Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Just trade in your system with power, hdmi, stand, charging cable and controller. You'll get 385 with Pro and the 25 will automatically apply.
Edit: I'd make sure the controller is charged a bit and the system has a basic profile to speed things up. I forgot to charge my controller and had to wait awhile for it to charge up to use.

Curious to ask as I normally don’t trade anything… ever. I have a launch PS5 model CFI-1015A and a new slim as well. Swapped my data to the slim and use that as my main console.

Would I be silly NOT to trade it for the credit to buy a Pro coming soon, or keep it as the launch one may be ‘rare’? Since I got the slim early this year, my launch PS5 fat has been back in the factory box store in my attic. So I used and ‘collecting dust’.

Also I’ve seen trade boosts with $50 credit not just $25, though it seems the base trade value is high right now. No idea why.

Trade values are probably not going to get much higher. I’m definitely going to get a ps5 pro. The only ps5 I’m keeping is my spiderman edition. The slim is going to be traded in fo’ sho’.
In your case I would definitely trade the original ps5 and probably the slim too if you know you’re getting a pro. Can you live without your ps5 for 2-3 months? Maybe go through the backlog with another console or handheld?

I'd be surprised if $410 trade credit gets topped.

It'd be one thing if you just didn't want to be without a PS5 while you wait for the Pro to come out, but if you literally have one you're not using anymore then it's a no-brainer imo

Eh money isn’t a concern to be frank. I’m just a collector and appreciate I have a launch edition with the first heatsink before the downgrades/downsize internals.

Figured if the Pro launches around $500 or so, I could get it for almost nothing with my unused launch edition. I’ll keep my slim since I have the matching midnight faceplate and controller.

Truth be told sure I can live without either PS5… I built a mega PC a year ago for fun with a 4090 founders edition, and haven’t once gamed on it as I primarily play my PS5 in my home theater room.

I would agree with you. Just in the past, ages ago, I’ve regretted traded in consoles that weren’t replaceable. I’d just hate for the CFI-1015A model to be valuable one day and in the back of my mind I go “wish I never got rid of that one!”

Has the trade credit ever been higher? It’s nuts to me it’s $410 now when you can buy it used from their own website for around $450.

Yea, I understand. It does have its value then in that sense.

As for trade credit, not that I really keep track of consoles like that, but the highest I can recall was $407 credit previously. It was $357 for Pro members combined with a $50 extra credit promo.

So even that's beaten by this current deal lol

Think highest was $425 I want to say.

I'm hoping GS doesn't play their usual stupid little games, and make it so you can only get the PS5 Pro in a mandatory bundle... I also don't trust their website enough to use trade credit, if the PS5 Pro will be hard to come by (which I'm sure this is on the radar for flippers) and there's the potential it gets cancelled.

Thank you for the replies.

The other conundrum I have is if I should keep the controller. I checked yesterday in store. Value is $410 credit with everything. If I don’t trade the controller, credit is $370.

I don’t ‘need’ it as I have an edge, a midnight standard, and astro bot edition on the way.

Tbh I don't even know where to start in dumping stuff anymore. Have a fat 60gb PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One still collecting dust. At this point in life, I almost feel like donating them rather than dealing with trying to sell them to annoying lowball offers via FB marketplace/ Nextdoor or something dumb.

If you can find a children’s hospital or women’s shelter to donate them to, that would probably be the places where they’d get used by kids that could appreciate them.

If you're trading it all in to get a Pro when it comes out you will get a new controller with that system, no point in hanging on to an old launch controller

I'd definitely offload that launch system now. It's pretty high now. Especially since you have a slim.

You need enough people to buy it to make profit
Not if it's digital only and people are locked into buying games strictly from the PS Store. They make more money per game digitally then same game physically (unless I am wrong in the common sense idea that Sony make more on a digital game of $70 vs physical game of $70)

I dunno, I've seen so many scummy things handled by places that take in donations. Some places got standards set up in weird ways and they find some way to make something ineligible to give to the folks who "need it"/want to use it, and when it doesn't qualify they'll either take it home themselves and or sell it for profit. Pretty much if you have the wrong person overseeing the operation or rather not overseeing it at all, you have people that are paid almost nothing sifting around looking for anything they can use themselves as they get first dibs.

A lot of places don't take used stuff, unfortunately. They usually have an Amazon wishlist you have to order from.

im confused, they take consoles without controllers?

I’d be tempted to trade my ps5 in too, but I don’t want to be without it for that long. If it was just sitting I 100% would. Need it to play the GOTY Astro Bot!

Astro Bot looks amazing but with a 10 hour campaign, I will wait for the used copies to drop. Looking for $30

Ya I paid like 32 at target after stacking some discounts a few months ago. It’s def longer than 10 hours tho unless you just rush through the levels. I’ve put like 4-5 hours in today (collecting everything in all the levels) and I’m maybe 20% through. Really good tho. Reminds me of Mario Galaxy

The employee yesterday said yes, though the one today said no. I presume they were charging me a used controller 'fee'. I specifically remember the quote at the register, $410 with all accessories, $370 without the controller.

Traded in my console today. The collector in me is full of regret. Though I only paid $350 for my new spiderman slim bundle from black friday of last year, so I'm truly still net positive on the transaction.

Could the $385 base drop or raise any day as well? I’m still shocked at the trade in value. They charge around $450 to buy it used on store. Not making much margin at all. Plus the console is $450 new all the time, which means they have to drop the used price when that happens too.

Yes. And make sure it has the screw as well

Just realized the gent from the store did not take my stand when I gave them my console yesterday. I actually brought in my launch system basically new in box. He took the console, controller, hdmi, usb, power cord.
