Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

you're way off base.

I have to agree, Bezerker is a stand up guy. You guys who are bashing him, just don't have any history in this thread. Just let it go.

I'll also defend Bezerker. He may brag, but he's certainly contributed a lot to this thread.

My favorite Bezerker moment was when he complained about being banned and having to trade under someone's account. He then promptly posted a pic of his receipt where he traded in a stack of games for around $2xx.xx in credit (including multiples).

This thread just hasn't been the same for anyone after the demise of the trade-in system at BBV. There's no need to defend yourself, Bezerker.
The latest wii flips have given me an additional $250 in GS credit. I still have $20 BBV credit left...Its going to my dad. He thinks BBV's previously viewed DVDs are a great deal
Well, they're certainly not a bad deal, and their 4/20 deal which seems to be running on a while now can have some good finds

Is Bullet Witch for 360 really $5? My store had 1 copy left but the sticker said $16.99. Hell for $5 I would have picked it up for sure, haha.
Hopefully to Big Lots or something. Though for some reason, I'm thinking Overstock. I think a few years ago they sold Hollywood Video's used/old stuff. I remember when they had $1 DVDs and VHS tapes. *sigh* I miss when Overstock actually HAD deals. I got Tetris DS and Rub Rabbits real cheap when they did Deal O' The Day. Reason I also think that is because they sell used games on there.
I heard one employee say they'd be sending the games "to DC", which I assumed was some sort of warehouse in Washington DC, but then I figured it stood for Distribution Center. Anyway I got a cool YMMV on my last (ever?) Blockbuster purchase, there was a 360 Fallout 3 CE marked at 39.99, I thought that was weird because it was 59.99 when I tried to get it at the beginning of the sale. And sure enough, it rang up at 59.99 but the guy gave it to me for 39.99, I guess they're pretty much "who gives a shit?" right now when it comes to games!

Several of the Blockbusters I went to looked as if it was still Day 1 of the sale, with a table full of games, all nice and neat. It doesn't look as if Joe Public has really bitten on this sale. (and as I looked through the games, an employee enthusiastically told me that this was the last weekend of the sale so I should buy now if I wanted anything). I totally get why they're selling the unsold games off to liquidators; there's stuff sitting there that's half the price of retail, and it just isn't moving. Not just crap either, I saw Smash bros, rock band, Assassin's creed, Mario Strikers etc. Its The Greatest Clearance Sale That Nobody Noticed. (And yet the internet is exploding over this run-of-the-mill Best Buy sale?!)

I agree with ya haha. The only reason I like the Best Buy sale is because its more games for me to get more 360 achievements in haha. But if your looking for quality, this sale is better than Best Buy's selection easy. At the beginning of this sale, my store had Rock Band 1 complete bundles for $54.99. Cheapest I've seen before was $69.99 clearanced down at Target. Oh well, I guess its over tommorow and this will probably get shadowed over the Best Buy deal. I just hope I can snag that last Bullet Witch for $5 tommorow haha.

Yeah, I never even bothered to go to Best Buy to prepurchase the couple of things I wanted. I probably won't go tomorrow either.

I have to say that some things did sell out around here at the BBV sale. It is weird, because all those Super Mario Galaxies at nearly every store that sat there unbought at $25 for 3 months all of a sudden sold during this sale. So their increased marketing (in store) for the sale helped a bit. I also don't see SSBB around any more. But a lot of the other stuff, includng even the Rock Band bundles, are sitting in some places. Sad, really - I'm sure the hordes that will be at Best Buy would think this sale is better too, but for whatever reason people just never accepted Blockbuster selling new games. They could all be $5 and I bet it would take a while for people to catch on.

I made some good scores tonight and a few bad decisions. Both of the stores in my town are wiped clean, but I hit up my old store (about 45 minutes away in a neighboring town) and of course it had plenty. I had $19 credit but was having trouble deciding.
They had Warioland Shake It ($20) and Sonic Dark Chonicles ($15). I just got a 360 though and really wanted some more games for it, so I bought :)bomb:) Lost Odyssey for $26. I thought it was still somewhat expensive everywhere, but it's like $30 retail and $28 on Amazon. I also picked up GTA IV used for $15, which seems decent.
My g/f picked up GrimGrimoire for $15 and Unlimited Saga for $5 (which we already have). So now I need to return LO and Unlimited Saga. I'm hoping I can get my friend at the other store to hold Warioland until I go back their wednesday.

