Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
the dvd cases would be from a big field destroy today. we destroyed about 400+ movies at my store. what a waste but i guess thats the agreement we have with the studios. we have to put the disc thru a slayer and just throw them out and then we just throw out the cases since we dont need that many.
Sweet, cases. I'm heading to mine around 5 Pm to get some cases, they told me to head in around then. The good thing about having took classes with someone who works tehre. More cases for me :D
Used Blu Rays were 2 for $25 at local blockbuster this morning. Huge selection. Not sure if this is a new sale, so I figured i'd inform the masses.
By the back door they had two huge garbage bags full of $3.99 clearance movies(Spiderwick Chronicles, etc), along with some regular garbage. Not sure if they were empty cases. Hmmm.
2 for $25 has been going for a few weeks....problem is they do NOT come in Blu-Ray cases, so for us anal people, that sucks.
Pennied guides?
Doesn't look like it, as I had them price check the QOS and Civilization guides today and they were both full price.

They had a sign up on the door advertising a Memorial Day sale including games (I guess the POG stuff thats been talked about), starting on the 23rd.

Damn...Thanks for the answer. A BBV nearby has an entire aisle for guides, if half pennied, I'd cry for joy. I really want a few of them, as for the rest...I'll think of something.
Okay, I'm wondering about the PS3 limited edition of Brothers in Arms ($12.60 at Gamestop w/ coupon\Edge)...
If you don't mind my asking, what does BIA trade for at BB? Or is that the very question you're asking? haha
Crazy, there should be an agreement to give at least some away to a couple bums and hobos...At least...
How many homeless people have you seen watching DVD's?
How many homeless people have you seen watching DVD's?
Exactly...but there are other options, sending films to orphanages, hospitals, or bases in Iraq etc. Could get them some positive publicity, if Blockbuster cared about that sort of thing!
Exactly...but there are other options, sending films to orphanages, hospitals, or bases in Iraq etc. Could get them some positive publicity, if Blockbuster cared about that sort of thing!
Hospitals...that would make a world of sense. Sadly Sony and other major companies would rather have BB destroy the dvds.

Rather odd happenings at Blockbuster today. I decided to old school rent the new Punch-out rather than Gameflying it and of course it wasn't on the shelf as they had todays releases at the counter still. I went to the front and asked if I could get a copy and he said they didn't have it. He checked the computer to see when they were arriving and he said they wouldn't be getting the game in......

Um it's kinda a big game you sure you are not getting any in? Double checks says yea they aren't receiving any and checks to see what nearest store I could get it from... NO store in the local area is getting it in he says. Then he realizes what game i'm talking about and is like wtf. Says they have been having alot or trouble with suppliers and some companies won't give them releases... If they've lost Nintendo then that's pretty darn sad....

Went to Family Video and they are expecting 7 copies tomorrow or maybe later today as he suspected UPS only delivered half their expected delivery.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but my local BBV is selling new copies of Mario Super Sluggers (Wii) for $19.99.
That is one of the few clearance games they didn't send back for whatever reason. I believe it is still in the list in the OP, but I haven't looked for a while ;). I need to revamp that thing when I get the time which won't be any time soon unfortunately.
Not surprising to me at all - it has been this way for a while. The problem is, the Hollywood Video in my town is just as bad. There are actually a few recent games that I would like to rent: Night at the Museum, Klonoa, the new Boom Blox, and Up (which isn't out yet). I would only expect them maybe to have the first one of those. For whatever reason they don't ever carry family games despite this being a small rural town chock full of kids. Yet they always get 6-10 copies of the latest generic shooter for the 360 (that sits there unrented till they convert it over to used at which point it sits there unpurchased in the bin until it gets dirt cheap via a B1G1 - and sometimes even longer with things like Dark Sector ).

Despite all this, I do have an X-Blades that I bought at Target while travelling to DC last week with the express intent of trading to BBV. I may still trade that in if it is worth more than $20. I'll have to call and check on that. Didn't we have a $25 quote from a while back? In the old days I would have scoffed at a $16 (with tax) -> $25 trade-in but since I'm so low on credit I'll take it now. It's better than having to spend cash there, that's for sure. I can always use it on the 99 cent rentals if they never have another good used game sale.

just went to Blockbuster and had a bunch of 2.99 games (just the discs)

Halo 3
Army of Two
Gears of War
Turning Point

Call of Duty 4

did you buy any? those are supposed to be $6.99. looks like the prepacks will be hit and miss again. some stores in my area are getting them and some arent. weird thing just like last time is the busier stores dont look like they are getting them but the smaller stores are. there is not going to be any b1g1 for the holiday weekend but we are supposed to set up a endcap with the $6.99 prepacks.

