Hilarious that it took them 2 years to figure out that a boatload of people were freeloading. They're really on the ball over there.

Who the fuck cares about that?

All I want to know is when do we get to run around Gran Pulse with a fully nude, purple dildo sword swinging, Lola Bunny while fighting Teletubby Oretoises?
Go ahead, think of a franchise you like and/or love.

So, when a game in that franchise you want is stuck comes to the PC w/ a low-res (720p) [before modding], when compared to today's PC standard (1080p) - then maybe you'll get why some people ain't happy about the low-res' support out-the-box.

You forget I own this game three damn times. I own this game on all systems it's for. This franchise is THE ONE I LOVE. I was being fecetious about it. There are a couple things that bother me about this release though.

1. No way to enable vibration on my 360 controlller.

2. For some reason they felt the need to add an Easy difficulty mode.

3. They also added a battle speed setting to slow down the battles.

4. Yeah it would be nice to get a higher Resolution. I do notice however that there is slightly less Aliasing on the PC version though. I even checked against my 360 and PS3 versions. Same TV used on all 3 at same resolution. The PC version did look slightly better. I know it would look even nicer with a resolution bump.

The thing that bothers me more and should bother other PC fans is the fact that they essentially made the game dumbed down for PC players. There is no reason to add an easy mode or to slow the game down. Given this is an option and isn't forced on the player but why did they feel the need to include it in the first place? It just makes it seem they have lower expectations of PC gamers abilities. I feel that's an issue that should anger PC gamers more than a resolution bump.

Contrast - $14.99 $3.74
Mars: War Logs - $12.99 $3.74
Of Orcs And Men - $29.99 $7.49
Space Run - $14.99 $7.49
Are any of these worth it? I kinda feel that Mars War Log base price is too high. $2.50 may be the right price for me.

Leliana's was okay, Witch Hunt was pretty boring. You also had the Darkspawn oriented DLCs.

But my main point on the side story DLCs was that you can always get those later when Ultimate Edition goes on sale if you really want them and not miss out on anything in the core game. Of the integrated DLC, I'd say only Stone Prisoner is "essential" since Shale wraps into the rest of the game so well. Warden's Keep & Ostagar are mainly just there for twinking your guys up in fancy armor relatively early in the game.

I suppose Warden's Keep adds the storage chest but, you know, mods.
Warden's Keep - essential bank. I also really enjoyed the story of this DLC. IIRC, this DLC also gives you the Blood Magic Skill Tree.

Shale turned out to be one of my most favorite characters in the game. - Stone Prisoner

Witch Hunt - I felt as thought they complete broke the story line, just to shoehorn that in. No, you don't get to have sex again with Morrigan. :bs:

I don't remember anything special about Leliana's song, other than it was super short. ..but it did bring a lot of depth and back-story lore in. I enjoyed it. No, you don't get to have sex again with Leliana. :bs:

Of Orcs and Men is kind of compelling as a really cheesy B-tier game set in a Lord of the Rings sort of universe, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend it for more than $5 since outside of the dubious dialogue there are a lot of frustrating things about it. I still always feel compelled to go back and maybe one day finish it though, so clearly it did enough right to make me want to see more of it. That's the only one I've played off the list.

Mars: War Logs has great atmosphere & the actual story + plot is good, once it actually decides to gets going. This is pretty much typical of a games from Cyanide and Spiders, anyways.

Same goes for the gameplay - early on, it's kind of boring b/c there ain't much skills behind it - but once it gets going, it gets better. I played with a X360 controller, IIRC.

Also, the voice-acting is typical of a foreign game - i.e. the English voice acting is flat-out all over the place. Sometimes, it's passable; sometimes, it's flat-out horrible. The writing + dialogue itself is also very typical for a Spiders + Cyanide game - it's often, flat-out stilted and a bit off, at times.

My biggest problem is on main-quests + side-quests, you'll often revisit same areas and locations - especially in the first + earliest part of the game. Lots of deja vu + backtracking there.

Graphics quality varied. Some of the areas + characters looked really good (i.e. mostly main characters); yet some looked okay.

Regardless, it was decent - but man, this game could've really been great with more time in the cooker; and better production values & more $ thrown behind its development.

Both Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar were pretty forgettable. I didn't play the DS Chronicles or Golems DLCs. It's hard for me to evaluate The Stone Prisoner as a DLC because it came free with new copies of the game when it was released, but Shale is an interesting character. I liked Witch Hunt because it was more Morrigan and I really liked her as a character (and yes, in one of my DA:O playthroughs, I did romance her). Leliana's Song was far-and-away the best of any of the DLCs I played for DA:O, though (and she's a pretty great character too). If what I've read about Inquisition is correct, it looks like both of them will be returning in the third game, but only Leliana as a party member.

One of the several things I didn't like about DA2 was the fact that it felt so wholly disconnected from DA:O because only a few familiar faces popped up. Not only did it not play like a DA game, the narrative unfolded in such as way that it could have been set in almost any other generic epic fantasy setting.

Regarding your list, yeah, pretty much everything there will turn up in a bundle eventually. I haven't played any of them, but Space Run is only 50% off, Contrast and Of Orcs and Men have been on sale for this price before and will be again, and Mars: War Logs has been bundled before in a CAG bundle. I don't think I've seen it cheaper outside of that bundle, but you might be able to get a cheap key from the Steam trading thread. Those three games have fair to middling reviews across the spectrum, so if you're not going to play them soon, I'd wait.