Thanks for the backup guys.

Kind of late to be posting this since today is the last day for the deal, but it looks like with the 40% bonus, Gamestop "supposedly" pays $26.60 for Bully for the Wii (or $27.15 with the Trade 4 bonus). I cant quite remember if the game was $9.99 or $14.99 used, but it makes for a decent conversion of credit (hell, even for cash its not too shabby).

I talked to my local BB manager about the retraction of the games and he told me that Blockbuster is just clearing all the old stock to have fresher, newer games for the consumers, he also told me that the trade-in program would continue. So maybe they are just having the newer releases for sale? I hope that's the case..I would hate to see the trade in program end.

I hope they stick with video games too if for no other reason than maybe they'll have another clearance deal like this one. But what your manager said makes little sense to me. They're willing to dump "old stock" like GTA, Fallout 3, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World and every DS game they couldn't sell at deep discount, just so they can put $60 games on the shelves to not sell?

Also, I'm amazed by the frenzy of the Best Buy sale. That thread has 3x more views than this one in a much shorter span, yet that sale pales in comparison to this one (and a lot less frustrating IMO).

people buy junk when it is priced this cheap. Black friday TV deals are the perfect example.

I dunno today was bittersweet. Traded rock revolution for 19.00 and cashed out all my credit on a new 360 because my deck rrod this morning. The assistant manger took my trade and commented that ALL used games are gone as of the 1st of May even the games coming off rental. She is in fear they are going under. She showed me the recall sheet it was over 700 items. I kinda felt chump paying 14 and change for a new deck.

TRUTH.

The assistant manger took my trade and commented that ALL used games are gone as of the 1st of May even the games coming off rental.

that is not true. i did the list at my store today and we transferred out 99% of new retail games(a few random games werent on the list for some odd reason). all traded games are gone and about 1/5 of the used games we had.

Unfortunately this makes more sense than the notion they are clearing out old for new. In retail, you do anything to sell an item before transferring it (pull, list, pack, ship, ship cost, unpack, account, invoice...). I'm sad... lots of great, hardworking staff members at the stores I shop...

I went to my local BBV and they had about 10-20 boxes being packed up and the clearance games were all gone. There was only a fraction of the games that they usually had on sale too, so it seems to be a pretty significant change. I know I have no reason to go to BBV anymore after seeing that, unless they start to restock things, but it doesn't make sense that they would.

Traded in one copy of rock rev today from Best Buy and managed to grab a copy of ssmb:brawl literally just before the manager transferred everything out of the system. Don't really have the heart to bother doing the 10.50$->19$ in credit anymore (particularly because the games for sale section is a ghost town). I dunno, people talk a lot of shit about blockbuster but I'm going to miss their contribution to the game market if they are really winding down.

I guess I'm one of the ones who had no idea that there were any good current deals to be had at BBV. I used to frequent the BBV thread a lot, did a lot of trading there, etc. I found a local store that gave much better trade-in values and after that I only went there for deals.

Thinking about the how/why this slipped under my radar, I think the problem is that there HAVEN'T been any good deals in a long time at these stores, just a lot of mediocre ones (games at $25+ clearance prices isn't enough to get my interest). I had pretty much written BBV as a company/store off months ago and stopped checking the thread altogether. Finally they drop these prices on some games into greater deal status, but I (and I guess many others) were no longer paying attention.

Meanwhile this thread continues in the similar title and format as it has for months and months, so there was nothing eye-catching about it. Why would I think anything great was going on? The thread title talks about SMG for $25 and Bio PS3 for $20. On the face of it, those are exactly the mediocre kind of deals we had been seeing. Not that the prices are BAD, they just aren't attention-grabbing. I mean, the vast majority of those who would be interested already have both of those games (SMG a long time ago, Bioshock for the now-long clearanced PC or 360 versions) anyway.

