Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
i was wondering, i have 5 copies of a certain game worth $15 TiV at GC

game crazys are way far from where i live, will they give me shit for trading 5 of the same game in one shot?
Why so secretive on the game name (Wheelman), it depends on you're relationship with the GC in question. I have no problems trading in 3 at a time to my GC, but they know me. They are certainly not as anal as GS about multiple copies of a game however.
So I saw the 80gb console bundle, with Transformers: The Game, Click Blu-ray, PS3 remote, HMDI cable, and a 12-week rental card, for $369.99 (previously $499.99). Is this the older 80gb with partial BC or is it the newer one? And can you tell by the box? Would be nice to get a brand new PS3 with BC.
That bundle should be 100% newer 80gig models, no b/c. Mine in store do not have b/c and we've been carrying that bundle for a long time now. This was actually how I learned they started making 80gigs without it.

Wheelman is not worth $15 at GC (Wheelman for both systems is $12 before MVP). It is worth $15 at BBV though.

I went yesterday in attempts to pickup a couple games or 4 and the employee told me they sold out of their inventory like last week. Pretty lame.

I know, I just forgot to mention the pricematch to BBV (which should also net you an additional 5%), which is typically the only way I trade to GC.

Gotcha, but I was just wondering why you assumed it was Wheelman. He could have been talking about Onechanbara for the Wii ;).

i wasnt really trying to hide it, just didnt think it was relevant and already kinda feel guilty but oh well screw it lol

yeah you're right io its onechanbara for wii

just called gc and yeah i will get $20 per copy TiV because of the $5 extra promotion they are having

dam gotta join MVP tho first, but guess its still worth it

tried to sell a couple on ebay but can't even pull in $15 cash per copy after fees and whatnot, so they are not as hot as everyone says

Just note that you won't get $20 because as usual the MVP doesn't stack with the $5 promo. So you'll get the pre-MVP price + $5. Then it is YMMV since the pre-MVP price isn't the $15 needed to qualify for the bonus. I have been trading it with another game to be safe (GH On Tour Decades is a good choice as it seems fairly common at BBV). So yeah, basically I'm not sure how individual copies will trade.

Plus, you had asked about trading them all at once. If you do that you will only get one $5 bonus. If they do them in separate transactions you might be able to get $5 per copy extra though.

I traded a second copy in to one GC yesterday and just my luck I ended up with the same clerk who had asked me about the game last time. He said "wait, you have another one of these!?". He didn't seem to care too much, but was just surprised since as far as I know he doesn't realize I just trade stuff from other stores. I pretty much had to tell him I just got it cheap somewhere (though I didn't say where).

And I don't think anyone ever claimed these games were "hot" in any sense. I think some people wanted to try out the 360 version just because it is a relatively new game that can be found for so cheap at BBV. I hear it's a bad game, though, and the Wii version is presumably even worse than the 360 one ;). The only reason to get it IMO is to trade to GC. It is somewhat embarassing to trade-in though especially as every GC clerk feels the need to comment on it .

I had an interesting BBV run today. Yesterday, I checked out a BBV that had a copy of Cranium Kabookii, but I didn't pick it up because it didn't have the decoder glasses. Someone assured me that it could still be traded in without the glasses, so I went back today to get the game. It was still there, so I got it along with Samba de Amigo.

I checked out another BBV before heading back to work in the hopes of finding another copy of Cranium to buy. Instead, I came across Pikmin (new play control), and I couldn't resist buying it despite the fact that I didn't have any intention of using my BBV credit since there are currently no trade promos at GS or Amazon. I ended up pairing Pikmin with Lego Batman, but I almost wasn't able to make the purchase because the CSR I dealt with thought the B1G1 sale was only on during the long weekend. He called his manager, and his manager confirmed that the sale was done.

I wasn't going to argue with them, so I left the store even though I knew the sale was good through the 14th. Fortunately, the CSR grabbed me before I got to my car and said that his manager opened up his email to find that the sale did go through the 14th. I was then able to get Pikmin and Lego Batman for $15 and change. I also found out that this BBV does take trade-ins, which is interesting because I was told during the last B1G1 sale that this store stopped taking trades. I guess it balances out the other BBV I went to yesterday that used to take trades but doesn't anymore.

At any rate, I'm only sitting on $7+ in BBV credit now after starting off with $32, but I'll go back tomorrow and trade in the copy of Cranium that I got today. Hopefully, I can pick up another used copy that's supposedly at a mall that I'm going to be visiting this weekend. Dang BBV credit is so hard to come by these days...

 Judging by the date of the start of the new non-BC 80gb (August 2008), and the date of the Transformers Game (June 26 2007) & Click movie (2006 theatrical) there's gotta be a chance!

don't have great selection here, but whatever, my new ps3 needs some games.

