Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

If you look at the last page u will see a long post of mine that says I bought GTAIV for 14.99 today. If you read further back you will see the same info. Good luck finding it mistagged $6.99 tho.

had a $22.xx giftcard leftover from the last b1g1 so i hit up 2 bbvs hoping to spend it all along with some cash. only left with onechanbara 360 and star wars lightsaber wii. im in the market for a new digital camera so i need to get scrounge up some amazon credit fast.

OK, I updated the OP with the latest prices. Lots to say though...
A reminder for those who wants to flip to Amazon, most BBV used games don't have the original case / manual. Well, at least it's true from several stores that I visited yesterday in SoCal. Happy Hunting. :)
Interesting, because I find that most games at BBV DO have the actual case/manual as opposed to places like GS (especially with the DS games which GS is horrible with).
I know, its just that it is such a bad deal. Most any game gets more then $3.00!
Well, they sell it used for $9.99 - what would you expect it to be?
They said, no, you cannot do that. Either buy them all at one time or just buy part of them then walk in tomorrow to buy the rest!!! The manager didnot even want to listen to me when I told them that I just want to buy them seperately!! She accused me of manipulating the price. She said:"we are a retail business and will not allow guys like you to manipulate our price system???"
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. I had the pleasure of dealing with one of the regulars today. While she rang me up (proprerly hitting total between each pair of like-priced games) she made a point of telling her new colleague to make sure she rings them up in this way to get the customer the proper discount ;).
Guides:
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed x 4
Metal Gear Solid 4 x 2
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe x 2
Street Fighter IV x 2
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Ah, hell, I completely forgot to check for these at the store I went to today. Well, in any case, I think it would be highly YMMV to get away with the 1 cent pricing on these. To the guy wondering what he should do about them not selling them for that price, I say there isn't much you can do. They are clearly not meant to be sold at that price.

Also, I completely forgot about Cranium Kabooki. But I don't feel so bad now because I just looked it up at GS and just like during the last B1G1 it is really not available around me (nearest is 30 miles). Yeah, it's easy credit - IF you can find it ;).
Oh actually something notable came up though. I don't have a 360, but I was looking through the selection to see if there was anything I could use for trades. And I did see 1 GTA IV for $6.99. The case was in good condition but I don't know if there was a manual or not. Probably a price mistake as the list on the OP says its $14.99..
See, now here's something I wanted to bring up anyway. You say "but I don't know if there was a manual or not". Did it have the original art work too? Because the $6.99 pricing that I'm seeing reported on a few games that otherwise are $9.99 or $14.99 could indicate that it is leftover stock from the disc-only game sale they had a few months back. Remember, they had a wide assortment of 360 and Wii games all for $9.99 - the catch was they were all disc only in special clear cases. They had plenty of GTA IV, along with SSBB, Mario Galaxy, and many others. Some of the lesser titles are sure to be sitting around, still. The price on those dropped from $9.99 to $6.99 - so I think some of the "mistags" and odd cheap prices some people get are because they were these special disc-only games. Note that they may have even stuck an original art work in there too just because they had an extra or something. But the way to tell if it is the special pricing is to see if it says something like "Prepack POG w/o cover art" on the bar code.

My point, though, is that when people report pricing (especially if it is $6.99) please be clear if these are original/complete games or the disc-only refurb clear-case versions. I don't want to update something from $14.99 to $6.99, for example, if it is a highly YMMV leftover prepack game from months back.

And also please no more talk of checking games out from the library. It has got absolutely nothing to do with Blockbuster .

Poor io. My 4 closest GS's have Cranium Bu*****. Thanks for reminding me to look though.

I forgot to mention earlier... A franchise store was running this sale, but the second store I visited, a corporate store, was not. The clerk said it was not in his weekly map or whatever. He called another store and they agreed. Jerk wouldn't even let me scan a couple games to see if it automatically worked.

