Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Lego Indy and Lego Batman might be good to snatch up in this BOGO deal. I haven't played either one yet and I rather enjoyed the Star Wars ones. Just might have to jump on that.
Big ass list
THANK YOU :applause:

I see a couple things i'd like to grab for myself and i'll pass this along to a couple friends as well.

I haven't stepped foot in BBV since those plain case games started hitting stores. :)

So the only games that qualify for the GS Fight Night Deal that are in the BBV B1G1 is Bioshock and GTA IV? I'm on the hunt for those.

Bioshock 360
GTA IV 360 & PS3

Folklore PS3

I think that is all, possibly 360 version of ME & PS3 version of Bioshock being $15 as well.

lego batman $10

Interesting. Another potential exploit in this upcoming b1g1 :p Shame it's not for more... but 14.99 -> 20.00 credit just doesnt seem worth getting trade-banned :(

Man that FNR4 deal is amazing. Basically, for $45 @ BBV you can get 2 copies of the game. I'm getting more and more bummed I'll be missing this.

From Hawaii's list, these are the games that would qualify for the FNR4 deal.
I've checked the last few pages and didn't see this anywhere so I'll ask. Can I buy a few games now and do a return/rebuy or get the B1G1 discount applied when it begins?
It might be possible but returns at BBV have never been an easy thing. And keep in mind these are used games and they don't have the 7 day satisfaction guarantee thing that GS has so they are really only supposed to take them back if they don't work. I wouldn't risk it - just scout out what you want and get there early on Tuesday. Or they might hold them for you on Monday night at least - my local store is going to do this for me.
Is the $12.50 meant to mean 2 of those bought at BBV for $25 total with the deal. Meaning, you can buy the games at BBV and then sell them back to them? Or is it somewhere else for that price.
No, no - read the OP. We don't talk about BBV-to-BBV flipping here. I meant it is $12.50 at Target. Sorry, I was kind of carrying over the conversation from the Amazon trade-in deal thread. I finally found a couple of NFS Undercover Thursday night at Target to use for the Amazon traed-in. But when I went to trade them it had no value (later Friday it came back up at $16). So I thought the $19 at BBV was a nice outlet for them given the B1G1 sale. I'm going to trade one in at my local store tomorrow and keep the credit there to get my stuff on Tuesday.

I'll merge Hawaiiboy's list with mine (though I'm sure he has everything there anyway).

OK, I incorporated Hawaiiboy's big list. There were actually several things not on there that were in mine, so it was good to merge the two.

What strikes me is how little the prices have changed since the last B1G1 sale in December. Besides a few obvious exceptions (like Mirror's Edge, Lego Batman) the prices are all nearly the same as they were 7 months ago. For example, I already have $14.99 copies of GTA IV, DMC 4, Incredible Hulk and $9.99 copies of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, PotC, Untold Legends, and several others (all bought during the last B1G1 sale).

A few things stand out, though: Mirror's Edge, Bioshock for PS3 (though I haven't seen this anywhere - will have to ask for a stock check on that one), and My Sims Kingdom for Wii. I was just looking at that at Fred Meyer the other day and I told my daughter I'd get it when it was cheap - well, the time is now if I can find a decent copy.

I imagine the DS list would be much more intriguing - thing is, my local store, for example, only has about 3 used DS games. They only have about 20 games each at the $14.99 and $9.99 price points in total, actually and very little else cheaper or more expensive than that.

Wow. You can get Fight Night for essentially under 25 after tax? Tempting.

Hawaii thanks for the lists! I updated the TIV post with your... generously large list. Much appreciated, as I don't have much to do at 2 in the morning. ;) A couple of odd things-- one, is that a lot more TIV stayed at the same value then I thought would. Maybe not a big shocker as most of their TIVs are low anyway. But the second thing was that two games actually went up in value, if my old values were accurate and Hawaii's are accurate: Supreme Commander from 8.00 to 12.00, and Oblivion Game of the Year going from 8.00 to 17.00.

Thanks for the list Hawaiiboy.

With a quick glance, that TIV list says Race pro is $19. At Eb it just dropped to 19.99. A nice way to move some credit :D

Quick update with a price drop taking effect tomorrow. X360 quantum of solace is dropping to $14.99 and it's in the fight night deal so that is good news. It's only dropping for the x360 though. I'll have the entire list of changes up tonight sometime along with the NDS prices.
Hawaii, i dont need a membership to purchase used games, correct?
No membership needed for purchases, no.

need to move some credit...

what do you guys think I shoul d about these gcn games I bought last sunday (from GS)

harvest moon magical melody
gcn controller
starfox adventures
luigis mansion
wave race
star wars rebel strike
sonic mega collection
chibi robo
wind waker LoZ
ssx 3

If I return those I get back 70 dollars store credit so I can shift that to BBV...or do you think I can sell those on craigslist for more than 70? And before tuesday...also today is my last day to return those to GS.

Well, I'm fresh out of credit at either place but I may want to put some cash into this, especially if it turns into a 2x flip to GS that way I can save when it comes time for the fall releases. Mirror's Edge and Sigma are my highest wants on that list.

Orange Box for PS3 trades for 50 cents... really?
But they don't sell it for really cheap - how odd.

I'll incorporate the changes and DS list later tonight. I hope that's OK with everyone.