Scored a bunch of penny guides today. SSBB, MGS4, Madden09, SW:TFU...a total of 11 cents for 10 guides.

Not much luck on games. Only looking for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on the DS which I haven't found yet and probably won't likely find.

Dude, I can't stop finding Fire Emblem. On my way home from school, I'm picking up at least 2 more, leaving me with a total of 5. Haven't had much luck with PS3 games, though. Found a few copies of Ratchet & Folklore at the first few BBV's I hit up, but not a once since then.

Picked up :360: Enchanted Arms and :360: Viva Pinata for $6.99 plus tax. Not a bad deal, but the selection at my store has really gone to crap in the past few months. I'll have to check out a few more stores before the sale is over.

Those two are better than any PS3 games I found (save one copy of Dirt) so don't call that "not much luck". And yeah, FE is MIA around here. I think it depends really on what they originally ordered for rental and how they dealt with those subsequently. I'm guessing they either never had it for rent here or only got 1 copy per store (and those of you finding it everywhere they must have had 2 copies and converted one over at every location). I'll have to look to see if they have any for rent. It's also possible they do have 2 around here and just never converted one of them.

For example, just about every single BBV around here had 1 Wii Onechanbara and 1 360 Onechanbara for sale when the B1G1 started. I'm not sure if they still rent the game but I'm guessing they had 2 of each and just recently converted one for sale.

io, we got one of each onechanbara at my store. One was converted, wii, the other, 360, I had bought cause I lost....

I rented it, and I think I put it on my car when I went home that day because after like a week of searching (and 2 months later), I still haven't found it. But it probably would've been changed to a purchase =P atleast I got a copy off goozex so I can finally play it..

:bomb:

Anyhow, I think I'm working out a deal with another CAG to get one. We're in negotiations....:) Hopefully it works out.

Happy hunting everyone.

Damn. They legit had like 10 games which were only 20% off. I'm glad they went out of buisness so I don't have to keep driving out every time a good sale pops up only to find shitty stock.

Do they trade-in penny guides as well at GC/GS or those are just for friends :)

I'll keep some of them and trade the others. Friends, enemies, CAGs, whomever.....

Oh, and as far as trade ins, I don't know of any store who takes guides.
Gotcha, but I was just wondering why you assumed it was Wheelman. He could have been talking about Onechanbara for the Wii ;).
I guess I felt he was keeping secrets, but apparently not. Good news is I have both of those to trade tomorrow + a spare camera, so I'm definitely benefiting from the sharing of info.

I saw a "CRANIUM Bukkakke" being traded in today when I was in line behind that guy (possible CAG lol) and getting late to work.........so didnt bother asking if i could buy it (lol just to later sell it haha!!)
anyways so i got following games for 9.99,

DS Fire emblem
Wii Onechanbara

Will trade them at gamecrazy tomorrow for the game i want.

Thanks IO with the TIV help!

I stopped at two more Blockbuster stores tonight that I hadn't hit prior and both had copies of that Onechanbara bikini zombie game(one had a copy for 360, the other had one for Wii). I was tempted to pick up the one for the Wii for my one friend whose nieces have the Wii and a second game for myself, but they only had the Hannah Montana movie game and Bolt for PS3, so I passed.

It seems like this sale is a bust after the first couple of days, since every store is picked over already.

I picked up the copies of Fire Emblem and Star Ocean I had seen earlier in the week. I could have paired Star Ocean up with a case-only Mirror's Edge and FE with Fracture, but I decided to save the $10. I found a BBV with FFXII: Revenant Wings & FE, but was told the sale had ended on Tuesday. I'll pick 'em up tomorrow.

I think that may have been for the best. Not sure how old your friend's nieces are, but that's not the first game I'd pick as a gift. :D

Well I wasn't able to buy two $19.99 games and get the 14.99 ones for free; the employee said this was impossible. This fucking terrible Blockbuster wouldn't even let me exchange my game for another one. I told them the game skipped and didn't work correctly on my Wii and wanted to exchange it for something else, and they told me I had to pay the difference. I asked them why I couldn't just "return" both games right there and rebuy my Pikmin and Boom Blox and they said they wouldn't let me do it, it was against store policy.

Even after I explicitly stated if I had just chosen the Boom Blox game yesterday, I wouldn't have had to pay any difference, they still wouldn't let me do it.

I ended up going to the Blockbuster with kickass employees that I know. Unfortunately they have a shitty selection of games, but the manager was able to return the one and let me exchange it for another, and he said buying the 2 19.99 games would be no problem, that Blockbuster is just fucking terrible.

So now I have a copy of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time I'd be willing to trade for Boom Blox if anyone can snag a copy.

