Tales from the Pawn Shop(s)!

i'm sorry to hear that segasonic.. as pawn shop hunting is quite a passion of mine.. while i dispise driving and wish I lived in a big enough area where a bus pass would come in handy (i live in small area .. around 10K people) i am however investing in a bike and since the pawn shop is literally like 4 blocks up the road.. it'll be a good chance for me to get exercise while i'ma looking..

gas prices aren't really pinching me yet (I have a Hyundai Accent it gets like 35 MPG .. i put in about 20 bucks every two weeks to do everythign I need to do.. even cruise around town on both Saturdays at yard sales) but i wish gas would just stay the same price for like a week or two.. instead of changing seemingly every day.. anyways..

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd & I have to put $20 per week in. After I sell some of my pawn finds it pays for the gas but still. I will be able to go to 2 close ones and maybe if on Saturday mornings I am out with my mom I can go, since I usually go with her to Target & Sears (she's like me but with random clearance crap)
This is why I'm now kicking myself for cleaning out the local Kmart of their HD-DVD drives and buying 4 seasons of 24(seasons 2-5) from a thrift shop in NY because both of them are sitting here and it equals up to over $60 sitting in my room collecting dust right now.
I'd be interested in one of those HD-DVD drives. I need a paperweight. ;)
I'd be interested in one of those HD-DVD drives. I need a paperweight. ;)
LOL That's probably what they'll end up being if I wait much longer, since I'm trying to find a free version of Power DVD 9.0 to use on my PC to modify the HD-DVD drive to use it as an external movie/dvd/cd drive on my PC.

Unfortunately, even download.com only has it as 'free to try, $70 fuckin' dollars to buy'.

I was going to hit the one flea market here this weekend and try to dump off at least ONE on the one guy who deals in dvds/cds/games, but it was SO ungodly hot I decided to hibernate in the AC all weekend.:D

I just hope he's not up to speed on how this is a 'dead' format and what not or I may be offered only $10 per unit like the one game shop offered me.

Picked up an original Metal Gear Solid (PS1), Psychonauts (PS2) :bouncy:, and Tsugunai: Atonement (PS2) for $8.00 each.

Passed on a disc-only copy of Grandia II for $7.00.

Yeah, so that's the problem with bargain hunting games for goozex/ebay - you want to keep 'em all!!

Pretty nice haul for today:

Shinobi 3 (gen, cart only)-$2 talked down from $3
Road Runner, Excitebike, & Operation Wolf (NES)-$2 each talked down from $3
Wii Play-$7
Parasite Eve (2 discs, manual, & back insert only)-$4
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Ps2, disc only)-$6

Passed on MGS (GH) for $5, FF8 for $5, & Disc only copies of Megaman Legends & RE3 for $2 each
Nice grab on PE & MvC2!!

It's rare for me to see PS1 games in the wild anymore. Mostly PS2 & Xbox stuff.
Ya, i know. One pawn even told me that if they get PS1 games in boxes with PS2 games, they throw them out because no1 buys them. Its funny that the ones that say this are the ones that charge $5 each no matter what the game.

Parasite Eve is for trade if anyone wants it.

OK, foud this forum and had a few questions. I've thought about looking at my local PS's for new or used games but wasn't sure what they had. I guess I need to just venture in and see.

As far as selling your games there, do they give pretty good prices? If they are using eBay for their "value" checking then I should be golden. I know they will only give me a % of that value but it is probably better than my local GameStop.

If I had new (sealed) games, would they give me more? Since GS, GC, and BBV won't take new (sealed) games, I figured this was an option to get a little more $. Thanks

Within the past week I've got...

NBA 2k8 :360: $10
Duel to the Death :dvd: $2 (1982 film from director of Hero)
Jin-Roh :dvd: $3.33
Appleseed :dvd: $3.33
Metroid II $4
Zelda Wind Waker :gc: $6
Metroid Prime Echoes :gc: $6
Jaws Unleashed :xbox: $6 (traded into Blockbuster for $12 credit already)
KOTOR :xbox: $6

Also bought a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 :ps2: this week from GS for $52 after $28 savings LOL

I wouldn't even bother trying to sell games to a pawnshop. You would probably only get 10 - 20 cents on the dollar. Their markup tends to be extremely high.

Not the best deals, but....

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (GH) $4.99
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (2 copies) $29.99 each
Tales of Legendia $9.99

I actually saw a Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) for $39.99 and a couple of Heavenly Swords for the same price.

One of the Pawn Shops I went to had "Herc's Adventure" for the PS1. When I opened it up there was some crappy sports game inside :bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:. This makes the SECOND time I've been screwed out of a deal. Thanks alot fuckin' Pawn Place.

