This doesn't make sense to me.
A person doesn't mind dying. That is, they can't care -- they're dead. The deceased can't have emotion, so it's silly to feel bad
for them, or say it doesn't matter because of who
they were. The aspect of death that should be saddening is the emotions of those affected, who survive and miss the presence of the deceased.
If the dumb coaster-jumping kid's friendly and family suffer more than van-girl's, I'd consider coaster-jumping kid's death to be more tragic.
This is a pretty dumb argument, but I think it gets down to a fundamental difference in how death is viewed.
