Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

This sucks I got class from 10:30 to 11:20 tomorrow. Hopefully no ones goes to the blockbuster by me, the last BOGO it was empty when I got there so there's hope.
as expected the deals start tomorrow. we got notice to take down all the old signage when we close tonight but they havent sent us any new signage to reflect the new deals that are starting.

still dont know if its an auto barcode or not. i'll be able to report first thing tomorrow morning whether it is or isnt as i'm gonna buy a few things for myself.
I see them having barcode sheet on the table.
Oh and I saw them having gift cards already, guy said it should work as well. Awesome news.

looks like i'll be getting up early tomorrow to head down to my semi-local bbv. hopefully they have a good selection--should have gone today to check. otherwise, i've got a few others in the state i can poke around at. *fingerscrossed*
I've got way too much BBY credit so I'm just going to trade in my last brink and use that credit for da2, AC:b and 1 other game.
too much? u can never have too much! haha

I didnt want to use this tactic, but since a lot of others have been posting here saying they are getting games put on hold then I have to do that too to compete.

Put a bulletstorm (12+) dead space 2 (5+) and ass creed bro (4+) on reserve Fable III (4+). Numbers in () represent remaining copies in store. Also had the only copy of FF XIII on hold. Unsure if I can find 5 games I want, really I just want those first three and FF XIII.

Hope you guys have some luck. I'm not going to bother. Took a quick look around the store today, and except for maybe Dead Space 2, I saw nothing but fodder all around. That included a scratched/unreadable copy of Slaughterhouse that I returned during the last sale.

I can't believe I never paid attention to this thread before. I didn't realize they had such good deals! And I personally know a local bbv manager so I would be stupid not to have her hold some stuff for me!

Well at least I picked a good sale to jump in on. Unreal deals this week. Between gameflys 10$ games and this, who needs black friday? My backlog just exploded!

Guys what is this sale about? I am late to the party but there is a blockbuster by my house and if this sale is actually good. Don't want to miss it?

Buy 3 for $20 or 5 for $30 for used games less than 14.99. Its actually better than a B1G1 if you get 14.99 games, but this sale is just as good as any B1G1 especially with some great price drops.

Bulletstorm question, I have seen online pass cards inside some boxes. Is this needed to access online or is it extra content? What are the chances these codes wont be used already?
Bulletstorm question, I have seen online pass cards inside some boxes. Is this needed to access online or is it extra content? What are the chances these codes wont be used already?
Chances are slim to none that there is a code and it's not used. Good thing is that all the online pass card does is give you a few extra single and multiplayer maps. You can play online without it. Online is fun but pretty limited.
To each his own. I can see why some might not like it bc the story is so much narrower in scope being centered on a single city and the story doesn't have the same impact as a blight invasion.

But I still enjoyed it quite a bit
Yeah, I didn't mean to rag on your choice of games, man, I know everyone's taste are different. I'm actually a little bitter BECAUSE I wanted this game to be as good as the first one. I was just so let down because I felt it went in such a generic turn. I'm sure if I'd kept playing I would've found something to like about the combat, but I think I was able to swing it for a profit at the time so I just gave up on it.

My Blockbuster said this starts on the 19th, but I am still going in tomorrow because I think the dude at the counter is going to try and hoard the games before the public.

Or you can take the time to answer the poor guy.

Basically it's a sale at BBV. You can get 3 $14.99 games for $20. Or 5 $14.99 games for $30.
Applies to any game at or under $14.99

Also, next time, please actually read through the thread before asking questions like that.

DVDs and Blu-rays are also included. You can mix and match.

Yep, go tomorrow, just called my local BBV, they said a Friday start.
So 3 for 20 or 5 for 30, huh? Is there a list of all the game drops since the bogo before last?
Hmmm I wonder where such a list could be found....

I went to my local BBV tonight to see what they have in stock and there were no games under $15 on the shelves. Plenty of more expensive games were on the shelves but nothing under 19.99. I can't tell if they pulled them in anticipation of this event or if they have none left. I did notice that they were setting up tables and tables of movies that I imagine are going to be for the sale.

