Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

Timberlake is in the other one. No strings attached is the one with Portman and that other guy.

I think Timberlake is a pretty decent actor personally.

I think I'm going to watch every film on the IMDB Top 250 starting from the bottom and working my way up.

Anyone else wanna give this a shot?

Here is looking at you Tokyo Story.

And BTW, His Girl Friday (249) is available on Hulu. I watched a bit and the dialogue is fucking amazing and biting.

I have seen 80 of them, which actually surprised me since I don't see movies all that much, especially in the last 4-5 years. Hopefully I can find a bunch of the ones I'm missing on Netflix streaming (it's as good a list to work off as any).

Out of the IMDB, I have seen about 125 or so. I haven't checked the list in awhile, looked at it tonite and it has that new movie Drive (Ryan Gosling) in it so I don't put a lot of faith into that list. My mother was huge into movies so I grew up watching things like Topper (1937), Stalag 17 (1953), Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) so I am an old school movie watcher (yes, that means I'm old..lol).

As I have gotten older, I do tend to watch a lot more imports that are really good that no one really hears about.

Seen about 155 of them, what's sad is I have at least another 10 in my collection that I haven't seen yet...

Last movie was the awesome Citizen Kane on blu

sure why not give it a shot halfway through gran torino at the moment, a movie I feel like watching bits at a time.

I wanted to ask, for those of you want to run through the IMDB Top 250, how do you guys prefer to go about getting your films? Rentals? Streams? Purchases? Downloads?

The reason I ask if because a number of these older films do seem a bit harder to track down although it serves as little of a deterrence to my moral ambitions.

Wow, I've seen 112 of them. You old movie haters should at least watch Stalag 17. But 12 Angry Men and Casablanca might blow your minds if you give them a chance.

I'm not an old movie hater, but I've gotten the impression that people act like some old movies are better than they really are just because they're old.

For me, I think the ones that are the best old (ie: "black and white") movies are the ones where you wonder why it was allowed to be made in the first place. Like Psycho, which is a pretty disturbing movie for the time it was made. I guess another good example would be Night Of The Living Dead, which was billed as a zombie movie but had so many political and social undertones because the "leader" was a black man. Even the extreme end of the movie hits a chord.
Like if he was white, would the rednecks have shot him so quick without bothering to at least move in closer and make sure he wasn't a survivor?

Unknown.

Thought it was pretty solid--better than I expected from reviews. Liam Neeson was good. Sure, it's cliche, but it was still entertaining.

So thanks to Netflix streaming I finally saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for the first time. What an excellent western. Butch and Sundance are a very fun duo to be around for the entire movie. The buildup for the final scene is magnificent.

stalag 13 and the grapes of wrath are 2 more great b&w films. older movies tned to be prefered by some because of the quality of the storytelling and the fact back then they took their time to tell a story right. are all older films great no but id be willing to bet youd find better more memorable films from back then than you would now.

especially when you look at american cinema the shit thats popular is just that in many cases shit but the masses love it so its whats selling and what gets made.

its like with remakes i dont mind them as long as theyre not lazy money grabs like a number of them are. speaking of which i was surprised to see theres another thing remake coming out. ive seen the 2 before the new one coming out and i have to say the old b&w one was bad imo but the carpenter one was and is one of the best horror films ever.

The new thing movie is actually a prequel.

so its about that first team then yeah? the one mcready and his crew found dead or even further foward?

Stalag 13 was definitely good. I remember watching that on a whim and was quite impressed at finally seeing a really old war movie that didn't fit that "John Wayne" mold as much as movies like The Longest Day did (which was another seriously good old war movie...and oddly enough John Wayne was in it, lol).

For me though, I prefer war movies to be less about "America, fuck yeah!" and more about realism. My favorite is probably The Thin Red Line. It's just a really eerie movie because of all those internal monologues by the characters. Saw that and decided Elias Koteas is one of the most underappreciated actors on the planet. Hell, that movie is probably the most star-power studded movie ever made and not a single actor does a poor job in that. It's honestly a highlight for most, especially Jim Caviezel.

I think this is a bad idea because you'll end up with the best and you'll expect every other film not to be as good and mentally you might not be as inclined to watch everything as if you had started at the bottom. It's always better to start at the bottom of any list because you know the next one will be even better.

Just my philosophy.

That it was terrible just like the rest of the movie. That is one Stephen King adaptation they should have left on the shelf.

Stephen King endings are never good.
The build up is great and the story is cool, just the ending is always 'meh, well that' s done with'.
Not sure if anyone actually read it but The Dome had this feeling of things cant get any worse, and at every turn it did, until the end which was a cop out I think.

This is like the 3rd time I tried to watch The Departed when it was on TV, but stopped after 10 minutes. Too many cuts to people whose roles have not been explained and Jack Nicholson annoys me.

The end of that movie is like a punch to the gut. I got that on Blu because my brother had an extra copy. Might watch it again, it has the "director's cut" all in black & white.

Punch in the gut ending to a terrible movie with a terrible story and terrible characters.

I really like Thomas Jane I thought he was pretty good, story is okay but does start to drag half way through. Yeah the ending is a hard punch... ah its so frustrating haha.

Yeah I want to check out the making of and the black/white version too.

The original Seven Samurai. It may be 3 1/2 hours long but I was never bored and it's a fantastic movie. It actually looked suprisingly good on a fancy tv too. Amazing what preservation can do I suppose.

Attack the Block - 9.2/10

A thoroughly entertaining flick with exceptional direction and entertainment values far beyond anything Hollywood has turned out this year short of Drive and Midnight in Paris. The monsters were unique and interesting, the characters although scumbags were charismatic, and the film flew by. Everyone should definitely check this out.

I finally watched Thor last week and I really liked it. I thought they did a good job considering how difficult a task it is to make a movie of Marvel's Thor.