This is pretty much what I've read about it, but it's been sitting on my sad wishlist for a long time. I wouldn't buy it at $7.50 either under normal circumstances but I doubt it's ever going to get cheaper than 75% off until it gets bundled, and I have some Steam birthday credit, so. . . .

Story-wise Orcs is OK, it's entertaining enough to finish. The problem with Orcs, and all the other Spiders games, is the horrible console FOV that can't be adjusted (well it couldn't at release). When you take control of the huge Orc he takes almost the entire screen which is annoying as hell, like so. Also, the mob types are extremely limited, you'll face maybe 5-6 enemy types throughout the whole game. Last but not least, the maps are all incredibly linear and tiny, for example this one.

Thank you. I said the same thing regarding FOV about Mars: War Logs and people were like "It's a third person game, FOV doesn't matter". The main problem I had was actually camera related in that it wouldn't stay consistent (enough) and seems to travel in an ellipse. The higher the angle, the greater the field, the lower the angle or when backing against a wall, the camera got much closer and the field very narrow which was super annoying to me. Still need to finish that game.

You can just mod in a storage chest. I never used Blood Magic much but individual preference may vary. Certainly not worth buying Bioware Points to get the DLC for though.

I liked Of Orcs & Men. It certainly wasn't a perfect game but it had its charm and I didn't have any trouble convincing myself to play it through to its ending. Here was my previous review (written before I had finished it, I warmed up a little more by the end):

So I've been playing this and... it ain't great but it ain't terrible.

You're an orc, humans are messin' up your lands, something something war, anyway eventually your chief decides to send you out to kill the emperor. You hook up with a goblin guide and the two of you Laurel & Hardy your way to destiny. Your orc is more of the "tribal savage guy" sort who isn't overtly evil so much as he's tough and from tough lands and tough people as opposed to the stock "evil brutes who are the enemy of Good" variety.

Throughout the game (so far anyway but I don't see it changing) you can flip between the two characters with a key press and the AI takes over for the other guy. The goblin can stealth and assassinate targets so you'll sneak in, kill a couple dudes, get seen, run back to the orc (who dutifully waits for you when you're stealthed), switch to him, queue up some attacks, switch to the goblin, etc. Combat is sorta-kinda like Dragon Age in that you can set attacks & modes (offensive/defensive/ranged) and switch between characters although you can't truly pause the action. The game does slow down to a molasses crawl when you're setting attacks though. So far both characters have always leveled simultaneously even if one was "dead" at the end of combat. When you level, you get to assign a point to your stats (Strength, Stamina, Mind and Agility) and either buy or enhance a skill. I'm not in love with combat but I have a hard time pinpointing a criticism either. I guess I don't feel a huge difference in what I do? Anyway, as you can guess, the orc is big and tough and beats crap up, the goblin is small, weak and agile and can either fight melee or throw daggers. The orc's range attack is to whip the goblin at someone. Oh, and the orc builds up rage when he's attacked and if you don't vent it off somehow, he'll eventually go berserk and you lose control of him. This isn't always bad since he seems to get some attack/damage bonuses but he also takes more damage and will happily smash your goblin if said goblin is "next closest target".

Graphics and sound are touch-and-go. The orc and goblin are animated and voiced fairly well. They use profanity fairly casually if you care about that. The humans are much less impressively animated. They're passable but nothing great. Voice acting for everyone beyond the main characters ranges from barely acceptable to ridiculous. I rescued a bandit-warrior woman who had the accent of a southern belle. Why? Beats me. Who decided that? "For this, we want you to sound like a person from Connecticut impersonating Scarlett O'Hare..."

So here's the real problems:

(A) It's very, very linear. I don't know if the "side quests" are actually optional or not because I've been taking all of them without argument but I suspect you're forced through them all anyway. Each section is like running down a hallway and just going through the predetermined fight spots. There's no side tunnel exploration, almost no chance at missing the occasional glowing chest/bag with loot and you just feel shunted along. There's also very little option in how to approach something. Sure, you can assassinate a few targets to soften up a fight before you're spotted but you don't stealth past opponents or bribe them or anything... just go from fight to fight. At least an on-rails shooter like Metro 2033/LL gave you some flexibility in how to approach a fight or avoid it and some open areas to manipulate to your advantage. Of Orcs & Men doesn't provide that at all -- it's all "hallways" and when it's time to fight, you fight.

(B) The... pacing... is... terrible. You'll watch a cut scene of orc & goblin talking, jog down an alley, fight four guards, jog another ten feet and get another cut scene. Rinse and repeat. It's not even that the scenes are bad, it's that you never get into a flow of playing the game. You also never really get "into" the game as you're constantly getting pulled out by another loading screen or chat scene or something. I swear, I don't know if I've fought three fights in a row without some sort of interruption. And fighting is really all the game has going on in it (see above paragraph).

The concept is interesting enough if not entirely unique. Relative morality is nothing new. And the game has some good points but I can't really recommend it until it has an MSRP drop so you can get it for $5.

Apropos of nothing but this showed up a few days ago and it's looking good. Cinemaware had one or two failed Kickstarters to get this off the ground (no pun intended) but they must have gotten some external funding. I played this on my Amiga back in the day and thought it was great. It was one of those oddball Cinemaware games that combined action with an interesting story and a great presentation (for a game of its era--the Cinemaware games looked and sounded fantastic on Amigas and Atari STs and looked and sounded like crap on PCs due to the substantially-superior built-in multimedia hardware of the former).
