I agree, this thread is pretty cool, I can pick up older Steam/Desura games at a fraction of the cost when not on sale in Steam/Desura Marketplace.

Most of the time, when item comes up for sale in this forum (lets say for example: Red Faction Guerrilla) and there isn't a free/cheap key in a currently active bundle, I use the Enhanced Steam plug in for my browser and look at the Steam Store page which tells me, it's already been in 3 bundles, lowest price was $4 in Steam mid-August, and when I click on the "Info" that Enhanced Steam provides, it takes me to a "Red Faction: Guerrilla Price History" which shows me that it fairly regularly goes on sale for around $5. I then look at the $10 someone is asking and think "Good luck with that", I don't comment.


Having said that, I think there is a difference about the recent Civ V sale and the Red Faction: Guerrilla sale above vs. selling other keys. That difference being those free keys (Civ V, Mafia II and Red Faction: Guerrilla) are still currently available.

Now I can't say for sure that the people involved know that there are free keys out there while they hawk their wares and if they are aware, they aren't scum, it's just kind of a dick move.

Yeup, 5 bucks is still technically a decent deal for Civ5. I think that's the lowest it's ever been on sale. It's just between the free keys from GMG and the fact that it's been out awhile, I don't think Civ5 is high on all that many people's wishlists. And now you see a bunch of people posting Civ5 keys so there's some market saturation...so unless you're willing to go below where it's been on sale before, five bucks isn't all that great.

RU+CIS Disclaimer:

What is "RU+CIS"?

RU & CIS stand for Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (i.e. Ukraine) respectively.

These are the regions where I am able to get most games cheaper from. Most games have the same steam-id as their US counterparts, making them completely region-free. Certain games, however, have different steam-ids in the RU/CIS regions. Whenever this is the case, you need to check the steam database to find out if the game is region-locked or not. 

If a game is tagged with "RU+CIS," it generally means that there is a chance the game is region-locked, or only has the Russian language available (depending on what is shown in its steam database entry). It is also a possibility that there are no restrictions on the game.  

What does "region-locked" mean?

"Region-locked" means that you will only be able to play the game in the region it was purchased from. In the case of a "RU+CIS" game: if it is region-locked, you will only be able to play it if you live in Russia or the CIS region. This makes the game useless if you live in the US.

Certain games in my list are shown as RU+CIS tagged, such as Assassin's Creed 4, Thief, and Castlevania.

The ones I have listed, as of right now, do not appear to be region-locked.

When a game is region locked, there will be a field listed that looks like this:

The only "RU" tagged game that I know of which was region-locked after release is Aliens: Colonial Marines and the retail copy of Borderlands 2.

The only "RU+CIS" copy that I ever activated myself was Castlevania, and the retail copy of Witcher 2, which both work fine.

The point is, no one can be positive of what will happen with "RU+CIS" tagged games in the future.
