Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

no price drops this week. signs point to a friday start BUT no hard confirmation on that. monday will be the earliest if there is any new info.
 
If it starts Tuesday then I better get my ass up early cuz I'll likely be going outta town for work and not getting back till 8-9pm. By then the other people who I usually see for these sales will have cleaned anything decent out.:cry:
 
Google shopping working fine for me, too. Hopefully, these games are still in stock when the sale starts, but it's looking pretty good. Very optimistic for an awesome sale!
 
Are the TIVs for Brink and NBA 2K11 still $17 at Blockbuster? Any other potential games to trade in there for credit to use on the upcoming sale?

Don't rely too much on Google shopping...what you see online and what you see in the store are two very, very different things. #disconly #sorrysircantseemtofindthatone #crushingdisappointment
 
Will this include the newer used blus released like Harry Potter DH2 and Horrible Bosses? They're $12.99 but not sure if they'd be excluded since they're so new.

Oh, totally, but there are about 6 stores within 20 minutes of me and most of them have the games I want in stock in some kind of condition. Feeling pretty good about it!

This is an absolute fabrication, at least in regards to where I reside. Both for Sears and Blockbuster it has been 100% accurate for me.

He mostly mean the condition of the stuff, which is true to an extent. Yeah, GS will tell you if it's there, but the condition isn't guaranteed.

I'm thrilled for you that you have 100% accuracy where you are. It is not the case at some local Blockbusters I have been to. I had an employee rifle through every single game in the drawer looking for a copy of Uncharted 2 that showed up on google. I did not leave the store that day as a proud owner of Uncharted 2.

It is not 100% accurate. A lot of things are assumed by default. Like if the sale happens prior to you getting there, it will still be listed for at least a day. Then you got to put in a margin of error for theft, hiding, not on sales floor, etc.

No. Pirates, horrible bosses, crazy stupid love, Harry potter and green lantern are not supposed to part of any deal. Stores are supposed to post a sign stating this but as usual I'm sure there are many uninformed stores so you might be able to get them in the deal.
 
So what are the games people are hoping to get that are not listed in Hawaiiboy's latest price drop sheet? I'm tryin to get a good idea of what I want to reasonably look out for. Thanks!

I've seen a few copies of Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Modnation Racers, and SSFIV that have popped up since the last sale. Hoping to score at least a couple of those along with the (seemingly) readily available copies of Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, Shift 2, and Bulletstorm.
 
Yeah, I saw this at my BBV. They had Harry Potter 7 part 1, Pirates on Stranger Tides and Green Hornet on sale for $9.99, and the employee said they were part of the ongoing 5 for $20 sale.

I was thinking bulletstorm and dead space 2, unsure of the third.. I havent playd dead space 1 yet, would probably get that if they had it.

Hrm hawaiiboy would it be possible to get a list of all $15 games? Would love you forever

I think most of them are in the OP, though it'll be hard to find many of those games nowadays.

Test Drive Unlimited II
Spiderman Shattered Dimensions
WWE SD vs RAW 2011

and the fifth game I'm not really sure of. I might get Fable III if they have a copy or maybe NFS Shift II. I'll see what happens once I get to the store. I just hope there are plenty of copies on the shelves. It would be pretty bad if an amazing deal like this went live and there was nothing there worth grabbing.
 
Hawaiiboy, does BBV ever have an issue with trading in multiples of the same game? Im not talking crazy amounts or anything, just 2-3 tops of the same game (maybe different platforms). Just wanting to swap out some credit at BBY to BBV to get some games from this sale...and if I can do it without paying money out of pocket I'd be a happy camper.

Depends on the store manager. Most employees don't care and would ring you up. But the store manager would sometimes not allowed it, especially if they have a few of that game already.

What what what? I'm confused as hell. Hawaiiboy hasn't said anything about blu-ray price drops for a while.

Sorry in advance that this isn't a part of the videogame discussion, but if a store only has 2 games I want or 4 games I want, you can damn well bet I'm using a blu-ray to get in on the sale. It's CAG science.
 
Well I'm going to assume the sale doesn't start tomorrow, I can live with Friday as I don't work till 11:30 on Friday and would have time to hit at least one store for sure (hopefully 2). Tuesday would be great (assuming I don't ultimately come to the conclusion that my car is horribly screwed up tomorrow).
 
Yeah it's weird - no drops reported by HB. But, right on the front counter at my BBV were those blu rays at $9.99 a piece!

The trade agreement says 2 of the same title per day, but yea, its definitely based on the store manager.

The manager at the store by me used to let me trade in all the copies I want. I think he regretted it when he ended up with 10 copies of Eye of Judgement and 13 Fatal Inertias that sat there forever.

Lol yea, this manager was okay with me trading 4 brink or "brick" as she calls it. But now ots just sitting there, so she denies multiples now.
 
lol, is this the sale I actually keep New Vegas if I buy some games? I think the trade in value has dropped enough that it might be worth actually keeping and playing this time.
 
I noticed some stealth price drops that hb didn't report. some blu rays droped and Metro 2033 went down to 14.99. Are stores preparing for that sale ?

If my store doesn't stock a title it's not gonna show up on any price drop report.

As far as pirates horrible bosses, crazy stupid love, Harry potter and green lantern those are all Warner brothers titles that as you may or may not know does not supply rentals for Bbv right now. They want us to abide by the same 28 window that redbox and Netflix has Bbv won't agree to that so we are going out and buying copies and using them as rentals. Then for whatever reason within a couple days we transfer to previewed some copies but they are not supposed to be part of any previewed sales.
I know pirates is disney but they only released it on blu ray so that's why we went and bought combo packs so our customers could rent the DVD version.

Hangover 2 is gonna be the next title we do that to.

You know, you could've just tried reading/skimming back a few pages, since it's been mentioned for the last week or so now.:razz: All of the info on deals is not always in the OP of a thread and actually many people don't even bother reading that since it's easier(lazier) to just ask what the current deals are repeatedly.

So good for you for actually admitting to reading the OP of a thread.

I'm going to come to his defense for one reason. I recently (about two weeks ago) jumped back into following the Kmart thread. Have you guys noticed that you have to read at least 5 pages or so back to find anything pertinent discussion related to the topics in the op. It's page after page of people asking questions that were clarified in a single post or two (assuming that there was some issue why the op was off/ambiguous - see MW3 live card issue from last week).

Anyway, the point is that in some cases (albeit not this thread) it is a bit difficult to find the info you're looking for because it was surrounded by nonsense.

Ha! No problem. Hope I didnt come off as being an ass, was being overly sarcastic. Hard to convey tone through words on a forum. Just scouted out my BBV (and traded in some games to build credit for the sale) and I must say...this is gonna be amazing!