You should check out what he did in the Target thread, that got ugly.
I am also in the same boat as io with Cranium, I think there is one store that has it within 30 miles of me, but it is 20 miles and it isn't worth the effort.
Coupld of other random things, all of the games I got were not the clear case POGs, and all but 2 of the games were complete. Also the Rock Revolutions I traded a few months ago seemed to all be gone. Someone bought them at whatever outrageous price BB is charging? Brand new copies are dramatically cheaper than that these days.

went to 3 blockbusters tonight and they had nothing even close to worthwhile. I am really looking for F1 and UT3 PS3 for 9.99, Haze and Untold Legends for 9.99 and Bioshock/Burnout for 14.99 for my cousin. Argh.

Oh, my bad about that. Yeah it was in its original green case, with the artwork. I doubt the $6.99 price was the correct price though. Seems like other people have been getting it for $14.99 so I'm pretty sure my store just mistagged it. Sorry about that.

I have a couple more Blockbusters I wanna check tomorrow, since I'm not 100% sure I wanna keep Armored Core 4:ps3: with how the disc looks. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was resurfaced, which sucks because I think PS3 discs are even easier to get scratched once they lose that initial protective coating.

Oh well, hopefully I can hit at least two more stores today sometime and they have something decent left.

I have a hunch that Heavenly Sword might be 14.99, but it's just one of those rare titles that's hard to find at BBV like Uncharted. I just remembered one of my stores had Heavenly Sword for $19.99 recently. An employee at this store just said he bought a ps3 slim and bought a bunch of the ps3 games that were 14.99 for the B1G1. Heavenly Sword was gone today, so i guess he bought it. If anyone sees this game in their travels, please price check it if you get a chance.

There was a copy of Heavenly Sword at my closest Blockbuster just last week, but when I checked that store on my way home today it was gone. So it may well have dropped to $15 now, Sonic.

Oh yeah, the Mirror's Edge I picked up for PS3 was $9.99 . Had the case and everything, so maybe a drop from $14.99? I don't know, maybe my BBV just got their prices mixed up :D

Picked up
360
Frontlines Fuel of War
(orig case, no booklets)
(2 copies for 6.99 total)
At another BBV
Dark sector (black case no booklet)
Tomb Raider Legend (orig case & booklet)
Spider-man Web of Shadows (orig case & booklet)
Ninja Gaiden (pre-order case no booklet)
$22.00 four games

My cousin lives in Grand rapids (50 miles or so from me) and saw that yesterday with Uncharted both marked 19.99... I can have him check these for you tonight.

Were both supposed to be 14.99 or was uncharted pegged at 19.99?

I was at the one close to me. Not a whole lot I really cared about, but I picked up Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad, and TNA Impact, just to have it paired up with something. I might check one or two others a little further out, but it depends if I go into town anytime between now and when the sale ends.

I'm new to this tread, is there an updated list of prices? or is the lsit on Page one updated as the new prices and titles come available?

Thanks,
Also, I completely forgot about Cranium Kabooki. But I don't feel so bad now because I just looked it up at GS and just like during the last B1G1 it is really not available around me (nearest is 30 miles). Yeah, it's easy credit - IF you can find it ;).
I bought 3 copies of Cranium Kabooki and a PS2 game for $14 at one blockbuster and traded them in at another BBV in another district.
Pretty nice flip since I turned $15 into $48 + a free PS2 game.:booty:
Yea, every single game I bought yesterday was complete.

I went to 6 Blockbuster's near my home and work, and I found nothing. I was mainly looking for Resistance: fall of man and Devil May Cry 4 (either system). I still have like, two more to check out. I will do that today!

Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad @9.99 on Wii and Mercenaries 2 for PS3. Al for 10.59 or whatever out the door. Not bad.

Then i picke dup locks quest DS and MYsims Party for another 10.59.

A few things I figured I would add to the thread.

I checked the pricing at an out of Stock Blockbuster. She told me the store that had the heavenly sword same one I knew had it in stock). She also told me the price was 19.99... which is what it was marked.
Now I know you cant always trust them, but I watched her look it up and she did tell me who had it correctly. I see no reason to lie on the price.

Secondyl since I dont remember this being mentioned.

I cannot tell you how many times I have bought a game from the used section with no manual or cover art... to walk to the rental section and find two manuals and two cover arts stuck in the rental package. Two cover arts on the outside.