Target had Heavenly Sword (PS3) for $29.98; $25 after coupon. Heh, do Pawn Shops price match?

man your pawn shop is such a rip off...like my local one. They have 4 copies of halo 3 for 54.99 each, a gears of war new for 49.99, resistance fall of man used is 54.99, and project gotham racing 4 for 49.99

This is what I passed up today:

God of War (GH)-$4
GoW2-$6
KotOR2-$4
NES Advantage-$7
Sonic 3, Virtual Bart, & some other Gen games-$2
MGS3 Sub-$8
Ninja Gaiden Sigma-$25
Uncharted-$25
MLB 08 (360)-$30
Mario Kart: DD (looks like the disc wouldnt play due to scratches)-$8
Picked up the Simpsons game for 360 yesterday $15
Dammit, I was at that pawn shop about two hours after the fact. "Yeah, sold it already."

Although he usually sells them to me for $10. :D

Finally, a good day at the pawns

House of the Dead III XBX - $2
The Hulk PS2 Complete - $2
Pikmin 2 w/ box, no manual - $6
Rockband XBX 360 Complete w/o accessories - $16
Mass Effect Limited Edition Complete - $20
The Horde Complete Saturn - $5
Iron Storm Complete Saturn - $5(!)

The Saturn games were just sitting out waiting to be priced and they weren't going to sell it to me. The guy (manager) was being a bit arrogant and I asked him to see the game case where they keep current gen, even though I thought the games were going to be overpriced (I was just trying to take up his time). Sure enough, the Assassin's Creed Special Edition was $35 and then I looked at Mass Effect and the guy goes, thats $20 w/o me looking at the price. He then yells at the worker to "print those Saturn Labels, we got a customer". Dude ended up being cool, printed the labels at $5 (I already offered $10 for Iron Storm if they sold it to me today) and I bought the Horde because they helped mne out. The other Saturn games they had were Virtua Fighter Remix, Dayton USA CE, VR Virtua Racing, Darius Gaiden and a few others. I may go back for Darius Gaiden later as I have the disc but not manual and case. The pawn where I bought Rockband also had Mass Effect for $16 (which was funny since I just bought LE version), Assasin's Creed ($16), Guitar Hero 2 and 3 and a few others. Almost bought Devil May Cry 4, but the girl wouldn't go down past the $25 price. She was really nice and I joked with her for a few minutes before leaving.

a pawn called me & told me that someone tried to trade in a bunch of "old nintendo" games, but they dont take them. The guy left the pawn his number for me (the call me when they get stuff in), but Idk if I should call or not...

Hell, I'd probably do $45 shipped for God Of War, God Of War 2 and Uncharted if they were mint/complete.

My Pawn calls me too. I usualy take any leed they give me. Usualy when people take old games to a pawn they just want to git rid of them for a little cash, most pawns give less than $.50 per game, so make sure to cif pretty low.

I thought about getting them as trade bate, but passed since I was running low on funds. Uncharted isn't there anymore, but the GoW1 has been there over a year (it's complete but GH). I could prolly get them to go to 2.50 if I asked.

In my area, it's a feat to find someone in a pawn that can either speak english or isn't a crack head. I think I'm gonna pass for those reasons. It's most likely sports games anyways.

I wish our stores were like that, but the only 'pawn' shops we have around here lock the prices in for as long as it takes to sell the crap. They had a copy of Magna Carta for PS2 in their one shop for $30 for the longest time(over a year easily).

I know I believe you said you've been burned before from people not wanting stuff after they said to get it, but I'm itching to replay both God Of War games once I get through this FINAL mission on GTAIV and try the online mode at least ONCE.

The one shop here used to have 3-5 copies of the Doc Of Metal Gear Solid for $10 a pop, but I was too late figuring out they were worth $30 or more each and someone nabbed every last one.

Let me know on the God Of War games and if you see another copy of Uncharted for $25, keep me in mind as well.

You must have chain stores. The chain's around here lock in prices that are rediculous, but the mom and pops will negotiate anthing as long as they are making money!!

Actually, it is a local chain. The same guy(s) own both of them. It's not even technically a real 'pawn' shop, since I'm sure if I went there to ask if I could buy back something I might trade to them tomorrow next week or so, it'd either be sold or they'd say 'check the price on it'.

I don't think they've ever made the 'loans' like a typical pawn shop do and they just kind of scoffed when I said I'd 'trade' them this for that, even though their signage SAYS 'buy*sell*trade'.

Would you trade one of your HD Drives for both of em? :D

I have lame pawns here to (local chains). They sell most of the stuff gets sold on Ebay & all the shit gets thrown on the shelf for $10 each (or 3 for $25. woo!).