On a completely different note, G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra on 360 gets $20 trade-in value at Blockbuster.
my bbv said this sale ended tuesday as well? I thought this ran til the 13th or something?
When did you start believing the employees? It should ring up automatically if the sale is still going on. Hell, I went to a store that didn't even know about the sale, the games still rung up correctly.

So I figured I'd stop at a couple of bbv's while out doing stuff the other day. The last B1G1 left most stores pretty cleaned out but hey, who knows what inventory got shipped in from other stores right? First store has nothing, second store has Bully and Turning Point. Both games I've wanted to pick up. Go to the counter, they can't find Turning Point, they don't even have it in their system as being in stock. There are no other games I want so I leave empty handed.

Next blockbuster has what looks like too good of a find. A copy of F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. Files at ten bucks each. Never owned either so I grab both and walk up to the front. Just like I had expected, the fear game turns out to be Fear Files that some retard in a blue polo put the wrong cover art into the package for some reason. Again I leave empty handed.

fuck.

I'm in the same boat. I found a couple of decent games for 9.99 and the employee told me that the sale ended. I told her to just ring them up and see what happens. She gave me attitude and said that she would have a hard time to do that at the register if I did'nt want the games. I left pissed of and now I'm going to go back tomorrow and tell her to do it.

I can't believe the number of people taking the employees word for when this sale ends. Just have them ring it up and it will work. As long as they are a corporate store this will go through. This is pretty standard BBV B1G1 stuff.

Well I wish I looked at FE being $9.99 because I saw two copies...but passed on them.

Took advantage of this though and got:

:360: Bikini Samurai Whatever (never been played go figure)
:wii: Pikmin (complete perfect)

:wii: Dead Rising (Mis-tagged)
:wii: Spiderman Web of Shadows

:wii: Spyro
:wii: MLB Power Pros 2008

Kept Pikmin and Onechabarba (for laughs) traded in the rest for Raiden IV and $30 or so credit towards ACII and MUA2 (Will move it all to MUA2)

Now I gotta go back and get FE and a few others...DAMN
dang why is there no gamerush in illinois
i still have 20 blockbuster giftcard to use
Every corporate BBV is running this sale, not just the ones with GRs.

Went to another 3 BBVs today, did ok with marked prices in parenthesis.

FF:EoT Wii x2 (14.99)
Secret Agent Clank PSP (9.99)
SW:TFU PSP (9.99)

Saw more Madden09 guides but passed on them.

Seriously... I haven't been to a Gamerush in over 2 years. If these deals were only at GR stores I would have given up this thread long ago since the closest GR is now 600 miles from me.

In fact, there seems to be very little difference between regular BBVs and GR stores except maybe the GR stores have a slightly better selection nowadays. They used to have specific deals that regular stores didn't (like $20 off preorders when trading 2 games, and the extra $5 trade-in promo) but those are long past.

Very nice.

I picked up Fracture and Folklore (PS3) for $10 at the Bellaire (houston) BBV.

I did see a bully, scholarship edition (360), and a hell of a lot of Wall-E's and 007's (360 and ps3)

they had a ton of 360 Guitar hero standalone games also.

Nothing worth a darn in the whole Birmingham, AL area (checked 280, Overton Rd., and Crestwood/Irondale). The only set I would consider would be from the store on 280 - Armored Core 4 (PS3) 9.99 + Bikini Squad Samurai (360) 14.99.

So every store should have it, no matter if they have it advertised?

There were a few games that they had (Mirror's Edge, Blue Dragon) that interested me, but didn't know that they were running the sale.

I had a similar experience, but insisted the clerk call another store. The other store confirmed the sale was still going, and he rang my games up to see that yes, it was still going. He told me the store had received an email saying the sale was over on Labor Day.

I passed on Sonic Adventures for DS at 14.99. I haven't seen that one in the past.
TIV from today

PS3 GTAIV $3
NDS Zelda PH $2
WII ONECHANBARA $4
PS3 BIOSHOCK $6

So bad they make me cry !!
I'm not defending BBV's TIVs but they sell them for $7.50 ( with the b2g1) so how much did you expect them to give you?

Why did you bother to comment :bomb:

Honestly I just don't understand why ppl have to rain on other ppl's parades for no apparent reason.

My comment is based on my historical trading, where BBV helped me build vast credit reserves, beyond that I was just sharing what I found out today, in preparation for my trip to GameCrazy.
You're complaining about tivs to blockbuster on their clearance games?...? I'm not sure.
No, not really.

I'm complaining about their TIV's in relationship to GS and GC, Zelda PH for instance get 6.75 at GS and apparently 14 at GC. I was just sharing information, nothing more nothing less.

I get that you're lamenting that these are the new low TIVs compared to the old days where they would still probably be around ten despite the fact they cost 7.50 in the B1G1, but it comes across a little differently like you're complaining that they should be higher.
