the game start to run like garbage when it reaches 75mb or so.

I want to pick up Lost Planet 1 and Remember Me, but I'm scared that a Capcom Humble Bundle would materialize to crush my soul later this year.
You should wait for Remember Me to be bundled because it's a terrible game and will crush your soul all on its own. Don't compound the problem by overpaying.

there's probably a mod that does.

Though I actually kinda like the guards' psychic precognition. I have zero bounty in any hold even though I am a burglar (and occasional pickpocket), and they keep telling me to keep my hands to myself.

I also like how guards with gigantic claymores strapped to their back keep telling me "You're like me, eh? Don't fancy those clunky two-handed weapons."

Wow, that hurt my eyeballs.

Man, that ain't nothin'.

The site is really hammered but you can get a free Knights and Merchants HD Steam key (the game is added to your account through Steam login) if you register at www.dlh.net/en/.  Existing accounts get it too.  It seems 1k keys are added per hour, and there is a 20k key limit per day, so if you don't get it today, you can try tomorrow.

This is the same place where they gave out Enclave and East India Company Gold Edition.

Considering they have Enclave keys left after a year. It's pretty safe to say they are not running out anytime soon. :p

Oh I bought the game a month ago! Got it for like three bucks. I just haven't tried it yet.

And please, if Microsoft ported the games to Steam they'd just make us buy them all over again instead of letting us activate the game with our serial codes. Bleh.
Oh, I'd love to see Gears of War 1 brought to Steam.

And the rest of series ported over to Steam, since Gears 2 and newer ain't hit the PC.

EDIT:

Gears 1 PC was awesome, other than the performance issues (i.e. the game would stutter for a moment here and there) and texture-pops it was known for, back in the day.

I'm sure these days and age w/ better hardware - I'd hope that wouldn't be the case, anymore.