Ah crap, not again. Anyone in Orange County (Irvine/Costa Mesa/Santa Ana) spot any of these yet? Might have to swing by a few on my way home after work.

Wow at the $2.99 360 games! I just stopped in my store and saw the following $2.99 POG (disc-only) Playstation 2 games:

50 Cent Bulletproof
Fight Night Round 3
God of War II
Guitar Hero III
Kingdom Hearts II
Manhunt 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
MLB 2K6
NBA 2K7
NCAA 08
Psychonauts
RE Outbreak
Shark Tale
Sopranos
Spiderman 3
SSX On Tour
Star Wars Battlefront II
THPG
THUG 2
Yu Gi Oh Capsule Monster Coliseum

They still had Ninja Reflex and Table Tennis for Wii left over from the President's Day POG sale - marked $6.99 as they have been for a few months now. So I would expect any new 360 or Wii POG games to also be $6.99. I don't know what wackiness ThisIsJackBauer stepped in on ;).

heh that might explain it... i looked at all of the labels and they say "PS2-prepack POG W/O cover art" maybe they mislabeled them lol

It's really too bad there's no trade-in program at GS that takes PS2 stuff except the PS2->PS3 trade-up program and a few 20% preorder bonus deals.

But a quick glance at the GS trade-in thread shows $5.75 for SW BF II, $5 for GH III, $8.25 for GoW II, $7.25(!) for FNR3 (which my store has 2 of!), and $4.75 for MUA. All are nearly close to or over 2x after Edge.

Probably the best way to trade-in PS2 stuff currently is under GS's 'Love the Movie, Live the Game' promo.

It will get you a 30% bonus + edge. You also get a free movie ticket at the time of reservation for the qualifying pre-orders.

Isn't there a rebate on Xblades to make it $10? BTW, did you try playing it and if so is it any good at all?

Also, Cranium Kaboookakku whatever still trades in for $16 as of Monday afternoon. I was slow to trade in my $5 Sears copy, but luckily it held at 16.

Hopefully, there will be some POGs that I don't already have.

The rebate is $5, $10 if you also buy Velvet Assassin I believe. The require you to send in the UPC though, I attempted to send it in without since I didnt feel like cutting up my cover art but they sent me back a letter telling me to get that part in. I've played my copy a bit, and its alright for the price of $15, but not worth the original 60.

bbv is running a promo for madden 10. with $5 down you get a $5 giftcard so what you could do is preorder it to get the $5 giftcard then when it comes out just cancel it and you get your $5 that you had originally put down back. this a change in what the promo used to be so your bbv may not be aware of it just tell them to check the communications update. it was with a $5 deposit you get a $5 giftcard when you pick up the game or if you paid off the game in full you would get the $5 giftcard.

Well, 2 weeks ago is an eternity in the trade-in business ;). But, yeah, I did end up trading it today and it is still $25. I did not play it - I opened it minutes prior to taking it in so I could swap out the case with one from a used game.

I also asked for some random trade-in values. Some of these are things I saw sitting around in my office that for the most part came from various clearances but I figured I could part with if they get me better stuff at BBV. Prepare to be underwhelmed:

:psp:
Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai - $4.50
Ultimate Block Party - could not find
World Championship Poker 2 - $0.50 (awesome!)

:360:
NFL Tour - $2.50
NHL 2K8 - $2.50

:ps2:
Da Vinci Code - $0.50

Man, those are pretty horrible. I was hoping for something from Ultimate Block Party and WCP 2 since I got them for 97 cents at Sears. Oh well, guess I keep 'em. That DBZ game I might trade in though - I could use a new PSP case for a used game I got at GS a few weeks ago.
What does POG stand for exactly?!
"Previously owned game" perhaps? Though really these should be "PRG" as they were former rentals and not trade-ins. I'm basing that on the relatively uniform set of games that showed up the last time they did this.

It's funny, but they are still using the same old category for these. They ring up as "PS2-PREPACK POG W/O COVER ART-SEPT 08" just like before. FWIW, I did confirm that these came in today (Tues) at my local store. They are pretty good at getting stuff out on the floor quickly but I would expect that any stores that were meant to get them already got them. Some may not have gotten around to opening them and others may be holding them for the weekend. I may try to call around tomorrow but I remember what a pain that was last time. Most employees have no idea what you are talking about when you ask for these.

It should be noted that there's also a new round of $3.99 clearance movies...

Anyway, just got back. Saw plenty of the no-cover clearance 360 games. Thay had Halo 3, Gears of War, Assasin's Creed, Dead Rising, Two World's. Also saw Ace Combat 6, DOA 4, Dirt, Fight Night Round 3, Superman Returns, and more. All right near a sign that said $6.99.

