Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
This is kinda off topic but i need some help. My BB just got a used copy of GTA:SA for the PS2 someone traded in. How can tell the difference between the one with the hot coffee scene and the one with the patch that removed the hot coffee scene? Heard the hot coffee one is rare. Any help is much appreciated.
I dont think you can tell if theres a patch. Buy it,play it, find out and if it doesnt return it ;)
but the deal of the week game(s) dont stack with the coupon, or so the GS guy told me.
Its YMMV for that. Sometimes if you are slick and they dont care or arent paying attention it will work.
I'm glad my BB isn't the only one with DS Lites in stock then. Right at the register they have about 10 of them. They also have GH: On Tour for the DS and a lot of new games.
Well, around here them having DS's is brand new - I mean, it just started Tuesday. They've never had them before that. Same with the selection of new DS games which I posted about yesterday.
You guys see that post in the GS thread about pinoy___ getting banned from GS for trading in too many of the same titles? Might be time to cool it.
:whistle2:s. I'm gonna have to check that out.

Sorry if this question has been ask, I've only read the first few pages and the several last pages:

Has anybody else had problems with trading Time Crisis 4 (game only) at BBV? I've tried like 2 places so far and both said they can't accept that game. Bout ready to return it back to Gamestop.

It sounds like they know you need the gun to play that game or they reached their stock limit of that game. I'm guessing the former. It's the same deal with Eye of Judgment. People have been reporting YMMV with games that need peripherals.

They have to manually look up the game because the barcode on your game only isnt the right one or something, the one that they accept is the one outside the box with the gun I believe.

Yup also had a hard time trading time crisis 4. Tried 2 store on my area and it doesn't work for some reason its not on their computer no more. I just returned time crisis 4 to gamestop to get my 20 dollars back. Oh ya they even tried manually putting the game but it never work it seems time crisis 4 trade in has change since yesterday. I traded one 2 days ago it went smoothly but ever since yesterday they are not accepting one anymore on my blockbusters.:booty::whistle2:#.

I got lucky w/ my first and only TC4, the guy said they couldn't accept it because "it" wanted the game and the gun and I just literally looked at him funny and said "huh?" and he took it, $30.

Just to be safe I went back and deleted a few posts that mentioned the most common games people are buying from BB and trading to GS. We don't need to provide that info in case GS does decide on corporate-level account investigations. It is unclear what happened to pinoyboy, but it is probably just a GS junior detective that got him in trouble and nothing coming down from corporate. If lots more CAGs start getting banned from trading at GS then it could be something more... Stay tuned!
You guys see that post in the GS thread about pinoy___ getting banned from GS for trading in too many of the same titles? Might be time to cool it.
That has me kind of worried. Hopefully it was just a junior detective who placed a call to corporate, and not something that's going to be widespread.

Edit: just saw io's last post...I guess I won't be listing my flips any time soon. ;)

I sent you a PM. :D

speaking of B2G1 when will this happen? I'm still hoping for a 25% off Wii games for the next coupon. With that I might finally open up my Wii for some gaming time

i hope it was just a jr detective. But I have to say that some people on here are very blatant in their trading in. I mean i have no problem with flipping, but I am not that ok with people doing so much that they rack up over $1000 or so credit. I feel like some people may ruin it for all. Maybe not now, but it may come back to hurt...

for now I will definitely cool it for a bit, and I think its wise so stop while your ahead. A ban at GS would be really bad for me since I really like the store and trading games in and ect...

I'm pretty sure the upc codes are different. It's been a few months, but I tried trading it at gamestop and they wouldn't take it cause it was the hot coffee version. Took it to blockbuster and they took it(got $15) although the receipt clearly said DO NOT TRADE next to the title, it went thru. Chances are it's the patched version, but... maybe not.
Spent about 90$ BBV today and made about 170$ GS credit. Not a bad day at all for 2 stores, makes me sad I'm in a low gaming area... because there's not many BBV/GR and GS close to eachother.

Anyway.

Also managed to grab Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (no manual though) and Tales of Symphonia for myself. (12.99 and 14.99 respectively). MGS:TS is a tad rough, but I may just have Game Exchange refinish the disk for me if it bugs me.

The district manager also messed up when he rang up my first batch. He was charging me a refurb. fee on some games (even though they were all better quality then games being sold because they went unrented) and rang up one of my games twice. I felt bad about not saying anything, but I didn't catch it until I was about 30 feet from my house.