So today when I got that mercenaris 2 PS3. I checked the rental and sure enough another cover art (no second manual). I asked the guy at the counter, he checked the system and said they had only one other rental so i could take the extra cover art.

I have done this in the pat on Wii games and even bought PS3 games used to go home and find two manuals or cover arts. FYI to those people buying these games to play, check the rental section for your cover art and manuals.!!
Heavenly sword and uncharted are $19.99
PS3 mirrors edge is $14.99.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is also $19.99
What a bummer!!

There were no signs at my Block Buster I had to have the guy look it up lastnight, he said it was supposed to start this Friday. When he scanned my stuff the discount was applied and I proceeded to ransack the game area after that. Even the kid working there was grabbing stuff.
Are you guys seeing signage in stores? Thanks
I only saw 1 sign out of 3 stores, although I went on Tuesday so it was early. The one sign read Sept.1-8, which conflicts with the date given earlier in the thread. Maybe the sign is just a marketing ploy to make people feel rushed into buying the games NOW. I know the last B1G1 went on past the advertised date.

I wasn't able to find anything worth getting for the PS3. Good luck to everyone else!

No sign @ my favorite BBV, but the manager lady (who I've seen many times b4) was sure to tell me about the sale verbally. Of course I thanked her for the info.

I always smirk a little inside when a worker tells me about a sale that I likely know more about than they do thanks to CAG. But like I said, most times I just thank them for the heads-up.

Hit up 8 eight blockbusters today. Thanks for the heads up on the deal. Belated thanks on the heads up for the last time around.

Picked up:
GTA4 15
Bioshock 15
Bolt 15
Simpsons 15
Madden 07 5
MLB 2k7 5
Two other games for 7.
Probably gonna return Madden and MLB for their 08 versions at 7.

Thanks to everyone contributing information on this newest B1G1.I had the BBV manager at a nearby store tell me "you sure are lucky, it seems you only happ to drop by whenever we are running a video game sale." I smiled, and agreed at how "lucky" I am.

I sort of got the opposite response, she told me that she thought I came in every week. Or every 3 months, you know nice guess though. I told her "something like that" because she may as well think I am a regular customer.

Picked up Bioshock, Mirror's Edge, Frontline Fuels of War, and Dark Sector all for 360. Unfortunately, both Bioshock and Mirror's Edge were purchased from two different stores. Fortunately, I had $15 store credit that I had for a while, so all four games were $15 out of pocket.

Went to a 3rd store today and grabbed Iron Man & The Bourne Conspiracy for the 360 for $9.99.

I asked to checked to see if any stores in the area had used copies of GTAIV and apparently all stores within 10 miles are sold out. Figures the one time I want the game, it's a pain to find the game for the deal.

Also, wanted to point out so that they could be added to the OP. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 & Crackdown are $6.99.
I went to 6 Blockbuster's near my home and work, and I found nothing. I was mainly looking for Resistance: fall of man and Devil May Cry 4 (either system). I still have like, two more to check out. I will do that today!
Keep in mind that games like DMC 4 have been through multiple B1G1 sales. It was a hot ticket item TWO sales ago when it first hit $14.99. I think it was $9.99 at the end of the last one. So they are pretty much cleared out unless they got more rental covnversions or actual trade-ins. And keep in mind with it being just $9.99 anyway it is not a bad purchase straight up. So there are lots of YMMV in finding that one at this point ;). I haven't seen one in ages myself.
Ratchet Clank Ps3 and Final Fantasy Echoes in Time Wii... decent for both at $14.99?
R&C definitely yes. As for the FF game, it seems it is much better on the DS and the Wii version is a clumsy port of that. However, as I noted earlier, it trades for $16.67 at Gamecrazy (before MVP). I'd say do that and try to find a couple of DS carts to play multiplayer (me and my son have been playing it in fact). I actually could use the Wii version for my other son but the reviews really turned me off of doing that so I just traded it in to GC.

Every time you say something like this, birthdays and christmas pop into my head.

"Oh, another video game, thanks dad." :)

It's come to the point with my kids that giving them video games for birthday/Christmas is like when I got clothes for presents as a kid. They just roll their eyes and ask where the real presents are.

I wonder if they'll come to appreciate the games more later then. I like getting clothes now =) (well...when I go shopping with that person to buy everything myself but they pay).

