What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Really? I just asked about a trade-in price earlier and they didn't mention anything. If I go and trade something in tonight, will the credit still be good next week?
this was just passed on to me by one of my managers so i havent read any details but there was a communication update apparently stating this. this info just came thru so some, most dont know about it yet.

yes any credit you have will still be good.

Okay, I guess I'll run up there now and trade in Black Ops. I was able to get a copy off Craiglist for $9 and Blockbuster gives $40 in credit. I can turn $9 into 10 blu-rays. I've actually never traded in anything to BBV, so it's funny that I'll be doing it on the last night possible. I'm so glad I checked this thread tonight. Thanks a lot, hawaiiboy!

$40 for black ops. wow thats news to me as the only game i remember over $25 was super mario galaxy 2 when that first came out.

I guess I should have known it was too good to be true. The guy must be new. He must have looked it up and saw the price they're selling it for and told me that was the TIV. I just went up there to trade it in and it only gives $17 in credit. Oh well, I'll still be there on Tuesday to get some blu-rays. Maybe I'll get a bite on Craigslist before then.

Hawaiiboy (and others). I might have missed an update but I remember you posting that you usually only get word about promos a week ahead of time. As a result you had not been officially notified of a B1G1 when iO reported it. (at least I think it was iO). Have you since confirmed that it's happening?

i personally have not seen any info on this but someone else along with IO had info on this so i'm assuming that its happening but i have been searching for some hard proof but have yet to find any. someone reported seeing a packet of info about the memorial day sale but i never got it.

If indeed the sale is happening it's perfect timing for me. My Wife loves Yankee Candle and they're having a big sale at the end of this month too...so as a result I'd be able to get away with buying a good amount for playing/flipping if the B1G1 happens.

Plus I want to rebuy Bioshock 2 for the MD DLC since that's on sale again and last time I checked they still had a copy or two left.

also if anyone cares they are getting rid of the blockbuster "blue box". the contract with the 3rd party (ncr) was rejected effective 5/26.
You're talking about the Blockbuster Express kiosks? Wow.
effective 5/13 no trades accepted as bbv is doing away with the trade in program and all passes (movie and game). i'll have additional details(if there are any) tomorrow.

also if anyone cares they are getting rid of the blockbuster "blue box". the contract with the 3rd party (ncr) was rejected effective 5/26.
Wow. Sounds like BBV is getting royally fucked. Sorry to hear... I was hoping the "blue box" would be able to rival redbox with certain release date contracts or something, giving people a different option.

The end of an era, no more BBV trade-ins.

But at least it sounds like this blu-ray sale will kick ass. I suppose it makes sense, there were a ton of blu's that did sell at the going-out-of-business stores, because they never reached a decent discount. So those probably got transferred to remaining stores, and now they are overstocked. That's my theory, anyway.

Things keep looking worse and worse for BBV. No passes? No blue box? So the only regular BBV customers left will be people willing to drive to blockbuster, pay $4.99 for a movie rental or $7.99 for a game rental, and drive it back a few days later (or pay late fees of $2.00 a day)? That sounds like a very very good business model to stick with. Why offer anything else like passes?

Sorry for the run on sentences and sorry if the prices I quoted are incorrect. I don't rent at Blockbuster so I don't know the exact prices. Like many people today, I have a premium cable package that offers somewhere around 600 high def movies a month that instantly stream to my tv. I don't know about late fees or driving movies back to meet their due date because this isn't the 1980's or 1990's. I guess there are also netflix customers who pay as little as $8 a month for over 10,000 older streaming titles.

Besides being a CAG who loves B1G1s, I thought the main draw of BBV was the movie passes, game passes, and blue box. Hopefully BBV makes most of their revenue from regular rentals and pre-viewed sales. I'm sure BBV knows what they're doing because they've made so many good business choices in the past.

If you've made it reading all the way to the end of this childish rant, get ready for the real kicker. I know someone who just recently (in the past couple months) bought $10,000 worth of BBV stock and his wife also bought another $10,000 worth of BBV stock.:headache::headache::headache: :headache::headache::headache: :headache::headache::headache: :headache::headache::headache: I swear to God I'm not kidding. I was shocked when I found out because these people I know are usually extremely careful with money. Apparently they got some kind of crazy "tip" that blockbuster stock was about to skyrocket up in price. I wish to God they would have consulted with me first before they threw away $20,000. They could have given me $500 to take to a casino or dog track and it would have been a better investment.

In case you missed it, it's no longer Blockbuster in charge of Blockbuster. Dish Network owns them now.

No BBV trade-ins? Yeah, definitely the end of an era. Though to be honest, I have only traded a handful of games there over the last 1-2 years. Ever since they nuked the great trade-in values it hasn't been worth the trouble for the most part. I spent almost entirely real money at the last 2 B1G1 sales anyway so this is no huge blow to me now. But, still, it seems kind of sad when I think back on the good ol' days of 2005-2006 or so ;). I mean, remember when they not only had great trade-in values but also trade-in promos!? Wow...

