Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
everything IATCG posted is pretty much correct. to fill in the blanks a little more here are a few more details. nov 18-20 all stores are running what they call an "open house."
stores will have their own theme but all the sales will be the same.

all $.99 rentals will be $.49 every friday til the end of the year. we'll be having some kind of promotion with coke and popcornopolis.

sat the 19th at 3pm is when the COD3 tournament begins for each store. winner gets 6 month combo pass and runner up gets a 3 month pass.

our store also coverted over 50 rentals to used and they were all older titles that will be either $9.99 or $14.99.

we still dont have a definitive date on when this starts or all the details but it has got to be next week sometime to kick off the open house weekend.

you can mix and match ANY previewed movie or preplayed game to get the 3 for $19.99 or 5 for $29.99 as long as they are $14.99 or lower.

there is gonna be a deal for new retail movies but it hasnt been finalized yet. its probably gonna be any $14.99 and under title will be 3 for $24.99 and 5 for $39.99 or something similar to that.

and finally price drops this week effective 11/7 all titles listed are dropping to $14.99
I dont see Dead Space 2 on the :ps3: list but it will probably get marked down. Let us hope that selection/stock is good.
it was confirmed on this page as dropped.

Welp, I'll get DA2 and DS2 if I can find three other games I guess.
Looks like a good deal for games (not if you get 5 movies though).

Not to cause a panic, but Blockbuster searches on Google Shopping appears to be working again. This might be a good time to set up your game plans.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Never done this before. How exactly do we search for games at blockbuster using google shopping?
Sorry if this is a dumb question. Never done this before. How exactly do we search for games at blockbuster using google shopping?
1. Get to google shopping
2. type in name of game + blockbuster
2.5 Example: dead space blockbuster
3. Hit search
4. click 'in stock nearby'
5. Scroll down to find what you are looking for
6. Click the "x nearby stores Limited Stock" blue link
7. Look at list of nearby stores with said game
8. ?????????
9. Have game in possession

Nice. Thanks for this! Better safe than sorry..

Still nothing on when the sale will start huh? Almost hoping it isn't next week now since BBV and last minute sales sound like a bad mix... Hawaiiboy, do your managers know the physical stress all this anxiety and anticipation is causing on probably thousands of CAG's right now? lol

Well it's definitely gonna be next week some time but just a matter of what day will it start. Friday will be the latest it will start since that's the beginning of the open house.

Interesting. I'm actually going to buy 1 or 2 games either tonight or tomorrow so this is not good timing lol! But 5 games for 30$ I can't pass that up. Let us know when you hear the exact date.

Also, will all BBV employees be aware of the deal? Or will I have trouble if I walk in there and grab 5 games expecting to only pay 30$? I've had iffy little situations in the past where the employees have no idea their own sale is going on.

Same here. It's the good ol kmart syndrome where the customer (aka cag) knows more about the deals than the stores own employes. I hate it when you try to explain what's going on and they just stare at you and say "wah ?" Sigh

I've had days back during the BOGO sales where I've walked in and asked them if their "Buy 1 get 1 free on video games sale" is still going on and had a blank-faced employee go "yeah, if you rent a game you can get a free rental with it. #-o and after politely correcting them and saying I was looking to BUY the games they've just stared for a while, and then repeated themselves again.

Not good having a customer ready to pay for something walk out of your store empty handed, know what I mean? :???:

But assuming I don't get any trouble this time around, it should be a really great sale. Here's hoping.

Awesome, thanks for posting this!!! :applause:
Hawaiiboy, what about Castlevania LOS or Killzone 3, either platform? Are they $15 yet?
Just so HB doesn't get hammered with requests, the prices have updated on google shopping as well. Every game he has mentioned has dropped to it's new price. You guys can check for yourselves.
Talked to my store manager, she says her store reopening is next weekend. wee.
That's awsome. I wish more would reopen around my area as there are only 2 blockbuster in Manhattan ! Good thing the one near my home has some nice treasure As I have planed out an epic haul than I'm going to get during that sale :)

no no, this one has always been opened, I meant the reopening sale.