My blockbuster has basically gutted the entire gaming side. They have cut down on everything, also they don't do trade-ins there anymore. I wondering if all blockbusters will be going that way?

Combing TIV's and promos for Blockbuster, FYE, and Gamestop. Getting a frickin' headache.
There's a few 2x flips to FYE with the bag promo(we ski, Mario sonic Olympics)
Not a lot of 2x flips towards Gamestop tiered promo, especially since you need 6 different titles to get the 50%.
Should be enough titles out there to get FightNightRd4.
Gamestop store locator now showing used Ghostbuster and Infamous availability in local stores.

This sale looks to best for people looking to stock up their collection. My closest store has an abnormal amount of DS games.

I'll hit my store after work....hopefully the local resellers mom wont be able to take him before then. lol....he's like 25...

I feel like I'm missing something guys. When everyone keeps talking about the credit boost, are you either planning on utilizing the fight night 4 trade in deal and then returning the game or is everyone looking for games like GTA which trade in really high if you trade them with 5 other games? I've been reading for the last few days and I still feel like I'm missing the major excitement. I guess it's because of the dramatic drop in BBV TIVs.

anyone know how the racepro TIV will hold up at BBV, and if it is still 19?

Also when does BBV typically change their trade in values?

Hopefully RacePro will still sell for 19 @ BBV.

Besides Fight Night deal, the major excitement is a LOT of good prices on games that are worth keeping.
Last B1G1 in Dec/Jan Gamestop ran a coupon one week for an extra $5 on any Wii game, that was a gold mine.
Last summer there was the Trade 3 get an extra $15.
So while in the past this would be a huge opportunity to build gamestop credit, as of now it looks more like a build up the backlog sale.
Even if Gamestop switches promos, they have been running trade 3 get $10, instead of last years $15.

Right now GTA is the only one on my radar and I believe it trades in for 15 so that's double with the b1g1. There probably isn't going to be an abundance of high trades like this and it will be VERY difficult to move credit back to BBV with the low tiv's. I figure, I'm going to spend cash on games this fall anyways, so why not spend that cash and turn it into a profitable amount of credit.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't really see a great opportunity for either. I might grab a few games just to round out a 6 game trade (for 40% bonus) at GS. I doubt I'll find enough of the qualifying games to do the FNR4 thing. The only one I saw at my local store was Mirror's Edge for PS3 and I want to keep that (for now).

Well, no one has been trading that much recently so it might have changed, but they used to change values on Monday. So you are probably best off trading it this weekend if you want to be safe. I'm taking a NFS Undercover in today, hopefully. I'll just leave that on my account at my local store because I plan on getting 2 $14.99 games and 2 $9.99 games on Tuesday there.

Anyway, I just don't see this as a great flip opportunity from BBV -> GS. But it should be a decent enough sale to round out your collection with some not-quite-so-new 360/PS3/Wii stuff.

I for one see it simply as an oppertunity to snag a couple decent games like gta4 and resistance and get them both for under 15 bucks. Ive only a small collection of games..........about 10 or so, but each was had for less than 12 dollars or so.

Thanks for the responses guys. I feel better now because I didn't want to seem pessimistic, but this sale just didn't excite me like past sales have. I don't disagree that there is a good potential for "adding to the backlog", but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing the big picture. Thanks again!

I just signed up for goozex and other than maybe one or two titles I wanted for my own collection, I was looking at good games to trade back on goozex and between my discount plus this deal there is quite a lot of things I can get. Even without any extra discount you could get some great trades to goozex, depending if you can get the ships traded decently quick before the points drop a lot.

I personally made a list of games that will trade in at a higher price than it will be with B1G1. If I find 6 games to trade in, I will bother to trade them. Otherwise, I'm just going to pick up a few games I actually want.
I did trade in Race pro tonight, it is $19 at BBV. Hopefully it holds.
What game is this, exactly, and is it available cheap somewhere?

Its race pro 360, its 19.99 at gamestop so a break even flip to BB.

It's currently $20 used at GameStop ($18 after Edge) Might not be too bad if one was considering moving credit back to GS (via the B1G1 at BBV)

And for anyone interested, I cross-referenced a few games in hawaiiboy's lists of $14.99 and under games with the GS TIVs provided by jp in the GS TIV thread and found some Wii/DS titles that might be good.

:wii: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics - $14.99 at BBV, latest report of $12 at GS.

:wii: House of the Dead 2 & 3 - $9.99 at BBV, latest report of $9 TIV at GS.

:wii: Okami - $9.99 at BBV, latest report of $8.50 TIV at GS.

:wii: Spiderman: Friend or Foe - $9.99 at BBV, latest reported $9 TIV at GS.

:wii: Tony Hawk Proving Ground and Wall-E had fairly outdated TIVs, so they were up in the air.

:ds: Locke's Quest - $9.99 BBV, latest report of $8 TIV at GS.

:ds: Lego Batman - $14.99 at BBV, latest report of $10.25 TIV at GS.

some of these may be outdated, but a majority were (at most) a month or month and a half old, if not much less. So if those values are close to their current values, most of those are going to be roughly 2x flips.

Yes, and many 9.99 games have $5.50 or $6 TIVs. So with just two, there is still some profit. Maybe not worth it unless you were moving credit to GS, but there is still credit to be made.

Does anyone know if eternal sonata (ps3 version) falls under the 14.99 category? I didn't see it on the front page and was wondering if someone knew.