I need to go back to Gamestop tomorrow and pick up the used copy of EoJ and Blacksite to flip. Im debating if i want to pick up a disk-only copy of mario power tennis I saw there or pick up one of the many Collector's Edition Strangleholds (to actually play) I traded in there as my free game with the copy of Pikmin.

At any rate, the quotes posted were still quite accurate, for those of you not sure. Io's list is pretty golden, thanks mate. I have a few quotes/TIVs today for different games than the ones listed, but I'll have to dig through the receipts (ill do it when i clean out my console in the car).
u should pick up mario power tennis since u can trade it into gs for 12 dollars before edge

Like someone else posted, they aren't supposed to have it in stock, but it may have slipped thru. I got mine a few months ago at a KMart. Talk about slow to pull things of shelves that aren't supposed to be sold. . .

Just started, blockbuster will start taking preorders for Gears 2, and infinite undiscovery. Just ask your CSR to look it up in the computer if they don't know the part number.

Well, the BB I went to yesterday coudn't do a preorder for Little Big Planet.

They showed me a list of games that I could preorder, and Little Big Planet wasn't on it. Is there any type of preorder bonus for the game?

I think the only pre-order bonuses BB do are those stupid picture frames that they usually end up giving away for free a few weeks after the game comes out.

Anyone know the current TIV at BB for Timeshift (PS3)?

I searched this thread but didn't find an answer.

Thanks.

Hmm.... I searched the thread and found the answer in the second result (the first result being your post above).

Anyway, h2dk posted on 7/11 that Timeshift PS3 got $16. Might have dropped this week though, so I'd double-check.

Edavis, did you pick up the two A51's in our area? Both stores that had them yesterday morning were sold out last night.Timeshift 360 was down to 9.98 at Target too. Worth picking up for flipping?

So I have a warning to a fellow CAGGER, this is for the person who traded recently two of the same game at the BB on Harbor/Garden Grove in Santa Ana.

I often chat with the manager at that store. He is probably the most creative BB manager I've met, he wheels and deals in many creative ways (for instance to get more copies of any big release, he actually preorders games on his own account, to resell in his store)

He also works very hard to win internal promotions that BB run for stores with the highest preorder numbers, Madden 09 for instance wins a trip to Texas to meet with the CEO.

Recognizing this about him, I preorder from his store more than most other stores.

Last night I traded a Blacksite and Kane & Lynch, which caught his attention. Apprently someone else who trades at his store had recently traded 2 copies of a game, and this registered as something suspicious. The funny thing was he was most upset that this one individual never preorders from his store and always takes his credit somewhere else. He told me he very well may ban this individual from trading at his store.

So whomever you are, I strongly suggest you do the following:

Go back to his store and find Jeff (Black dude if you didn't already know), and preorder something, maybe 2 or 3 things.

I preordered Force Unleashed last night from him, even though I have it preordered at GameCrazy, I'll cancel it there later on.

Be smart people, buy stuff from the BB's you trade at, especially when they ask you too.

I'm not sure io, which information you didn't want in the thread now. I want to post my list of prices and values from this week. Should I just go ahead and post them or what?

On a side note, I was told by a guy at Gamestop on Tuesday that the refurb fees are automaticly calculated by the computer based on the title, and all he does is indicate that the disc is scratched. The guy didn't seem too swift at using the cash register though, and our whole interaction was kind of unpleasant. I will likely avoid him for trades in the future.

Since some of you are having trouble preordering here are the item numbers for BB to look up for pre orders. This is a great idea for io to put pre order numbers in the OP. If we can get at BB we must do it. Get games at GS that we cant get at BB...

BB wrote this down for me few weeks ago, just ask them to look up the item numbers.

Little Big Planet- 735170
Killzone2- 187101
Socom: Confrontation (w/ headset)- 722623

Last day of the ps3 coupon, I'm headin out to the cluster of 4 BBVs 30 mins away that I have yet to hit.

Hopefully I can rebuild some credit, getting 2 wii's and 2 wiifits in the past week has been pretty rough.

