I sold a Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the GameBoy Color.

I tested it on a GameBoy Color and shipped it out.

Customer emailedme all pissed about a defective game. It won't work on either of the 2 SPs has access to. I have a hard time taking him seriously because he misspells and misuses 5 letter words such as again and break.

I asked the customer to test on a GameBoy Color.

Lo and behold, the game works on a GameBoy Color.

Here are the questions:

1. Are there GBC games that don't work on a GBA SP?

2. Could a GBC game be damaged in such a way that it will work on a GBC, but not on a GBA, GBA SP or DS?

no, its probably the kid's SP, or hes just being ridiculous. I still have an original gameboy, a gameboy color, an sp, and 2 ds lites. I wouldnt take the kid seriously. Obviously, if he can get the game to work there should be no problem

I've had games go through the wash that STILL work. Tell him to clean the contacts on the game + gameboy if hes having problems

Wikipedia says "The Game Boy Advance is backward compatible with most games previously released for the Game Boy or the Game Boy Color," so that kind of implies that there must be a few old games that won't work, but wikipedia is not always 100% accurate. I'm not aware of any games that don't work and did think it was 100% compatible. Didn't they put in the actual chipset which would make it 100%?

Hopefully a CAG has the game and can just give it a quick test.

Moved to GBA/DS board as I think it might get a better response here.

My son and I both play SMB Deluxe on our GBA SPs all the time (we each have one). We do have the older front-lit versions, though, so I suppose it's possible that the back-lit ones are different (but I doubt it).

I have to wonder if the guy is talking about a GBA Micro by mistake.

I have Super Mario Deluxe and it works fine in my GBA and my GBA SP.

Ask him if any older GB/GBC games work on his SP. I'm wondering if the switch that senses GB/GBC vs. GBA carts is stuck/broken... I've heard of that happening.

Anywhoo, yes, just the other day I hooked my GBA and my GBASP up for some multi-player in SMBDX... so yes, it works.