I don't know how anyone would be surprised by all of this. Dish Network did say that they were only keeping around 600 stores and that they wanted to brand them under the Dish name. BBV will become the brand name for a streaming service. Maybe they'll have mail order's too. And as far as the "blue boxes", that shouldn't be a surprise either. I read month's ago that it really was a bad deal for BBV. It makes sense that Dish would want to get rid of that contract. Who knows, maybe Dish will set up their own rental boxes?

Yes, it truly is an end of an era. Less competition in both movies and games is bad news for consumers. Less jobs is always bad news for the economy.

bought $10,000 worth of BBV stock and his wife also bought another $10,000 worth of BBV stock
I'm not sure this is even remotely true but... A friend of mine told me that there was talk of Apple buying out BBV to try to get some of the exclusivity rights they had on some movies, guess there was some plan on a streaming service. If that had happened I believe they would be pretty happy about their purchase right now. right?

I know everyone in here has already gone down memory road a while ago, but it's crazy to think about the shit we used to get away with at BBV. A couple hours on a single saturday driving back and forth between gamestops and blockbusters would take care of my gaming budget for months at a time.

So it looks like stores are still taking trades for the immediate future but it could change after dish gets everthing settled in stores. Sorry for bad info as I should have confirmed it myself first.

Also, the previewed DVD and blu ray sale starts on mon 5/16. There will be no advertising for this during the first 3 days as it's supposed to be just for select email customers but the sale will ring up automatically and you don't need any special email to take advantage of the sale. Stores have flyers advertising it starting 5/20.

About 90% of the blu rays are $9.99 or less as there was a big price change this week.

Splice - for the love of all things holy please do not buy splice. That is a terrible, terrible movie. Don't let them give it to you for free.

I plan on checking out my store later tonight but I was curious if Hawaiiboy or anyone else knew if Blockbuster sells (used) 3d blu rays like the Imax: Under the Sea?

We don't have any 3-d movies. We carry under the sea but it's not 3-d

Some of the used Blu-rays that IIRC never went below $10 during this year's BB flameout
:

Of the titles you listed some have gone to $9.99

Scott pilgrim
Crazies
Longest day
Shutter island
The road

Does that mean movie and game passes might live on for the near future as well?

Yep movie and game passes still available.

The flyer I have says 5/17.

I doubled checked that and the email says mon 5/16. I thought it was odd too since promos usually start on a tues.

Unless a store made up their own flyers the ones we received from corporate and have been handing out says the sale starts 5/20.

edit: wait..............this starts Monday? damn..have work monday....might be able to go before.

What is Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow worth since it's OOP? I ask because I just saw that at the one thrift store last week, but since I don't play Blu-Rays on my PS3 I didn't bother to pick it up for $5.

You can get it for $10.49 from Amazon.

Just for s&g's, I went to my local Blockbuster where I have a pass to get some new movies this week and last week and was told they aren't getting any/some new movies until negotiations are done since they have been bought out by Dishnetwork. Also the manager told me they are not scheduled to get any new games period until sometime mid June. I don't know if this is just my neck of the woods but it sucks, instead of renting L.A. Noire I had to buy it.

its like this for all bbv's now. they have come to an agreement with sony, universal and summit so movies will start coming in next week.

Are there ever Blockbusters that have original blu-ray cases? If not, then does anyone have a solution for assholes like me who can't stand seeing a game or movie in a Blockbuster case?

You might find them cheaper elsewhere online, but I bought a ten-pack of these at my local Microcenter, and they are perfect. Just under a buck a case, though.

Edit: Here's a bit more of a selection: http://www.microcenter.com/search/s...=4294961466+4294952987&sht=Any&prt=NewProduct

Here's where I bought mine after the last BBV sale: https://www.discmakers.com/shop/ParentGroups/BLURAYCASES.asp

I bought the Viva Elite cases and they're great. It'll cost you $15 shipped for 25 single cases or $16 for 25 double cases. I chose the double since it's only a dollar more and I have the extra spot to put the dvd copy if it's an upgrade. I might have to order some more if I end up going crazy during this sale.

My Friend im just like you and i have a solution to your problem,i did this when i got final fantasy 13. first get the movie or game that you want that doesnt have the case. Then you go to the rental isle that has the empty case for the movie or game that you want. Then you take the used stickers of the generic case ( they come off so easly ) and put them on the acual case that you want. Then you place the generic case on the rental rack.the used cases are the same as the rental case so they will never know. just do it out of sight of the employes just in case.

Oh and guys i went to blockbuster today and saw the vanilla version of forced unleashed 2 for 19.99 and alot of them too. im about to play the first one. is Part 2 as bad as people say ?

I just want them to be able to use gift cards again. I bought some books at a moving sale and found 140 bucks in unscratched BB gift cards. Brought them to one to verify they all were legit and unused, but they can't use them till a sale is done for the company.

I was about to blow up their used Xbox 360 section. Hopefully soon.

Im gonna blow up their game and movie section círcut city style when the enevidible liquidation starts. Im pridicting november of this year blockbutsers movie negotiations will fall apart and that would basicly finish them off.this is what they get for trying to Live off late fees for years and Not adapting to the times. Plus their rental prices suck, 15 dollars for a 2 to 3 day game rental ? F**k that im a cag ! i pay 15 or less for Most of my games Not to rent them !