That's a lie. I have traded Smackdown 07 multiple times but was charge a refurbished fee only once. That was the only one I was ever charged with after trading in about 30 games total. It is definitely not based on title.
Edit: just saw io's last post...I guess I won't be listing my flips any time soon. ;)
If a good flip hasn't been listed, it's okay to mention it. But multiple posts of, "I flipped 4 copies of X" can be a problem. Discretion is a good thing.
Wasnt it the same thing with the Guy Game, yet GS put it back on shelves :whistle2:s
I thought the same thing! I saw a copy at one of the GRs around here, and brought it to one of the kids at the counter. I said, "maybe I'm wrong, but I thought this game had to be pulled over a legal thing... an underage girl was in there or something like that. But it might have been another game." They looked in the system and it was right there for them to sell, so it went back on the floor. *shrugs*

He meant that the amount of the fee is based on the title (most likely the trade-in value of the title actually).

In other words, the clerks don't pick the dollar amount of the refurb fee themselves, the computer does. Presumably, a higher TIV means a higher refurb fee.

No no, what I meant was, he told me that the amount of a refurbishing fee, 50c, $1, $2, etc. is automaticly calculated by the computer, based on what title it is that's being refurbished. But given his attitude throughout the whole thing, it wouldn't surprise me if he was wrong, or lying. I mention it because I wondered if anyone else knew anything about how refurb fees are calculated.

So I just went to trade in my last two copies of TH Underground and Soldier of Fortune at the local GS and I've been banned!!!

J/k.

It all went fine. I picked up a copy of Blacksite and after trading that in to my local BBV, I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE GAMES FOR FLIPPING. I will pick up a Wall-E toy though as you really do have to buy things once in a while from the BBV.

THe problem is that none of the games coming out I'm really excited about.
Has anyone preordered a game from blockbuster before. Have you had any problems getting the game on the release day?
Yes, and yes. For the REALLY big titles, specifically the one's they're pushing pre-orders for, they generally get them in on release day. However, many of their new releases show up the Friday of that week. More and more lately, they seem to be getting new release games on their proper releases dates. Just ask them what date they show for when they'll get it in.

I got Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Metal Gear Solid 4 all on release day after pre-ordering. Lego Indiana Jones came in a day late, but according to them, it was due to a late delivery (their rental copies came in on release day, which was frustrating).

The ones they're pushing now.... Soul Calibur IV, Force Unleashed, Madden 09; I imagine they'll get all those on release day.
Has anyone preordered a game from blockbuster before. Have you had any problems getting the game on the release day?
Release day pickup only ever occurs for the big titles that they are pushing, so Gears, Madden etc should be available Day 1, but most frequently the games can only be picked up on the Friday of the release week.

For most of us, with a huge backlog of games, this is not a problem :D

one of the blockbusters i buy from had ncaa09 before release date. Was more than happy to sell it to me early.

Lol. Breaking street date ftw!

My local store had like 20 copies of Guitar Hero On Tour for DS up on the counter a day or two before release day, but they wouldn't sell them.

When I Pre-order GTA 4, They Stay open till 1 am for the release, just gave them the receipt , really don't need it because it shows up in your records.

So i totaled my earning for the timespan of June 22-July18 and thanks to TRU, GS, BBV, friends, family, and of course you guys, and CAG, I made a grand total $4070.69 PROFIT of store credit, which i plan to turn to cash with the help of the metal gear bundles. On top of that I was able to still able to be on my 5 days of 40 hours a week job. whoo. Thanks CAG now i can Finally get my complete video game collection going on!

I went to trade in a :ps3: History Channel at BBV today, but, as it turns out, the particular store I went to doesn't teach its employees how to do trade-ins. This employee managed to get $30 onto the account but not without removing the $30 I had on there previously from :wii: F4. The only other employee there was also very obviously a trainee and so she couldn't help at all. Looks like I'm going back up tomorrow to speak with a manager.

Yeah, that's what I have gotten a couple times already, rabbitt. They kept having to issue me a new card so that there won't be a glitch and accidentally lose all my credit. I hold 4 gift cards from them atm...

I'm pretty sure that actually happened to me last year, since I was sure I had a bunch of credit, but lost it. I might have lost like $70, tbh. :O

i'm officially done until the next coupon (if it's worth it).

start: $104 cash out of pocket, Blitz the league (360) from my personal collection, probably about $50 in gas (better to overestimate then underestimate)

end: $510.34 store credit, MGS4 LE (will sell hopefully for at least $80 cash), $30 in dvd's (grandma's boy, requiem for a dream) for 2 of my friends' bday's

not quite as ambitious as the $100 -> $1000 flippers, but my GS's and BBV's are farther apart, plus i'm scared of getting my credit taken away/banned, so i layed low for a while

thanks again io, and the other CAG's who contributed to this thread. until the next coupon/promotion, have fun guys
