Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

guides are back to regular price for now so it'll require a manual override for the 75% off. email told us to put them back to regular price and they'll let us know when to destroy them.

Are bbv trade in values good ?

in general not good. the max value on any game is $25 and we dont have any bonuses so more likely better off at bb or gs.

fyi if you preorder and pay in full either COD3, battlefield 3 or batman you get a free combo pass for a month.

I'm still not sure why you'd want to trade at BBV at this point. Isn't the credit tied to one store now? I would find that not so useful.

Also, hawaiiboy, is that gift card redemption thing still going on? I kind of forgot about that and it isn't mentioned at all in my store and I have yet to see anyone here talk about getting the free rentals from an old gift card. Anyone do it?

I just have a feeling I'll get blank stares if I ask the people at my local BBV about it, so a little more info on it would be helpful.

I redeemed 3 old cards just yesterday for 15 free rentals (including games apparently)

I spent another $120 + tax this week on blu-rays spread across 3 different BBVs. I used cash at all of them. I should have traded in stuff at these three stores instead.

I traded a couple in at different stores to get the $7.50 pass. After that I have $10-$15 left that I'll just sit on until a b1g1 sale or a good flip from BBV. Never hurts to have some credit at different stores.

I'm doing it now, the customer service people it would 2-3 weeks for the 2 trial to kick in but you can send them up to 5 gift cards for 10 months worth of BBOnline.
 
Another bLockbuster near me is closing in October, and apparantly they arent going to clearance anything out..just shipping to other stores. :(

I bought a second copy of Hunted for PS3(@Gamer $20 off coupon that expires tomorrow at end of biz) today from BB for the sole purpose of trading it into BBV for $19 so I can grab a game or two to maybe trade back to BB.:razz:

The vicious cycle continues.;)

There is a goodie available for 3 platforms, and I need to do that tomorrow. I can almost cover a Batman Arkham City Collector's Edition on Amazon with 2 copies for each of the systems doing the Hunted swap ;)

How are you people able to get so many copies of these Best Buy coupon games? I was able to get ONE single 360 copy which I traded to Amazon. They wouldn't let me get more than 1 or a PS3 version even.

While I was waiting for my magazines to start arriving from my subscription I took my receipt into BB to show them I had subscribed and they let me scan an in-store copy to get one copy of Hunted.;)

Okay, how should we go about trying this? I get the feeling that they will automatically deny me when they see the card has movies only on it.

I know they have one at X-Mas. I thought I remember someone saying they had one at Thanksgiving as well.

And the last two B1G1 sales were pretty close together, thus why SWFU2 held up in value...

Well I usually have to eat one every now and then. But sometimes I can sneak by not having to buy the magazine and sometimes they let me use it twice. It depends on the awesomeness of the associate. They know I buy a ton of stuff so they're cool with it. Plus they had a ton of the games.

I don't mind eating it 3 times for this deal though. I would gladly pay 3 * $15 to get 6 games from BBV that I can trade in for $92 at Amazon.

There was one for most of December last year. According to my receipts, it ran at least from Dec. 7th until Jan. 3rd. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it started on the 7th since I usually hit these sales day one and that is the first receipt in my stack (all stapled together) from that particular sale.

There was not one on Thanksgiving - but it started not too long afterwards.

I'm hoping it holds until tomorrow. I have a copy to trade in but the store I already have credit at is about 20 minutes away and I'll be right by there tomorrow.

EDIT: It held up. Traded in Hunter on PS3 for $19 today. Picked up 5 blus.

That's why I didn't want to wait. But the thing that really bugs me is how Dish Network is just shuttering stores w/o liquidation sales now. So I'm more afraid to lose the $19 in cred rather than the value dropping.

I thought BB was getting rid of all gaming guides? I went into mine earlier and they had a few GoW 3, Pokemon, and a couple 2011 Codes books all marked (and scanned) at full price.
 
So I just got the Combo pass. I have a question, maybe some of you can answer, otherwise I'll ask when I return my movie tomorrow morning. It says that you get one by-mail rental per month. Does this interfere with your instore rentals? Meaning can I rent a game (by mail) and keep it for the whole month, while still using my combo pass in store for other games and movies?

it does not interfere with your instore pass so yes you can keep the game for a month if you want which makes sense since you only get 1 movie/game per month as long as you have the in-store pass.