So, is anyone buying this stuff to flip, or is this all just stuff for your personal collections? And why are Bolt, and that Onebarach189$&*!?:) game so popular? Doesn't Blockbuster know they're only supposed to run this sale when GS is doing their 40% extra trade-in deal? Bah.
Seems as if its barely worth trading into GS or Amazon with the lack of promos. Even the former heavy hitter GTA IV has taken a dive down to $10 at GS, so if you're lucky enough to find two of them for $15 (or $16 after tax) you'd only get $22 at GS. I think trying to build up any credit from this sale is going to be a lot of effort for very little.
Didn't someone say they were going to try and get a PS3 from flipping in this sale? I don't know, with the $7 profit you might make trading a couple of games into GS (assuming no refurb fees from scratchy ex-rentals) and the $5 you might make flipping back to BB, I question whether its just easier to save on gas, time, and sanity, and just sit home and buy the PS3 off Amazon.

Personally, I still have a couple of games from the last B1G1 that I haven't gotten round to playing yet. I'll do the rounds this weekend, and if I find two games worth getting I'll consider that a success!

A few nice Amazon flips (despite no promo):

Folklore (PS3) 5 -> 11
Sonic Unleashed (Wii) 7.50 -> 11.25
Pokemon Explorers of Time (DS) 7.50 -> 10.25
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS) 7.50 -> 10
Battlefield: BC (360) 7.50 -> 10
Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber Duel (Wii) 7.50 -> 9.25
We Ski (Wii) 5 -> 7.25

Spiderman: WoS (PS3) fetches 9.50 on amazon, so that may be another viable one.

Also, Cranium held at $16 and Race Pro (360) traded in for $15.

:ps2:
Shadow Hearts From the New World - $6.99
:psp:
LocoRoco 2 - $9.99
Patapon - $6.99
:360:
Mass Effect - $14.99

Guides:
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed x 2
Super Smash Bros. Brawl x 3
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
So, is anyone buying this stuff to flip, or is this all just stuff for your personal collections?
As usual with these BBV sales, a little of both for me. Though, as you say, the lack of a promo (at either GS or Amazon at this point) is making it a little tougher on the flipping side. Gamecrazy seems to be giving a little better value than either of those, though, so I'll be dropping a few off there (have already done FF Echoes of Time). Thanks to their iPhone app I was able to check a few prices while at BBV and picked up a few things I might have otherwise skipped.

I also found two things for myself, including my #1 target: Pikmin for the Wii. I already own both GC Pikmins so I couldn't see dropping anything near $30 on this. $7.50 in BBV credit is just about right for it. The other one I am keeping is the Star Wars Clone Wars Jedi Alliance game for the DS which I hadn't even considered getting before, but yet another iPhone app (the IGN game review one) let me know that they gave it an 8.0 so it seemed worth getting to keep because of that.

Some of the stuff I got for GC could go either way (either trade or keep - not sure). There are other things I'd like to find but I just don't have a lot of time and being out of BBV credit that makes it all the less appealing to go looking. There are no Cranium Kabookis around for me to trade back to BBV. I'm sure there are other things that get decent enough value there but it is a lot of work to figure that all out. I do have one more Saints Row 2 from the HWV sale that gets $10 at BBV so if I see another pair of $9.99 games to get I could trade that in.

Stopped by Blockbuster Video in Gardena, CA to rent the Mike Tyson Documentary and saw the bin with games in it. Picked up a few things.

-Burnout Paradise (PS3) -14.99
-Quake Wars: Enemy Territory (PS3) - 14.99
-Quantum of Solace (PS3) - FREE
-Fracture (PS3) - FREE

Picked up some DVD's as well
-Fast & Furious
-Gran Torino
-The Wrestler

3 for $20

That, combined with a serious lack of any new $15 or less titles on the shelves. Remember when it was discovered that GTA4 was $15 during, jeez, that was two sales ago now. What an amazing price that was at the time. We need a new equivalent of that, either for flipping or keeping or both. It just seems to be the same old games that sat on the shelves last time round. Come on BB, toss us something like Fallout 3 or MGS4!