I'm not complaining or blaming anyone. Just trying to explain how this sale can go relatively unnoticed, even by long-time CAGs. It needed a front-page promotion or perhaps an offshoot thread that was not in the long-standing BB/GR format that would grab attention. You'd probably get a lot more interest with "Warioland: Shake It! only $19.99!! and other deals...." Since that game is relatively new and it's below the $20 barrier. When somebody posted a complaint: "Doesn't this belong in the official thread" you could respond with "Probably, but most people would never notice it there."

Sorry for the long post. Just my thoughts.

I can understand that. To be honest, I was always surprised this deal never got front-page promoted. Maybe that helped me still be able to find a PS3 GTA IV CE a month later, but it's a shame how many CAGs will miss out.

I went to Blockbuster today after being dissapointed by Best Buy...

the guy told me they were going to start shipping games back soon.

So I ended up buying WarioLand Shake It! and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

I think imma go back for some PSP and DS games.

They didn't have Uncharted =(

Today was the last day for a couple of stores I went to today. Picked up Umbrella Chronicles, Trace Memory, & Rogue Galaxy for $25. I'm hoping they aren't sending back accessories too. I'd like to turn some Best Buy gift cards into Rock Revolution then turn those into Blockbuster for some PSN & Wii point cards.

Somehow I forgot about RR while I was at Best Buy today, so tomorrow I'll probably stop by my local BBV & see if they have anything decent in their used game section & then flip a copy of RR to get it just in case they do get rid of games altogether. There have been a few things I've wanted but was holding out for a B1G1 sale. But I guess, this is almost the same with the almost 2:1 flip.

Um, sorry, but the thread title has "NEW game clearance 4/10" with a couple of examples and a "+ more!". If that wasn't enough to get the casual CAG to at least check out the OP and see what was happening then they deserve to miss it.

I changed that title after closing down all the offshoot threads that did pop up. If I see something with a new date in a long-running clearance thread I'd be sure to check it out. FWIW, Mario Galaxy is the one game that pretty much disappeared as soon as this sale "started" even though it has been that price for a long time ;).

Anyway, I just got back from Best Buy with a couple of Rock Rev. I was going to see if they still had Lego Batman at my local store but if others are seeing the games packed up then I'm probably out of luck. My store is always on top of these things - but I'll pop up there to check it out in a minute.

I wonder how they are going to handle returns? Because I may bery well be returning several games that were good purchases with credit but since I ran out of credit and was using cash more recently I may just want that back. Though I did just find a $5 gift card in my drawer...

Picked up Super Mario Galaxy for $19.99, We Ski (had to start using the Wii Fit board for something other than Wii Fit) for $19.99 and Samba de Amigo for $9.99 last weekend (note: SdA is $10 with the BB sale). Also, saw a Spider-Man wii game.

I looked at the BBV at Raleigh, but I couldn't find a lot of the games that I wanted. Anyone near me find these games?
Bioshock PS3
Super Mario Galaxy
Advance Wars DS

Well, I do have a pretty awesome local store - too bad they are small and don't have much stock. Instead of robotically packing everything up in advance, they painted a message in the window that says "New games as low as $9.99 until Tuesday!". So they are waiting as long as possible before sending them back. I did notice that by featuring the games prominently over the weekend (they had the cases outside on a table much of the time) they sold quite a few of them.

But if anyone wants Mario Super Sluggers and missed out let me know - they still have 3 of those. I'd love to give this store some real money for a change!

I traded in a PS3 Rock Rev and bought 360 Lego Batman. Unfortunately there isn't anything else I want there at these prices (another cut would have been nice ). I had just traded a 360 Rock Rev there a week ago or so, and wouldn't normally trade another so soon, but I figure at this point it makes little difference.

I did notice that they had pulled a lot of game-related items into stacks behind the counters - like the Guitar Hero toy amp things. So I guess all that stuff is going away.

Samba is actually $5 at BBuy till 5/2 when you print the $5 off gamer's club coupon

Isn't the $10 price considered "clearance" so the further discount couldn't be used?

