Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Deadpool for PS4 and XB1 both got a price jump from $50 to $70. Thought it would happen sooner after the latest movie released. The PS4 version in particular is going for well over $100 on secondary markets so I'm guessing that one will get another price jump in the near future.
Ps4 and xb1 is $79.99 now.

They seem a lot more active with adjusting their prices to match the market recently
I believe I was in an alternate universe just last year when I bought Wolverine on 360 CIB for about $15. Now, it's $45...$50 on PS3. Madness.

To think, if they were still available digitally these prices wouldn't be going up and fluctuating so much.

Though, I learned years ago that when it comes to any good licensed video games that I like/want, to get them earlier physically. It helps avoid this crap.

Not even a year ago. Like 6 months ago I found a CIB Wolverine for 360 T my Local GameStop for like $12. Used my coupon and paid $7 for it lol

And it’s selling for more than that on eBay. Close to $100

You guys think Wolverine will tank when Sony releases their "modern audience" version on PS5?

I didn't know what else to pick up with the $5 monthly coupon. I was in store and saw $20 for MGS master coll on Amazon. Price matched and used my $5 coupon to grab a sealed copy for the PS5.

Has anyone gone to their local “retro store” GameStop and can they chime in on what that actually entails. ?

Cause other stores have some older titles for Wii U / ps3 / 3ds even 64 and ds and stuff and occasionally seen ps1 and snes / genesis carts. Whatever people trade in

Ill be happy to share. There's a "retro" gamestop near my area. I just went last weekend and they are pretty stocked on old retro games. However, prices are high, but you can find some good titles for a decent price; specially if they quality for the 4$40 atm. Here's some pics. That day, I picked up Metroid Prime for the GC, Heart of Darkness for the PS1, Full metal Alchemist Dual Symphony for the DS, and Shovel Knight for the PS4 (all CIB); all for $40. Kind reminder: You can redeem an extra 10% cashback bonus thru Discover when you choose GameStop to topload your giftcard.

Gamestop getting into retro games is worrisome after they are so quick to discard them. Most packaging is worth more than the game itself and gamestop makes no distinction whether it is CIB or Item only.

Just curious, what do you mean here? GS takes retro trade ins and just tosses them?

For the most part this is what happens. They dont like keeping boxes as to it takes up inventory space. When I worked at gamestop years ago when people traded in 3ds games all the cases would get thrown away.

Maybe Gamestop will go back to selling dvd's like they used to..
Funny you say that I went to a local GS over the weekend and they had a big display of DVD/Blu Ray/4K movies. Never thought I would see the day that they would sell movies and retro games but here we are.

I noticed another random active offer on my account:

*Pro Members - Save 20% Off GameStop Branded 1TB, 2TB, 4TB Memory With Coupon

In-store only, no idea what they mean my "memory", but I assume they are referring to their white label SSDs that they sell.

It was listed in an email I got on Sunday. But I don’t see it on the site currently. Would be nice if someone clueless confirm. Just got my $10 Best Buy games that I want to trade in lol

I saw it still on the site on Sunday, though yea it's not there anymore.

I'd like extra confirmation as well, though I will say though that several months in, at this point this whole thing of it applying to any new game or preorder does seem to be a permanent trade bonus. There was also a time last month or so where it didn't show up on the website, but I confirmed in-store that it was still active. So hopefully that's still the case now.

Alright so question on what you will do to proceed,

YEARS AGO, I bought Xmen Origins Wolverine for ps3 used. Im pretty sure I bought it from Gamestop (not 100% sure though) but like most of my games, I buy them and never play them. But because of the movie, I was feeding off the hype and wanted to play it. So I put it in my ps3, and the disc doesnt work! Everytime I try to start it, it gets an error. Its the only disc that does this so its not my ps3.

I bought this years ago, so obviously I dont have receipt, and even if I did, its so far away from the purchase date, that it wouldnt matter. But would buying it again now, and returning the old disc work? I just want a working game. I havent had this problem since the ps2, so I didnt even think to check the disc at the time I bought it.

Ive been clamoring for them to do this for like the last 10 years. Never understood why it took them so long to start selling retro games in their stores.

Anything is better than funko pops and the other crap just taking up space everywhere even if retro games are a niche market.

Recently saw a youtube video from like 2005ish of the inside of a gamestop and I legitimately forgot they used to literally be just all games on every shelf, from floor to ceiling. Miss those days.