Also was quoted $6 for Brothers In Arms: HH (360, regular edition)

i'd think the Gamerushes would be more likely to get these in by now...but apparently not..was hoping to stop by a couple on my way home but it looks like ill just have to hope they come in tomorrow or by the weekend

IO, I posted a few pages back the your can now search other stores inventory to simplify things so you don't have to run around from store to store. Just have any store look up the prepack part number and have them hit F4 for search inventory. It will bring up the 10 closes stores and what they have in stock for rental, POG or brand new. The prepacks come in boxes of 30 so it will be easy to spot since most stores had/have an inventory of under 10.
In my area we don't get our shipments til Thursday so there is still hope if ur store hasn't received them yet.

The prepack part number is the same for all 360 games right? What i mean is that they don't have a separate one for each game title. Can someone post one of these for us :D

correct, it is one part # for all of them. i believe the part # is 241392. i'm not at work now so i'm not positive but that sounds right.

So was this a preplayed game?

Also, what is a prepack game? Previously played but packaged in the original box or what?

Thanks for the help!

Actually it is quite the opposite. All of these $1.99 Xbox/$2.99 PS2/$6.99 360 and presumably $6.99 Wii games (though no one has reported any more of those yet) we are talking about have generic UPCs for them to scan and they are all disc-only and in clear cases unlike most of their used game stock (which will either be in the original cases or the black Blockbuster ones if they are disc-only).

They ring up as generic "PS2-PREPACK POG W/O COVER ART-SEPT 08" (or similar) as I posted yesterday. Note that the stickers they scan on the cases will also say this (though it is truncated after COVER ART) so it is pretty clear what to look for. My store also had them properly tagged at $2.99 so that made it super-obvious, but not all stores will be that clear about it.

lol I saw I had that game on my pc the other day & I've been playing it recently. Fun guilty pleasure game.

Well I went to 2 stores today and neither had anything. I'll probably go to 2 more tomorrow near my gf's since it's her bday. Hoping to find another CoD 4 since I sold mine and maybe stuff to flip.

edit: Halo 3: $6.99 > 18.74. Sounds good to me.

It took 3 stores but I finally found one that had something. I picked up (all PS2 - $2.99)

Bully
Godfather
God Of War
GTA: Vice City Stories
Guitar hero 3
Guitar hero 80's
MX vs. ATV Untamed
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Red Dead Revolver (figure id give it a play before the new one comes out)
Star Wars Battlefront 2

If all of a systems PPGs have the same UPC code, wouldn't that make it possible to return as "defective" whatever game you decide to put into the case? (Not saying I would actually do such a thing at this point, just wondering...)

Yes, it also makes it a bitch to try and get one of the yellow security locks removed later on since they cant prove that you actually bought the game. I had a store that didnt take the lock out, and rather than turning around I went to the next store on my trip to get it removed, I got some bad looks from the ppl there...

Yeah, but... you're only getting $2.99 for it so what's the point?

Anyway, I just tried calling and now it is even more futile than before. The guy told me they had Wii and 360 games in the clear cases. I asked how many and he said "a handful". So I asked him if they had a lot and just sold a ton or if they never got that many. He said they had a lot and sold them. OK... I'm really doubting that they sold that many of these things since yesterday. After I got off the phone with him I realized he was probably talking about the leftovers from the President's Day sale . So now we have that confusion to deal with. I know of a few stores with multiple things left over from that so even if they look up stock on the computer there's that confusion to deal with.

Anyway, I'm heading up to another store right now. This one never got anything last time so we'll see how it goes.

its not that confusing at least where i am. a few stores have some leftovers from the presidents day sale but of the 10 closes stores to me only 3 of them have leftovers. and of those 3 stores they only have 4, 5 and 8 prepacks in inventory. if a store gets any prepacks they will come in boxes of 30. so if ur store is lucky they will get 30 ps2, 30 x360 or whatever but it is always is groups of 30. so having them look up the specific part number will easily identify what 10 stores in the area got anything in.

hey this new system is actually something that helps us out so why dont we take advantage of it i know it makes things easier for me.

No POGs at either store right by me which had them before. Hopefully I can find some as you guys have found some really good deals even though they are disc only. BG2 for 3 bucks is nice. I saw a few of the old POGs marked to 6.99 like 360 Sega Rally and WWE 2008, but nothing new. Also saw a Singstar I had traded in. Had a hand written note stating it came with two mics and sold for 29.99, six bucks less than they gave me for it. They're Kabookiing themselves there!

2 stores in the OC have PS2 POG items, but nothing else. Valley View / Lampson have 125 PS2 games, and Warner / Bolsa Chica had 90 PS2 games. Nothing I'm interested in so have at.