If so, but it still works, I'm all for doing this, and returning Infinite Undiscovery for the same effect.
How is BBV as far as trading in 2-3 copies of the same game? Risky or probably ok?
That definitely used to be risky, but considering that whole thing may be going away soon, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just keep in mind you may get the attention of a Junior Detective who will assume the only way you'd have more than 1 game is because you stole them from somewhere. That can cause headaches.

That sounds good, I had 2 copies of a PS3 game and I traded 1 in last week or so. I guess I'll try again this week. I'll try to buy a gift card or something. I just don't like how I have to spend the balance at the same store I traded in at, but I understand it.

Actually, Samba de Amigo is only $5 at the BB sale if you use your Reward Zone card, since there's a $5 off coupon in the system for it.

You don't have to; you can have them put the credit on a BBV value card. This also means you can trade your extra copies to other BBV with a lesser chance you'll get "caught" (since trading multiples to a single store is a good way of drawing attention).

I saw awhile back that someone mentioned not being able to buy gift cards (Macy's, Chili's, etc) using BBV value cards, BBV gift cards, or store credit. Is this still the case at every store or is YMMV? I haven't been inside a BBV in a long time and doubt I will trade anymore games since it looks like its not worth it anymore. Would rather turn my remaining credit into Macy's gift cards if possible. I don't really want anymore games and their blu-rays are way overpriced. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I'm going to check a local BBV today to see if they still have the clearance games. Also, are we sure that the used games are going away too, and without a clearance or sale? If so I guess I should look through what's there. Or is that just speculation?

Odd that this sale has been rather under the radar regarding it's fervor despite easily eclipsing the best buy sale in terms of quality games and pricing. Been lucky enough to snatch up new copies of Grid, Civilization Revolution, Wario Land Shake It! and Lego Batman for 20 a piece. Just phoenonenal, too bad Far Cry was 30 for the 360 which remains my system of choice for all the multiplatform titles. Checked out at least seven blockbusters in my surroundng area of Wisconsin and most seem to be running out on the true quality stuff.

Then I guess I deserve to miss it, although obviously I'm far from the only one. The OP title never struck me as much different that it has been in past months when there were clearances with unexciting prices. The Target thread is the same way. I stop checking it because sometimes there are months where nothing worth it goes on clearance. When something finally does, I'm not paying attention any more and unless I see a reference in another thread, I'm out of the loop.

And that's fine. I'm not saying that the faithful, vigilant CAG should not benefit from their diligence.

I was just explaining how this seemed to slip under the radar of many because it was brought up.

I agree with you, at times it is not immediately obvious that there is something significant going on, but you don't know if there is unless you keep up with the threads. People will share their finds but they aren't going to slap you across the face with it to make sure you are paying attention. There are tons of hidden gems that are not viewable to the naked eye on this site. I've all but given up on flipping, which was used to fund my overall gaming habits, due to the lack of solid deals out there now as well as the economy being in a position that doesn't lend well to such deals. I didn't come along to the flipping until last year, but it sounds like last year was a generational opportunity led by poor management by some companies that are paying for it now.

today,
my first store won't even take in any RR. I think they are finally catching on, either that the manger sees me as a flipper with just RR alone.
So I went to 2nd store with 360 Sing it and QoS, they got denied, but still able to trade in ps3+360 RR.

If it's over, it was a great run. Only due to some ridiculous trade in values. Nabbed Kabookii & Rock Revolution from the B2G1 from Gamestop yesterday, stopped at Kmart, got another Kabooki, and proceeded to get Warioland: Shake It, and Boom Blox, and a 1 Month Live card. After my purchases, all the remaining games were boxed up by the manager. Great deals were to be had on this one. Congrats to those who made out. And to those who didn't, another one will come along. They always do.

Blockbuster is STILL taking in trades, even though they're just gonna ship them off?

:whistle2:s

And what evil plan do you think they have for all those copies of Rock Revolution?

So the $5 off is applied automatically when you use your Rewards Zone card? Has anyone actually been able to get SDA for $5? If so, then I'm going to go back tomorrow and pick up the game.

Has anyone ever seen controllers or accessories at anything less than full price? I'd love to pick up a cheap ps3 controller or blu-ray remote but they're always full price. Does anyone know whether these items were sold off to liquidators?
