Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
I always have mixed thoughts when I read posts like this. I completely understand that trading in games or flipping is a way to get the real games you want for cheap. On the other hand the gamer in me thinks that it isn't cool to pick up so many copies of one game ruining a fellow gamers chance at picking that game up cheap. I usually don't bother buying multiple copies for that reason unless the flip is pretty big.

Anyway just a few random thoughts.. but truly, a good job to you.
And then you realized that flippers don't take games out of the system, they just move them around, and then you were happy and content with life.
I hear ya. I actually left multiple copies of Enslaved at each store. Enslaved is like SWFUII. They both seem to multiply every time I go to BB. Ridiculous amounts.
i know how many did block buster get in ? because they get 3 or 4 of deues ex hr but get 100 copies of swfu 2 each store lol

Do you know if every BBV takes trade ins? I guess I can check next time I'm in one, but seems like I'll have to learn a bunch of new rules about trading in too... just for one copy of Brink.

How do they even pay you? I thought they were technically bankrupt and can't give out GC. Do they give cash?
yeah my wife told me i can get a game madden 12 ( i know sad but its being married )

so i used that 60 lets say game allowance lol and turned it in to over 230 for only 50 of it lol

have not been able to game as much since being married but i still get my game on a lot
I know. My gaming time didn't diminish too much after getting married, but it definitely took a hit after having kids. My son is turning 3, and he's really into playing video games, so most of my time playing on my consoles is spent playing co-op games with him.

brink can be got for 10 ( with gamers mag) at best buy and sold for 17 at block buster

Does anyone know if Bestbuy will take the games that have the marker writing on the disc because some Blockbusters use a black marker with a number on it to make a notation of something?
just so you guys know brink goes for 17 trade at blockbuster

traded in brink (i got for 10 from bestbuy) and picked up 2 star wars force 2 each for xbox and ps3 and flipped to best buy for 12 each plus 50% bonus and got 72

NOW THIS IS HOW MY FLIP WEEK WENT

traded in 92 ps2 games to best buy (thanks gamestop) for 168 dollars

traded in 4 star wars force 2 to best buy (thanks blockbuster) for 72

GREAT DEAL WEEK
Damn. Good job dude!

If you end up with a defective disc, does it have to be returned to the Blockbuster where it was originally purchased? I know I have 30 days, but I bought it yesterday at an out-of-the-way store and would like to exchange it at a closer location if possible.
And then you realized that flippers don't take games out of the system, they just move them around, and then you were happy and content with life.
But I also realize that they move it from being able to be purchased for $7.50 per game to $30 per game that BBY wants (took stfu2 in this case as an example).

So you may be "moving them around" but you are killing the deals for your own purpose.

the 90+ i traded in to bb were from ok cond to really bad about 10 or so had block buster stickers on them guess the people that traded those in to gamestop stole them or something

but if your trading in a lot of them i don't think they look because it takes along time to input they are not going to look at each and every disk

I have yet to see less than 5 copies of STFU2 for 360 at a BBV so far. (been to two so far)

I think it's the new FNV. (saw quite a few of those still too)

:applause: Now THAT is the way you get the games you want. I'm going out to hit up at least two of my local BBV stores in a bit to see what each of them has. I'm trying to get in touch with my one buddy who wants AC: B to see if he'll go in $10/$10 with me on a pair of games. Hopefully I can find a $14.99 or under game I truly want that I haven't already owned like 2-3 times.

yeah still never played star wars force 2 lol but i owned it a bunch of times lol

How much are Splatterhouse and Madden 11 supposed to be? They both ring up at $19.99 at my BBV. I could have sworn they were supposed to be cheaper though.

I was dropping 5 copies of STFUII on the BB that was doing the 3-man-gang-bang of the trade in on me and one of the 3 people was this fat bitch that would not let me trade in STFUII because she heard that target was selling it for cheaper than they were paying for it (This was a while ago).

I was scared she'd recognize me, since I'm 90% sure that I'm the only person that has ever attempted to trade in at that BB. I'm not sure what she would have done? Maybe just remembered that and decided to block the trade. There were several times when I thought she was going to block the trade anyway. The 3/title deal is always a pain.

Yeah, but like, how did you even find out about the TIV at BBV? Like, I know of threads (like this) discussing BBV trade ins, but they are all from years ago. I guess you just asked? But did you ask for lots of stuff?

Good job but if I was you I would've converted all that Bestbuy credit to either Amazon or get the Visa pre-paid cards so you can have more flexibility and options as to where you can shop.

You take a prepaid visa card to the cash register and pay the cashier with a GC.

Yes that's what I did with it. But it's better to do when you sitting on alot of credit because of the $5.95 activation fee. But it sucks that I don't receive reward zone points for purchases with it like others have said they were able to get for using it.
FYI: Hunted TIV is $22 at BBV. Looks like I got to flip a brinks and hunted few.
Yeah, i wait until I can get a 200, but I've been buying a lot of them recently. It's nice to be able to "cash out" some of this credit on them by using them to pay bills/groceries/etc. I'm trying to get to the point where all the credit is "extra money" and that helps. Losing 3% when you buy the Visa (b/c of the activation fee) is usually fine, since the flips are usually for a lot more than 3%.