Looks like I won't get to go pawn hopping for a while. The $230 I spent on 2 copies of PDS drained me . Gas sucks to.

so they are more like a resell shop, we used to have one of those, but they never realy advertised, but i did mangage to find out about it the week before it closed and grab some hard to find SNES titles.

The owner of my pawn is too lazy for ebay, he throws PS2/XBOX/GC/DVD on the shelf for $5 or 5 for $20, and 360/PS3/Wii/PSP for $15(but i can usualy get 2 for $20)

That's cool. I love pawns like that.

What makes me mad about my pawns is that the ones that dont take older games say that no1 buys them. That is because they're mostly sports. They have a ton of Madden 95's but every time they get mario or something, they are gone instantly. Most of the pawns that DO take older games put them at $20 each because they have Mario on them. I think I posted this before, but one pawn even told me they throw away PS1 games they get in lots with PS2s, because they have had a PS1 w/ madden 99 there for a year for $20 so that must mean no1 will buy the games :bomb:.

I did find a FFVII there for $5 a few weeks ago though. Must've been to important to toss out.

More for me! :) The Uncharted is still there for $25, and that price is a little high. Most of the pawns have dropped their PS3 prices to $20 and XBX 360 to $15. Not many Wii games around. God of War is seen regulary at $4-6 and God of War 2 is between $6-$10. The chains have wised up to prices on retro as they have been raised a few bucks here and there. I used to nab cart based games for $2 regualary and they are now $6 if they even have them. I was shocked to see those Saturn games as they rarely (and I mean Bubble Bath Babes rare) show up in pawn shops here anymore (besides one that has lost all the discs and keeps the display boxes).

was that saturn find in Tampa or St. Pete (or other areas)?

On a side note, otherguy, I took that CDX to the MM guy. He is going to look at it & call me next week. I'm off Monday & Tuesday if you wanna come by & bring that Sonic.

Maybe Uncharted and one of the God Of War games, but the GOW games are pretty common around here and I know I could get them from the one local shop for $20 or so total.

Actually, since Gamestop still wants $49.99 for it used, I'd do JUST Uncharted for my remaining HD-DVD drive.

Let me know....

I hate how pawns are like that, The guy here dosnt take them in very often, but if he does it's always crappy stuff!!

I don't think he throws stuff away!! I hope not, he does sometimes keep NEs stuff behind the counter and give it to me if it comes in a box of other stuff.

Sorry, Im at work Sunday through Thursday, the game is unpacked for my move so its there. Worse case scenario, if you have a few hours one day, you can come by and get it. Did you want to trade or just $cash$?

Any CAGs want my extra copy of Parasite Eve for $10 shipped? It comes in a 2-disc case, but not the bigger kind (think RE2). It has the manual, 2 discs, & back insert. The manual's cover is cut off where the black Playstation bar starts. Why, I don't know. It is a non-GH copy & plays fine. If anyone wants it, PLMK.

IATCG-If I find another Uncharted for $25, I'll grab it.

I was at my local P-Shop today, and I asked if they had gotten in any classic games. The manager told me that he uit taking them in because everyone is trying to get cash for them with the economy so bad....so no we have a deal that He buys them and I get them dirt cheap!!

Thanks alot. Of course, I'm just as picky as other CAGs, so it has to be mint/complete. :)

That Uncharted is/was mint. There is not a large market for PS3 games here in Tampa and they sit on the pawn shelves. I gor Heavenly Sword for $10 2 weeks after it came out of a pawn because they said their PS3 games just sit on the shelves as they said their usual clientile doesnt have PS3s yet.

Otherguy why must you make me hate you so much, oh what i wouldn't do for heavenly sword and uncharted for $35. Just got my PS3 and you would not imagine how much a pain it is to find PS3 titles to add to my collection(for the CAG pricing of course). either all the semi decent clearances are gone or the good games are still like $40-$60. anyways i guess its time to return to the pawn shops and continue my search.

You should do what I do. Check your closer pawns every 3 days & further ones every 2 weeks. I have seen a lot in the past few weeks, like the Uncharted that Otherguy mentioned for $25, Resistance for $3 (bought it for a friend), Oblivion for $20, etc. Maybe if I have some extra cash next time I should pick up some for trade bait. I would love to get some PS2 games I've been looking for for them.

well there is always an open call, if anyone finds a heavenly sword for $10 or less and its complete I'll buy that sucker. just PM me. And heres to hoping i can find some treasures at my local pawns

I'm sure you will find something, the bad thing abotu pawns are that there are always people that hit them everyday trying to find good stuff, so if you are lookign for something special hit it daily.