Crap, of course - I get my first full day of work in months tomorrow and this sale starts :bomb:. I was really kind of hoping for Saturday. Oh well, I can at least run out to my local store at 10am - just won't be able to make the 60 mile circuit to hit the other stores. My store doesn't have some of the stuff I'm looking for.

I finally found a BBV with a few games I'd like, but the prices are different than what everyone else is reporting. I saw AC:B, DS2, and Spiderman, but they all have prices of $19.99. I checked the op, didn't see anything about universal prices. Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

I guess I can check all the near by Blockbusters since I'm not doing anything tomorrow.
Ugh I have class till 4 ish tomorrow. Cheap asses in the Los Angeles area, LEAVE ME SOME GAMES!
No...

Mine had similar pricing errors. They will ring up at 14.99

Have to ask did you attempt to hve any of them scanned? It seems this might be the one time all stores are on the same page. I know a few i checked havent replaced stickers but system pricing is up to date. I cant wait until tomorrow.

Mine had a similar pricing error last time during a sale. 20$ games on the shelves that should have been 15 but upon scanning they came up the right price (much to the confusion of the employee). Don't you hate when you're more informed than the actual employees of the store?

I'm hoping nobody destroys the one I go to until I'm there. Won't be until after classes end at 2 unfortunately  but maybe I'll get lucky. If there's nothing there, I'll have to drive another half hour to a farther away store but that one seems to be franchised I don't know if I'll get the same deals.

Nope, didn't have time. Everyone here says all is well, hope so. Happy hunting!

I have a school assignment tomorrow until 10:30-ish, hopefully the manager at BBV near me was able to keep my games on lockdown for me (since we thought saturday, kind of hope it is) but I'll be near to a BBV in the city were I'd be able to hit up and grab some good games as its in a lower income area so they wait until a good sale, but since it's a school day, I think it'll work in my favor =D

I should've stopped by my closest BBV to check out what games they have available. I made a list of what to look out for, just hope I get lucky. Happy hunting everyone.

I went to 3 of my bbvs tonight (Thursday) and none of then knew about the sale. They said to call tomorrow. What in the mother fuck cluster fuck blockbuster fuck ?

It is killing me not knowing if this is auto or requires a bar code. I plan on being at my local store at 10 tomorrow (or do they open at 11?).

In any case, I added the sale to the OP, and will add it to the title tomorrow if we have 100% confirmation of it being on (like, actually ringing up properly). Of course I expect you East Coasters to report back ASAP and in particular let us know if it requires a bar code.

Has anyone posted this yet?

http://www.blockbuster.com/openhouse

This indicates it starts Saturday so even if it does start tomorrow, and especially if it requires a bar code, I expect lots of us to have trouble getting things purchased on Friday.

I was at the store today, they told me all the details and that it starts tomorrow, I dont think I will have a problem.
BTW through, kinda funny I was browsing and opened up an assassins creed brotherhood, and the disc was inside, brought it up to them and asked since I found it for them if they could put some games on hold, going to get: bulletstorm, dead space 2, final fantasy xiii, fable III, and assassins creed brotherhood. Only one im not completely happy with is fable III, but im sure even with lackluster reviews it will be worth $6.

This is what I'm hoping happens in my area. The car's gassed up, I've got my list(n checked that bitch twice like Santy Claus;)) and I'm ready to go all Viking on BBV today. ;)

So here's my dilemma, the two games I personally want (read: don't have and at all interested in playing) actually trade for a negative profit value. Than a third game I'm probably grabbing for my nephew (he's never played a Pokemon game and really wants to so I figure for $6 I'll grab him Pokemon Pearl, I mean why not?). Whatever else I grab will just be off the top of the profitability list I guess.

So (not to be annoying) this is definately starting tomorrow? Only reason I am triple checking is because on the BBV web site it specifically states the Open House event, listing THIS specific deal, is on the 19th and 20th.

http://www.blockbuster.com/openhouse

I'll be up and at the door at 10am anyways, just thought I'd clarify.

all trade in values held, so looks like this will be a good sale after all. =). Games already on hold and will be there at 10 to collect my share.