YOUR WELCOME FOR ME FINDING THAT OUT :)

If you saw my original post, then I built upon it and didn't repeat how I felt. The major games that have more than 1 on the shelf are free game to me (if it's a good game I try to leave 2).

Games Like FNV, STFU2, AC:B etc that have 50 of each at every store are fair game. Go nuts buying 50. And yes I completely agree that games like these are just shuffling them all around. In fact I think the next promo will be "buy anything in store and get A used FNV free". Heck all my local stores stock is still the sleeved "do not sell before" versions of NV with the merc packs.

Should be the same for 360 and ps3, but called about the 360 version.

you need a trade account to trade to bbv a trade and reg account

Asked a local BBV and they said that all BBV should now accept trade ins per dish network policies. Don't know if this is true and HB could probably clear that up.

But on a side note my local BBV (one I normally don't frequent) is running a trade in promo that when you trade in you get a free 1 night rental. Sweetens the pot just a tad.

don't know forgot they even did trades until last night lol

but yeah don't know the limits (have to ask hb for that ) but you need to just start an account with them to rent then they will ask if you want a trade account with them ..if they don't ask you tell them you want a trade account....as long as you don't owe any bbv money anyone can start a rent and trade account for free with just ID

Some insight from HB regarding what the limits are (and what he can see in his system for people) would be nice. I notice that the 1st post says that the BBV's cannot see what you've done at other BBV's and you have to have a different trade account at each BBV. If that is the case, that is nice and can work to flip more brink/hunted (presuming that the anti-flippers are ok with flipping these universally derided games to BBV).

Ok thanks. The lady signed me up for a reg account yesterday when I bought some games, she said it would make it easier for me to get them replace if there where any problems with them working...but BB has them now lol. Just I heading out now get a trade account.

like it has been said already you need a blockbuster account and then they can set it up as a trade acct. you'll need to show a license when setting up a trade acct. i think you can trade in 2 of the same game per platform but it just comes down to manager discretion. some might limit you at 1 other may let you do 2 or 3 so ymmv on that. you can only get store credit which can only be used in that store.

stores cannot see what you do from one store to the other so its best if you spread you trades of the same game to different stores if you have multiple stores in the area. you do need to set up a trade acct at each individual store which sometimes can be a pain since i bet half the stores dont know how to set one up.

if anyone still has giftcards there is finally a resolution to this situation. starting 9/12 anyone with a giftcard doesnt matter what amount is on there as long it has $.01 will get either 5 free rentals or 2 months of the online program 1 out at a time w/unlimited exchanges. so it will be beneficial to some but will screw others.

I went in today and saw the prices for both Dead Space 2 and NBA Jam were updated correctly, so I picked those up. Didn't see much else of interest so I left with just those.

The same guy that gave me the heads up about the sale was working today and he told me the sale ran through 9/12. I thought it went to 9/5? Anyway, he also told me there transferring schedule so I should come back and check on Sunday when they'll have new stuff. :D
I'm thinking of doing Blockbuster Game Pass for October so I can rented Rage, Batman, and Battlefield 3 to help save money.

How is it? I've used Gamefly and it's slow, plus every Tuesday my Blockbuster already has new games ready to go at 10am.

Is it a good deal for $22?
I would check into their online program information later this week (at least, in store). The managers should be getting more information about their "stick it to netflix" changes. In the past, the online program movie rentals would give a coupon w/ a surcharge for a monthly game rental... but they should be moving to allowing 1-out-at-a-time (game and movie) both in store and online at the same time w/ unlimited exchanges for the same price/lower than the current price. The new introductory offer should be out soon, of course, you should still be able to cancel before the renewal date.

I wonder how true this is, since my Blockbuster swore that the sale started next week. This has got to be one of the worst executed sales by them in a long time. Not too upset as Im going out of town tomorrow & hitting a blockbuster I usually do business with.
Just curious as to the games theyre holding for me. If I come back next week & there is no sale I highly doubt they'll say my bad and give me the bogo.
This round though no really great drops & the games have pretty much stuck around from the last bogo. Plus like everyone else, the damn backlog.

Thanks for the all the info, just wanted to extend my range of flipping limit. Also are they able to view all of your trade history in the same store.

thanks for the heads up on this. I've had a giftcard with 10 bucks on it sitting for like 2 years waiting for some way to get used up. Will prolly opt for the free 2 months as long as that includes games just to try random shit out.

(sorry, not canceling my precious Netflix for BBV's version)

I went to 2 different stores bought
6 copies of stfu2
splatterhouse 360
007 bloodstone 360
blur ps3
ff13 ps3
enslaved 360
and bioshock 360
Great sale plan on keeping everything except the star wars only bought them to flip at bestbuy to make arkham city cheaper.
