The 2013-14 NFL Thread

o_O How is it not? The Texans were a playoff team last year and while they lost steam at the end, they still had an excellent record, plus several players that are among the best at their position.

The Chargers, meanwhile, are seen as a team in transition that will likely max out at 8-8.

Plus, the Vegas line had Houston winning.

It's clearly an upset. I dont know how anyone could argue it isnt. You'll quickly find that Renique knows absolutely nothing about sports but posts in every sports thread. It's best not to argue with him. For all our sakes.

Anyway, this game blows. Edit: Ooops! Spoke too soon.

rivers 2nd half

Chargers giving another game away, 2013 season has definitely started.

That Brian Cushing pick 6 changed the entire game. Even though I was screaming at my TV for the first half, I'm glad my Texans managed to turn it around and come back from a 28-7 deficit.

Rivers and the Chargers did everything they could to let the Texans win. Though Cushing's TAINT was amazing.

I feel bad for Brady while watching this Patriots/Jets game, Thompkins and Dobsin both have 6 drop passes.
They also just ran ran some terrible routes and made Brady miss by a mile. Between them, they had 17 targets and 5 catches. I'd generally put a lot of the blame on the QB, but this is Brady...

Titans sure are getting held alot.
I really didn't expect the Titans to win this game, but the refs are really blowing Houston right now. Three penalties and then a gift safety. The Titans have had at least four 12+ yard plays called back. I hate blaming the refs, but I have a hard time believing Houston isn't doing the exact same shit.

Well OT may not even be needed now. Let's get this field goal!

EDIT: You're fucking killing me Randy Bullock!

come on titans wtf, i know its heavily skewed against you with the officials and all but wrap this shit up
Officials heavily skewed against the Titans? What game are you watching? Texans have had to throw 2 challenge flags and won both. And those are just the two major fuck ups that come to mind.

you jinx  em
Yeah, just my fucking luck lol

that's hilarious that someone thinks somehow the titans are getting preferential treatment.

I think the early holding calls against the Titans were BS, but to me, Locker choked that game away (with an honorable mention to whoever that fat fucker was that couldn't bring down a much smaller Arian Foster on that 2 point conversion and just got drug into the end zone).

After the game was tied, the Titans got the ball back with 1:51 on the clock, all 3 timeouts, and only needed to get into Rob Bironas' field goal range to win it. They get a 3rd and 1, and Munchak makes a great play call, knowing that Houston will be expecting the run. He calls a quick slant to Kenny Britt...Houston brings the house, and Locker throws it too high for the 6'3" Britt...who has his arms fully extended and still can't bring it in...on a 4 yard throw.

I get that the heat was coming there, but that's kind of the point. That's the kind of play Britt could have taken all the way if Locker hit him in the chest. That probably should have cost them the game right there, as it stopped the clock, resulted in a 3 and out, and gave Houston a great chance to win, had Randy Bullock not been screwed with so brilliantly (Munchak was trolling him hard on that one, lol).

I really like Jake Locker, but he seriously has to grow past this nervous jitters shit that causes him to sail throws sometimes. It's one thing if your receiver is wide open 20 yards down the field or something. But when he's 4 yards in front of you...you have to make that throw. So far, as good as Tennessee has looked, I feel like it's been the defense carrying and/or keeping the offense in the game. And you can't play like that all season. The offense has to start making some plays at some point.

Just want to add, that's not really a fair comparison...as those challenges were more "Was he in?" plays that are hard to judge at full speed. But I'm glad the right call was ultimately made. But it's not like the Titans could challenge "Why the fuck is everything we do holding???" calls, lol. Honestly, I'd be nervous if I were Houston. They were pushed to the limit by two teams that weren't even in the top 25 power rankings before the season started. Sure, they batlled and pulled through. But that doesn't bode well for getting far in the playoffs.

The Texans are pretenders. At best, that's all they've ever been.
That's what I mean. Schaub had 2 picks in this game. One a pick 6...and the other easily could have been had Pollard not lost his balance. The Titans defense is definitely improved, but if he's getting rattled by them, he will most definitely fall apart in the playoffs again against even better defenses. I just don't think Schaub is a Super Bowl QB (especially after hearing Kevin Harlan and Solomon Wilcotts refer to him as being "elite"). He made some great throws at the end, but I don't think the consistency is there. I worry Locker is going to fall in that same category though, lol.

I'll give it to you that the first flag involving Chris Johnson in the end zone was a "Was he in?" play, but the second one wasn't at all. From what I can remember, besides the challenge flags there was also a clear pass interference penalty that never got called, and then there was the fucking weird call they made where the Texans supposedly "illegally touched" the ball after kickoff when it should have been Texans possession after the Titans player touched the ball and we recovered it. I can't really speak on the holding calls, but how else are you going to stop last years DPOY lol? Just kidding.

Really the only problem I see with the Texans is that their offense has been starting out slow and the secondary hasn't been showing up until the second half.

I haven't lost faith in Schaub yet, but this is definitely his make-or-break year in my eyes. He actually looked really good the entire game against the Chargers other than the pick 6. I think both interceptions this game could've been avoided and weren't entirely his fault. A defensive player got his hand on the first one and on the second DeAndre Hopkins just completely messed up his route.

I wouldn't call Schaub elite. But he's second-tier no doubt. He consistently has a completion percentage that's among the best in the league as well as having an above-average passer rating. He's also thrown for over 4000+ yards in 3 different seasons.

And it looks like Andre Johnson is being checked out for a concussion. I know any injury is a bad one, but I'm just glad it's something that shouldn't stop him from missing too much time if proven true.

I am a Ravens fan, so I am used to defensive battles. Still pretty "meh" about this game. Everytime some stuff happens, something comes along to kill the excitement. And now everybody and their grandma is getting stupid penalty after stupid penalty. The weather delay didn't help.

At least last week we had two bumbling teams knock into each other. Greatness is fine and all, but incompetance is hilarious.

man seattle secondary is so good. Pretty much put the tape on everyone in 49ers..

interesting to know that sherman and harbaugh have a bad history with each other dating back to stanford days.

I bet his mom doesn't even like him.

Tough loss but that's what Seattle does. They win at home in the opera house.

On to next week which should be fun. Andrew Luck facing Harbaugh. I got tickets to that game.

Tampa losing again in stupid fashion. Why kick a FG from so far back when the risk puts the game on the line? Being up by a FG against Drew Brees and the Saints doesn't mean anything. Sigh.

Such is the life of a Bucs fan.

Also, what's up with all of these "illegal formation" calls when something incredible happens?

There was a section in Grantland where Bill Barnwell goes over every team so far. I rather liked his Steelers write-up:

Pittsburgh has one sack through two games. One. Opposing passers have dropped back 66 times and they've been taken down once, by LaMarr Woodley on Monday night. They've already moved Jarvis Jones into a regular role in the lineup, as the first-round pick took 72 percent of the defensive snaps against the Bengals on Monday, with Jason Worilds moving to the bench. The defense really hasn't played all that poorly otherwise, but man, do they need a pass rush to sprout up to have any hope of getting better. I mean, they practice against Ben Roethlisberger four days a week! Shouldn't that give them positive reinforcement that sacking quarterbacks is easy?
Also, does anyone here read the NFL Hangover?