Oh my bad lol. Man I can't wait for this thing to start. I'll be out side my blockbuster 5 minutes before they open

I've called all of my local blockbuster stores (in Hawaii) and they have all said they don't do game trades. Is it only certain stores that do it?
Still nothing on when the sale will start huh? Almost hoping it isn't next week now since BBV and last minute sales sound like a bad mix...
To me that's a good thing, since hopefully my competition I've had the last 2-3 BOGO sales won't be expecting a random start date and I'll be able to hit up my 2-4 remaining BBV stores BEFORE they can rape, loot, pillage and plunder them all. Hopefully that'll give me enough time to get to them all
to rape, loot, pillage and plunder them myself for games for the backlog AND for profit;)
.

Between the people from outta state(which is what annoys me most) to the local game store/flea market resellers to the fellow flippers it's gotten quite difficult to get any semblance of a good haul from BBV the last couple of sales.

IATCG you're in my area right? lol I promise I'm not doing any raping or pillaging I'm just gonna pick up 5 decent 360 games to add to my winter playlist. I'm not out for any flipping. You better not get carried away during the sale or I will hunt ya down :twoguns: lol

HB made me drool.... 5 for $30? Morons in Norman/Moore, OK are never aware of these deals. I will make sure to get in on them first!

EDIT: I have heard from a store employee here in the OK Buster's that the sale should start by next week!
Well it's definitely gonna be next week some time but just a matter of what day will it start. Friday will be the latest it will start since that's the beginning of the open house.
Just saw this! If what I ws told is correct, the sale will start friday for open house.

Lots of new (and old) titles in stock at my BBV. Pretty excited. The employee mentioned the open house thing that startes on the 19th, but he also said the games/bd sale may start this Tuesday. I'll stop by my BBV at 10am to check.
Hmm, 3 for $20 is good and all but it's not as good as B1G1 free. Wonder if there will be one after this sale.
Depends on what you're looking for. If you only want two games, b1g1 on 14.99 games (aka 7.50 each) might be better just so you don't have something extra lying around and recently you could use a higher priced item matched with a lower price one which could help with lack of inventory issues. 3 for $20 however is 6.66 each which is definitely a bit better from a pure cost per game. And of course 5 for $30 is dope on a rope.

The four or so remaining stores in my area have been picked pretty clean and seem to very rarely get a refresh so I'm not hopeful of a big haul, but I may do a bit of recon in the next couple days anyhow just in case.

Trying to decide if it's worth the effort of educating/ arguing with the geniuses at my local stores. I'm pretty sure that they must sleep through calls with their district manager, and if they get any emails they delete them unread.

You're joking.. right..? 2 15$ games for 7.50 each, or 3 games at 6.66 each. Hmm.. tough choice. Oh! But you can add another 2 in the mix for 10 more dollars. Meaning you'll basically be buying 15$ games at 6 bucks a piece. I'd take this over BOGO anyday.

The problem for some is that they have trouble finding even two $14.99 games at a single store during the BOGO sale. Finding 3 or more can be an insurmountable task.

Hopefully my only problem will be finding three titles I don't already have in my backlog (I'm only an opportunistic flipper).

Yea you're right. I was tripping and thought it was 3 for $30

I was looking to pick up bioshock 1 and 2, both $10 games making a BOGO more profitable. Though this sale can be good too if you want $15 games

Yeah I guess you're right.. I'm hoping my local BBV restocked their used games shelves for this thing.

went to this one store about 10 miles away, probably had about 20 copies of Bulletstorm

although I did find Fire Emblem for the wii, disc is scratched quite a bit but for $10 I'll take it :D
I already know what 5 games I'm getting.
Same here, just hoping it starts early in the week. Preferably Tuesday.
